    its always been my own personal head canon that when sigmar went east, maybe he united the kingdoms, of ind, cathay and nippon, separately, becoming known by many different names, as a unifier and a saviour to each nation, and establishing a different cult in each of the nations, adding more human worship to his immense power, and that would also explain why he is called the patron god of humanity, however after receiving so much worship his physical form left him, and allowed his ascension to godhood

  • @8AFM4

    I am actually really starting to like the way the lore is going. The old lore was much more of a "traditional" style of fantasy with dragons, wizards, castles, witches and elves which is fine, but you see a lot of it. The new lore is much more like that of Greek mythology, where the gods are active in the world of humans and humans have a roll in how the gods run the universe. Also in Greek mythology there was always a sense of ambiguity of where the human world ended and the realm of the Gods started. I think this route is a fresh look at fantasy as it is not very common in todays literature.

      Sadly age of sigmar really did loss a lot of the human aspect of of the lore, the struggle of a single human that has to take on waves of horrors from another dimension, the fail of a culture in to depravity with the dark elves and their subsequent love for torture and slavery and how no single race is ever 'good.' I could go on, but all I really have to say is age of sigmar just feels like gw saw how well 40k is doing and decided to copy that. it feels to PG and cartoony in nature.

      Try reading the lore on flesh eater courts or order serpentis. Or the Idoneth Deepkin, good God were they dealt a bad hand in their existence. Or the almost pragmatic nihilism behind the ideology of the Kharadron Overlords to completely disregard the gods in a universe where the pantheon holds such power in things. Cartoony and PG doesn't quite the mark as sure as you'd think.

    • @EbonFang_92
      @EbonFang_92 5 лет назад +1

      From what I can gather, the realms are not universes but worlds, because in many cases you can see the realm of shadow and the realm of light from the other realms

    • @chinoschmino9108
      @chinoschmino9108 4 года назад

      So there are two eras: the world of Warhammer fantasy, and the Warhammer world after the End Times. The End Times was the apocalypse/ragnarok of the Warhammer Old World where nearly every iconic character died. Chaos conquered the world, and essentially blew up the planet. Everyone was dead, the Elves were devoured by Slaanesh, the Humans and Dwarfs laid to ruin, and the Lizardmen fled in their spaceships constructed by the Old Ones. The world then blew up. Now this is where the Realms come in. There were 9 Lores of Magic (the different kinds of magic), and out of this ruined world, 9 different planes of existence manifested from these 9 Lores of Magic, and these realms resembled the Lore of Magic they manifested from. High Magic created the Realm of Heaven, Life Magic created a hippie garden, etc etc.

    Great video :) I have a question; The Chaos Gods all want a specific realm for their own; Khorne wants the realm of fire, Nurgle the realm of life etc. Hypothetically, which realm do you think Slaanesh (if they hadn't been captured and gone missing) would particularly want? Would love to see a lore video on the Hosts of Slaanesh; I think it's interesting that they seem to lose even when they win (conquered 7 realms, lost their god). Love the format of the vids, keep it up!

    • @2Tough
      @2Tough  6 лет назад +2

      Thats a really interesting question and one I never thought of! off the top of my head.... I dunno, maybe Heavens? (Azyr). the otehrs either want a realm that matches them (like khorne and fire) or is their polar opposite (Nurgle's entropy and the realm of life). Maybe the purity of the heavens is a good counter to the dark deeds and desires of Slaanesh? But Im just making that up with no evidence lol. A for lore on Slaanesh, the second they release a book about him/her, I'll be posting it. I'm waiting with baited breathe to see what comes!

    • @hughwhite3273
      @hughwhite3273 6 лет назад +5

      I was considering it; given Slaanesh is about excess, with any reason or logic to it, while Hysh (Realm of Light) is a realm of reason and symmetry. I can see Slaanesh wanting to tear it down for fun. Plus the aelves are there and Slaanesh enjoys the taste of aelf souls :) Yeah the followers of Slaanesh are mixed; there are those who want to find them, those who want to replace them, and those that just don't care (devoted followers, those who want to be a god, and those who are utter nihilists). Seems interesting given that excess is what defeated Slaanesh

  • @danielmorgan5949

    When Games Workshop brings back the Old World, I hope that they make it follow a separate timeline from Age of Sigmar. Perhaps a time split within the Warp resulted in very different outcome to the End Times, a timeline where the world doesn't blow up. That way both timelines can be considered canon and people who enjoy Age of Sigmar can continue to do so and people like myself who prefer the Old World can enjoy the new alternate reality where the Warhammer World wasn't blown up.

    Nice lore vid and I appreciate the effort and work put in. There are just several mistakes and half truths that pop up that bother me, especially when making a lore vid.
    At several points you refer to Sigmar uniting the whole of Mankind which is false. He united the tribes of men that lived where the Empire ended up being. In addition to the Brettonians there where entire nations of men at other parts of the world, with Cathay (China allegory) being hinted as even larger then the Empire. There was also Ind and Nippon and Araby ect.
    Will probably add more points later due to lack of time.

    • @Entaros123
      @Entaros123 6 лет назад

      Also you stated that Sigmar wasn't really present as a god until the End times which is not correct.
      Firstly he did provide divine protection, power and spells to his followers exactly as the other gods did and secondly he had an Avatar by the name of Valten in the Storm That Never Was. Although the second point might be moot due to GW retconning it in a very lame way later. Really made me think less of them as a compeny at the time.
      But the point is that Sigmar was there and was felt for hundreds of years since his ascension.

    • @2Tough
      @2Tough  6 лет назад +2

      Hey Entaros123, Your right on several of those points. TO be perfectly transparent: I scanned the Warhammer fantasy wiki page to get notes on the Old World. How does the emperor of mankind, sigmar the mad primarch and Karl Franz all relate to each other

    • @InquisitorThomas
      @InquisitorThomas 4 года назад +1

      The Emperor of Mankind doesn't relate to Sigmar unless you're very loose with the definition of relate.
      Basically Warhammer Fantasy was the 1st Warhammer IP, than 40K came out as a sci-fi spin off Warhammer, so a lot of the factions had parallels: Empire = Imperium, Elves = Eldar, Dwarves = Squats. Based on a quirk of the rules systems you could have a game between a Warhammer Fantasy Army and a 40K army, and some old Lore implied it might be possible for a character to travel too and from the Warhammer Fantasy universe to the 40K universe, but as the series solidified as their own unique things the similarities and potential world hoping implications were dropped in later lore, but some fan theories still insist Sigmar is a Lost Primarch. As for how Sigmar and Karl Franz are related: Sigmar was the first emperor and Franz was the Last, as far as I'm aware Franz isn't actually related to Sigmar.

    Really enjoying the thoroughness of your lore videos! Is there anywhere that one can find a list of characters who 'survived' the End Times, people who's stories continue into the Age of Sigmar? Like Sigmar himself, Nagash, Archaon and even other minor characters? I'm interested in looking back to their stories from the Old World.

    I am really heavy in to the novels. The only lore I am not at all familiar with right now is AoS. That said regarding and of the lore for 40k WFB or AoS, can you get the lore without buying the rule books? I dont play the tabletop current but would love access to the lore part of any of those books for any, I guess for lack of bettee words, universes. I Know WFB is a different story but Id still love to read more of the lore from those if its possible.
    Thanks!

    What about Grimnir and the fyreslayers ? Isn’t the same as the stormcasts imbued with their god’s power ? Just wondering your point of view.

    You can thank Total War for my views. While I prefer fantasy lore I wanted to see what changed. The whole multi dimension world hopping war always was offputting.

    It might be worth it to pick up Archaon and dump him alone into a legion of stormcast. Even at really high energy costs.

    Sigmar is actually an ancient Frankish name that means something like "famous by victory". There were actual Frankish people named Sigmar.

    At 21:00 you spoke about Sigmar putting a piece of himself into each of his soldiers, would Grimmnir be doing the same with the fyreslayers just not contentious of it?

      they put it in by themselfes, so I don't actually think that Grimnir planned that. They do it to have him close and to collect him, if my memories are correct

      Hey Nicolas! Not really. GW owns two different properties: 40k (sci-fi) and Age of Sigmar (Fantasy). THe only real cross is that they directly ported over the chaos daemons (they are pretty much the same in both universes) :)

    is this just like a PC G rated warhammer vs 40k? why does everyone look like Dante from the blood angels? where is the Emperor of man throughout this? why does this exist? why is their boob armor? are the female warriors generically engineered to be strong enough to matter in battle? ;)
