Bill Bryson always reminds us that absolutely everything and anything is interesting depending on the way it as looked at. He has a gift in the way he explains the world and all our lives are richer for his combination of words. Wise man, brilliant raconteur. Thank you
I absotely love this man! I have read most of his books, and I have a lot of them. He writes in a way that sucks me in, inform me, and entertain me big time. Sometimes I laugh out loud (in every book). I insist on reading them in english, even me being danish. I don't want to miss a word in a poor translation.. I can't wait to read this new book from my favourite author of all times.
I sat on a coach from London to Manchester when Notes from a small island came out, a guy across from me was reading a book and laughing out loud all the journey, when we arrived in Manchester everyone gave him a nasty look, i noted the book he was reading and on the return journey a few days later I bought it, I spent the whole of the trip laughing out loudly, when i got off in London all the other passengers were glaring at me, funniest book i have ever read, from that day i have read everything Bill Bryson has done, American with a British sense of humour.
Bill, we miss you over the pond here! My motto for you is "without Bill there is no fun, and very little wisdom". Thank you for making life interesting and fun and more aware. We all love you here in Lewes, Delaware. Come visit sometime.
What a prolific writer is Bill Bryson. Without sensationalism, he brings facts from the depth and shares them in plain simple english. Salute to you Sir for sharing this video.
I just finished that book. It's explained really well. Bill Bryson is a really good writer with a great sense of humour. I read 'Notes from a Small Island' and from there I was hooked
I love audibles, and before this video i never saw how he looks like. Funny thing is that when i read his books I read them with the the voice of Richard Matthews and looking at him now my mind is trying to replace his voice with Richard’s voice. Great author 👍🏻
1:10 That what I've often thought, it's all so close to me (it is me at the end of the day) yet I know so little. It's funny during a biology test on the body that the answers are literally under your nose! His book (and other ones) are fantastically written, informative and sprawling yet warm, easy to understand and humourous
"I don't think the world has ever been as crazy and so unprepared for the future as it is right now...Look who's president of the United States of America...and...I don't I have to say anything more than that..."
LOL! When he's talking about how crazy the world is and then he said "look who is President of the United States right now? I don't think I need to say anything more"...I nearly lost a mouthful of food! BRILLIANT MAN! Thankfully the US is doing some serious cleaning up with our new President now! And our new Attorney General. Those of us who did NOT vote for the "former guy" and who spent 4 years is serious hell, agree wholeheartedly with Bryson!
I have almost finished this book and had to stop to write this or I would have put it away and not finished it. It is full of information some of which I have been suspect of but have no basis so have read on. Until I got to this "for every 400 middle-aged Americans who die each year "Just" 220 die in Australia"...That is such a skewed statistic especially considering the point he is trying to make regarding it. The population of America is over 327 million the population of Australia is under 25 million (Which is less than the state of California) that means 400 is 0.000001% of Americans and 220 is 0.000009% of Australians that's Nine times more percentage wise. This is just one of the many numbers where he Compares America to tiny Nations to try to make us look bad. Like comparing American car deaths to European countries which gets even more skewed. 273 million cars in America with $3 gas compared to 37 million in Italy with $6 gas, of course there's going to be a vast difference And that's a big European country carwise... I won't even get into the motivation behind this the Right people already know and the wrong don't.
I don't think he understands much of what he has written... he seems at a loss of words trying to explain these "facts" he's written, maybe cuz he's not a fucking scientist. he's just a guy writing about random things he's not even researched that much to make money. I mean, reading just the first chapter of The Body, he catches the readers attention by stating that when he was a kid, his teacher told him it would only cost $15 to build a human... but then writes later that it could actually cost anywhere from $16 to 60 to 300k... that its unsure... I was like okay??? why do you open your book like that then?? and then goes on to say that "cancer is extremely rare occurrence but it is the leading cause of death for people... 5 out of 6 smokers won't get lung cancer...people who are prime candidates for heart attacks won't get them"... like these statements are ridiculous without explaining them and he doesn't. i dunno something about this guy irks me, he's acts like a smug know it all, when in reality he doesn't actually know anything. he just tries to write interesting stuff, but his books are actually very confusing.. i have to google stuff every 2 minutes. OH and he said an asshole comment about people with acne, i don't remember it, but i remember reading it and thinking, wow what a jerk. AND ALL of this is only a couple pages in btw!!!!

I had a similar reaction to A Walk in the Woods - still my favourite of his books!

I read every book over and over again. (... and that as a Swiss, sorry)
Thank you so much Bill Bryson.

Plus things go in our eyes Upside down and our eyes turn it right side up !!!!!
Thanks, Bill, for warning me about the cutthroat, swashbuckling, backstabbing world of "Science." Saved me any surprise!
8:20 as an American I'm personally embarrassed on how that happened at all.
Came here to see if he had an accent, not disappointed
Same, same 😊
Probably no one will believe me but he is the grandpa of my friend Billy Bryson .
I believe you
1.2b books ≠ all films
Amazing
Bill Bryson’s accent sounds like a British person trying to do an American accent

Ignorant orange I guess!
Better than crooked Hilary.
