      @paulitakiefer5632 no, it was stolen. People are still trying to find it. The Russians replaced everything, a replica room.

    Hildebrand's collection needs to be checked very carefully some of the pieces may have been bought, it appears the government just went in and blanketed the entire collection, remember these works are handed down from his father in the same way so many old masters have entered a family collection through the ages

    Germany must be brimming with hidden gems from small boxes of medals hidden in fields, cash tins, weapons, scientific works, all the way to art, gold bars and gems... How fantastic to search for these items and bring history to light

    Why are the works of the African continent which was stolen so many years ago and still is stolen to this day, not so quickly returned to their rightfull owners , like the Benin Bronze Sculptures?. It's time to return to Mother Africa her treasures.

    • @DorianRedGloria
      @DorianRedGloria 3 месяца назад +2

      In general I agree. However, in one of the other episodes of this series they show pieces of art from WWII that are also still in “restitution limbo”, where it is unclear where or to whom they belong until somebody can prove they are the rightful owner… and I assume that this applies to a lot of African art as well, where it can be even harder to prove ownership and where it might be even more unclear if the pieces were freely given, sold/bought (sometimes with multiple owners) or stolen and paperwork in those cases takes a while. As for your Benin sculptures, you’re talking about a couple of thousand pieces with a variety of owners, which to me sounds like a paperwork nightmare, which unfortunately takes a while to resolve.

      They'd never make it. There is no system of checks and balances. The statue would be sold by some official and the money pocketed.

    Instead of accusing them, Western historians should thank the Germans for saving these gems. The way the buildings to smithreens, all these would have been destroyed! All this is so cynical of the historians.

    So i come from new zealand, some of my ancestors luck charms, or art work. Was stolen in the 1800's by the french, german and English. They are being held in there museums. So my question is are these countries certified thieves. Are Polynesian people allowed the same rights as Jewish people. I say this because the English tried to wipe out the Maori. No one cried for us or the many other tribal communities around the world
