- NYC handball legend and perennial top 3 finisher Tywan "The Golden Child" Cook shares his thoughts on what he sees today in the culture of NYC Handball. Tywan expounds about character, mentorship as well as his mindset.
There was I time in my life where I was really serious about handball and I had a serious game. I could have become an A player as I was coming up with people like David Rojas, Rookie, Cricket, Emmitt and more. What was more important to me however was building a solid future for myself and financial security. iI was great to see the guys I was playing wiith excel in the sport but none of those people have what I have. I own a very successful business, I own homes in 3 different countries and I am always working to further secure my future for myself and my family. Handball could never have done any of that for me so I had to leave it alone.
This comment just to boost your ego? Smh...
Philosophy and Psychology of handball. Tywan is great player with his unique game style and being humble in game.
The sportsmanship and the humbleness to the sport is whats gonna propel this game. Having cocky players think they own the whole world because the world of handball is still tiny is a repellant for new players. When someone young fresh in highschool wants to get into the sport, they often run into "OG" players just trying to make them look stupid. You got B players playing in C tournys and A players playing in B tournys. Tywan needs to spread his influence a little more in the sport.
Thorough & straight to the point. Brother Tywan covering all the crevices and angles. That's a valuable instructor!!.. Peace and blessings!!!.
There was a guy name Carlos from the Bushwich projects back in the mid 70s that was unmatched. He in my opinion was the Michael Jordan of handball. Would love to know what he's doing now or if he even plays anymore.
One of the greats no doubt.
Tywan hits ball: AAAAAAAAAAAIIIYHHH !!!
I have been watching Tywan play just recently and being an OG handballer ( 58 years young ), I have much respect for him. He's definitely a great player, but what exceeds his playing skills is his humbleness, and intelligent. This is definitely an intelligent individual, and he would make a great handball trainer. One could learn a lot from him. If I'm ever in New York while I'm still able to play, I would love to play him and or have him as a doubles partner. Note: don't get it twisted because of my age. It doesn't show physically or while exercising
Tywan, is a good player, check out the court skills on RUclips, definitely an "A" player
The 80s and 90s generation really played handball as a get away ... so u ultimately build a passion for the game ... especially when u begin to win games and how handball can take ur worst moods and turn it into a smile .... now aways there is too much going on ; different opportunities. Where as handball doesn't have the same value as before because of the time that is demanded to b the next Rockie .
Once it can b an official Olympic sport ... then it will give a people something to chase after .
I don’t doubt that level of competition in handball over the years has diminished but also different eras and different times as he said. Today, we have more jobs, increase in prices. So it’s a matter of people needing to keep up with the times now. They need to build a career rather than a job. Because the one downside to handball is there is no monetary value. There’s no sponsor. There’s no coverage. Tell me the #1 player in handball whose doing well for himself
These guys should be making $. I would pay for a consultation, whatever...
Just play ball bro, thats why the walls there, the WALL defines us
JESUS CHRIST IS COMING BACK PEOPLE REPENT OF YOUR SINS AND ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR TODAY NOT TOMORROW PEOPLE WHICH IS PROMISED TO NOONE ON THIS EARTH AT ALL
