Actually, they wouldn't "have to show her to the public". The "perp-walk" isn't a legal requirement. It's something that is often done to show the public "Hey, look! We caught the bastards". These cases really test my belief that " innocent until proven guilty" means a person should get bail. I had a friend who spent nine month in jail waiting for trial because he did not have bail money. He did 9 months then the charges were dropped.

It doesn't take the judges so long. It's just the process that happens in such a serious case. Both sides will have many pre-trial motions and such that will take a lot of time. Also you have to remember that here in New York and the rest of the US in general, we are still coping with the Covid pandemic. Courts are actually still closed at the moment. No trials are happening right now.
