My local thrift store had an integrated stereo for sale. Tuner, amplifier, turntable and 8 track for $100. Definitely way overpriced. Not a wasted trip as I found a vinyl copy of The Guess Who American woman. Jacket was rough but the vinyl is in good condition.Happy for you that you got yours repaired.
Give the "line in attenuation" switch a wiggle to get rid of any dust build up on the switch contacts. This switch is if the output from say a record player or cd player overdrives the unit, if it does and it sounds distorted then put the switch on high (h).
I bought a Pioneer 8-track player/recorder a few years ago from a local auction house and it wasn't cheap (I probably paid $50 to $60 for it, but they cost more than that on eBay), but it had loose wonky output jacks like the Superior 8-track player you demonstrated here with either a left channel or right channel issue or sound fading in and out, so perhaps tightening those RCA jacks at the back like you did will improve the sound somewhat. It's worth a try for sure. Prior to that Pioneer purchase, I bought an excellent Sanyo 8-track player/recorder fairly affordably from an eBay seller and it still works perfectly. In fact, I was playing a 'Beatles Love Ballads' 8-track tape and I was stunned by how incredible it sounded (when 8-track tapes were always a bit dubious or problematic with rotting pads, rotting glue holding the tiny metal strip that attaches to the tape loop inside causing the tape to snap, etc. compared to much more reliable compact cassette tapes). Anyway, when they work, they can sound great. :)
Never seen a 8 track player before .
Thats pretty cool piece of history 👌👌
I see a few then in one week get two with VU meters on that record, crazy ehh
Maybe clean the outside of the RCA jacks with isopropyl and the inside with a little contact cleaner. Might help. Glad it's working! Very cool.
I eventually did that Jason thanks, they was crusty on the outside
