I can't quite manage to put my finger on the magic ingredient in these videos but somehow in less than 10 minutes Petrolicious seems to always capture and convey exactly what it is that makes these cars so special. Maybe it's the unique way that their format takes the car owner and transforms them into a host of sorts for the duration of the video. Without fail I always reach the end of these videos with a great deal of respect for these cars, even if I didn't think much of them before hand. Hard to believe the progress that's been made when you look back at RUclips videos from just 5 years ago and then compare it to the spectacular content being pushed out by channels such as this one. Keep it up Petrolicious! Nicely done.
Porsche 911. The absolute perfection of the auto world. Aircooled, updated, driven hard and loved bad. Shot in a Petrolicious film... my day can't get any better. Thank you!
The Growler was named by my good friend and fellow POC racer who shall for her sake remain nameless. Never the less, she named it after her own "Ujeeba" which has over time become quite good at warding off all the unwanted attention she gets at the race track... For me the double entendre is what makes the name awesome!
John Reinke morepassionfoo +John Reinke Glendora Mountain Road and Glendora Ridge Road... In my opinion they are two of the best roads in LA County... Agree as far as 911's go. A 964/933 air-cooled 911 are THE 911's to own if you can afford one (or two). The TRUE "pursuist's 911" not the recent "911 R". As far as naturally aspirated engines go I think the first gen Audi R8 is a modern classic. Not sure if that was air-cool too or liquid-cooled. But as far as V8's go...tough to beat. Loved the Ferrari 458 and the F12 TDF engines/sounds. :)
Amazing car. I get an urge to get a 964 and this video has me searching for days. Love the sound and glad your driving it as it should be driven. Keep enjoying it and never stop. Thumbs up!!
It's all about the emotions! I have a passion for old Mercedes cars. How these cars gives us deep emotions, it's not about how good or bad the car is. It's about how they makes us forget the world and feel that special feeling that nothing else can! These videos are amazing!
Edgar Diaz A considerably (bushy) hirsute lady area. Jeremy Clarkson and co. had a field day laughing about a car called the Growler on Top Gear one episode.
William Chemini There is an ongoing joke between my wife and I regarding the names given to my cars, they all infer extra marital affairs... The Growler is no exception...
"Racing is destruction, photography is the therapy"...fantastic video, great philosophical approach to cars passion!! The Growler has a mindblowing sound...I mean it sounds like the perfect thunders the fading foggy road requires!
Nice story. Nice exhaust note when lifting on throttle. Nice gear changes. It's also nice to see someone who knows how to engage in and appreciate the art of "motoring briskly". Very nice.
Alex I LOVE this video and this car. My only exception is what my old mechanic -- Otto -- used to say -- (prior to water cooling) every Porsche ever built is a race car. I think you (and I) are doing exactly what's INSIDE, not outside what the cars designed to do -- Keep the vids coming and hope to see you on a track or canyon sooner than later!!
That's one of the best sounding 911s I've ever heard. I love cars that look stock but in reality are much better than that. One reason why I love Singer 911s too.
to a Nor Cal dude seeing Fog on top of a hill + a windy road + a 1970s Porsche = his childhood....DAMN IT! When in the hell are we going to get a NORCAL car on Petro?!?
Great video as always but I don't understand why he needs to put 2k to 3k miles on a customers car just so he can get some photos of it. No way in hell would I let him put that many miles on my car (and he probably tries to drive it hard!). And why would he pick up groceries in a customers car? That is why you have your own car! I do love the look of his 964. The personally my favorite generation of 911.
Completely agree with you. To think that anyone would allow someone to put more than 100 miles to shoot a car is a joke. I bring him my 87 Slant Nose turbo with 5k miles, and ask him to take pics. I then let him drive it for months and puts on 3k miles..... then wants me to pay him for photos?!?! What a joke
ha ha mate..cool off a bit for god sake .... nothing wrong it's that in this world there are some people that enjoy lending something they own to another person so he can enjoy it.....that kind of person in serious danger of extinction are called "GENEROUS"...
Nothing like an air-cooled Porsche they say. Aside from being charismatic the engine was also very durable, reliable and smooth. With the 997 the air-cooled era finally came to a close after half a century. The people owning them are keeping the spirit alive. Kudos.
Sir, I believe you are very correct about racing/tracking your car. I have a (470 hp) 944 Turbo, a Twin Turbo RSR 964 (being built by Patrick Motorsports as I write this), and finally, a 2002 Trans AM GT1 Mustang. I purchased the Mustang specifically for racing and track events as this is what it was designed for. Although Porsche prides itself on building a street car one can drive to/on the track, it is necessarily a beautiful thing that deserves to be coddled and flogged--in that order. I would argue that flogging first and coddling/maintenance second falls to machines that meet the spec.
In some parts of the United States, a 'growler' means a type of giant beer/alcohol container. In other parts of the United States, it means a giant, unpleasant, difficult to pass poop you've just laid. In the UK, it means a big old hairy lady gash. In any case, it's not a great name for a car.
To Petrolicious: from 2007 to early 2010 i was privileged to live in southern California, being a motorcycle enthusiast i couldn't be on a better place in the world to enjoy the wonderful twisty roads socal has to offer, please don't miss understand my message but as there is a first time to everything, this is the very first Petrolicious video that i completely dislike to be honest it had me cringing the entire time, in my 3 years riding Azusa, GRR and the mighty GMR religiously, i have lost count of how many people i had met at the Mobil station who never reached the top of GMR or its bottom because of people like Alexander Bermudez making that mountain a race track, yes of course there is plenty of reckless unskilled riders (bike and bicycles) as well BUT in my PERSONAL experience i had encounter most of my near miss life threatening situations up there involving a 4 wheel vehicle driven by someone who thinks its good enough and its ok to push someone who talks and drives like Alexander did. Somehow i can't find the romance that this channel has for so long reflected in this particular video, if you are reading this Alexander, it is a matter of time until you clip that apex and in the other side of the corner there's someone on two wheels rather a motorcycle or a bicycle right in front of you only a matter of time when for just one time you run wide in the corner exit and there's someone right there, your portraiture of driving in this video is a fatality waiting to happen. sorry guys but thumbs down for this one.
Man I've got to agree with you I live in North Carolina . There is a place in Western North Carolina called The Tail of the Dragon. 318 Curves in 11 miles. I quit driving because of people doing exactly what you're talkin about crossing the yellow , clipping the Apex. somebody gets hurt or killed up there a lot. it's a very dangerous road one of the most dangerous roads in the eastern part of the country. you can't cross that line, when you do , your telling someone else to do it it's okay to do it. it ain't okay!!!
I would have thought they would have closed a section of road off for this video. If they haven't I totally agree with you. There are a lot of drivers on the road that have no regard for others.
Elbowz In 50+ years of driving on and off the track, building cars and bikes and as avid cyclists - cyclists and those under the age of 30 are by far the most self involved, selfish, self righteous and dangerous.
I’ve watched this video a number of times, the noise and stance of the 911 is spot on. I have 996 Carrera but unfortunately only slight resemblance to the Growler, but you have to have a dream
finally, someone who drives a Porsche, like it was meant to be driven.I had a 66 vw bug when I was a kid. the engine was a 1600 which had been bored. it had a tight gear box. the steering was unbelievable. I believe it was ball pinion? I have never felt steering like it in any car since. the car was very fun to drive. not the fastest, but it translated the feel of the road to my hands, in a positive way. I loved that car.your video reminded me of that car. how the air cooled engine changed you. I now want to find a older Porsche and rebuild it. I am almost positive I will get that "feeling" the bug gave me. thanks for sharing!
First time commenting on RUclips, but the sound of this car is just so amazing I had to. I would LOVE to build a car like this. Amazing work, both with the car and the photos.
Exactly! Who the hell is giving their car to this clown to drive for 2-3K miles?! All under the premise to take a damn picture?! I wouldn’t let him drive my car for 2-3 miles, let alone thousands.
Petrolicious - Your videos are consistently brilliant !!! There's so much heart and soul in the videos , the owners and most importantly the cars ! Please do a video with a race spec Ferrari Daytona in full race livery , love that car and it looks the bollocks !!!
Not a huge Porsche fan but this one looks and sounds amazing. So much better than the clinical cars Stuttgart usually produces, a car with heart and soul . Thumbs up to the owner , looks like he's having a blast on those roads :)
I am a musician, and have developed a very deep sense of appreciation for engine / exhaust notes. That vid featured some very, very memorable audio. There were clips from inside the car, from outside but ON the car, from the side of the road (coming and going), from up close...At 2:17 is my favorite very short clip, even with Mr Bermudez speaking, from the top of the bluff with the car down and away. The only ways for the sound of the car to reach the microphone is either by going out the exhaust (with the pitch flatter because of the Doppler effect) hitting one of the rocks lining the road once or twice, which isn't the best surface to reflect sound with all those plants muffling the higher frequencies, the zinging growl, metal on metal, but once in a while a flat rock surface a little behind bounces the whole thing. The other way is "through" the car, with the pitch sharper than it really is -- again, Doppler. The result is a chaotic mixture of the car sound, phased out, with sharper and flatter notes of the same exhaust at the same time, then only one of the two depending on the immediate environment where the car is traveling at that precise instant... most people listening would swear they can hear two cars... no. That sound, that mesmerizing duet, with the sharper revs almost always constant and with the ghostly image of itself seemingly at different revs, a little late, a little louder then silent, echoing late, than quieting down suddenly as the car passes in front of an open cliff... that sound is the sound of speed, harvested by a microphone positioned at the right place, at the right time. Thank you for the quality soundtracking.
I've seen this car many times in pasadena! I remember the first time I saw it a couple of months ago.. I had to go home right away but the moment I saw it I changed my mind. Parked my car, got a few shots and I don't regret it. By far one of my favorite 964s I've seen. Now I've seen of video of how it drives! Sounds amazing, and looks like it drives exceptionally well!
Thanks a lott!!! you have a lot of passion ..beautiful car and amazing road...Great video music, and road...Porsche are the best and great name as well The Growler....really nice lifestyle you have !!!! Congratulation
i absolutely LOVE your video watch it more times then i can count the passion in this is epic and most people don't understand but u my friend get it i love this video thank you for sharing your story & Porsche
Damn, brother, you know what you are talking about.I have a modified 1970 Beetle, but would love a Porsche some day...914 maybe.Keep up your amazing work and interests.btw,I was on the edge of my seat listening to the engine and tranny make that beautiful sound........
Tony Schnitzel Looks like Glendora Mountain Road aka GMR in Southern California. The part in the beginning without any lanes is the front side where a lot of people tend to crash. It's also a very popular bicyclist road so be careful if you head out there.
That's it. I'm going out for a drive.
Bruno Oliveira As you should!!! Enjoy!

***** What is your exhaust setup Alexander? My apologies if you've already answered this question.
There are many great cars with wonderful engine sounds, but none of them sound quite as good as an air cooled Porsche
A V-8 engine is also something... I love Porsches and they sound great. Inline six BMW 5 series(older ones ) are something to hear.
Ric White I agree, I have always admired the roar of a V8
Agree as far as 911's go. A 964/933 air-cooled 911 are THE 911's to own if you can afford one (or two). The TRUE "pursuist's 911" not the recent "911 R".

It sounds like power struggling to leave a box.
Gotta love the sound of an air cooled Porsche driven in anger.
Just super fantastic. The 964 is now getting its value that it deserves!
The background, the fog, his pictures. Everything in this video came out to a pure experience. Beautiful video. One of the best I have ever seen
I just wanted to say that, that's got to be one of THE most fantastic Porsche exhausts I've ever heard...
thanks for being my new favorite RUclips channel! such great cinematography and stories, done respectfully and yet detailed. intimate. love the vids!
Really liking that sound! makes me want one.

Lol growler he obviously doesn't go to England a lot 😂😂
Lmao please explain what the growler means across the pond.

Haha euphemisms from the UK are way better than the ones in the US.

"Racing is destruction, photography is the therapy"...fantastic video, great philosophical approach to cars passion!! The Growler has a mindblowing sound...I mean it sounds like the perfect thunders the fading foggy road requires!
I can honestly say this is the best sounding 911 I've heard.
That's a fine machine. I'd imagine someone seated by their window, up in those hills listening..."ah, there's The Growler"
My dad owns a 1992 964 cabriolet. To this day it is the best sounding car I've ever heard.
Nice story. Nice exhaust note when lifting on throttle. Nice gear changes. It's also nice to see someone who knows how to engage in and appreciate the art of "motoring briskly". Very nice.
+Manny Anthou Thanks!! The art of driving is a passion we both apparently appreciate!!
by far my favorite car / build
Oh wow.the sound and pace!
I love it.
Top Gear had quite a laugh with the E-Type 'Growler'... xD
This was the very first Petrolicious video I ever watched that made me a permanent fan of this channel :)
Alex I LOVE this video and this car. My only exception is what my old mechanic -- Otto -- used to say -- (prior to water cooling) every Porsche ever built is a race car. +bhop0073 They are a funny little cars but vary addictive!!
6 years and this video still kicks ass! Love it!
I have much love and respect for the 964, probably the most complete 911...(in my humble opinion)
to a Nor Cal dude seeing Fog on top of a hill + a windy road + a 1970s Porsche = his childhood....DAMN IT! When in the hell are we going to get a NORCAL car on Petro?!?
The 964 series cars are my favorite examples of the breed. As the owner said, it's a car that bridges between old and new.
Wow! This is the first time i see a Petrolicious guest drives a car like it is meant to be driven!
love the passion that comes through in these videos.
Great video as always but I don't understand why he needs to put 2k to 3k miles on a customers car just so he can get some photos of it. Top quality automotive photographer and owns an awesome air cooled 964
Nothing like an air-cooled Porsche they say. Aside from being charismatic the engine was also very durable, reliable and smooth. With the 997 the air-cooled era finally came to a close after half a century. The people owning them are keeping the spirit alive. Kudos.
James Shunt actually it ended with the 996 for the 911s
True. I meant the 993 model which came to an end in 97. The 993 model was presented in 1993. Hence my mistake. The 993 was the last air-cooled 911.
Nice. Roads look amazing! The car looks a hoot too, perfect.
Do you still refer to vaginas as big old gash still, like to peoples face? Just seems odd.
Aaron Snocker I still refer to vaginas as big old gash still only on the internet. Still.
Be still child. Stop
Aaron Snocker Don't get your growler in a twist.
Quiet gash
That noise is why the air cooled flat-six engines make the best soundtrack ever, just add a turbo for more pleasure.

The videos are getting better and better hands down my favorite style of shooting cars.
Awesome video. Your 964 looks perfect to drive & totally dialled in. 👍🏼
This was amazing.
What an amazing car/video/driving/road. Fuck im speechless
It's like a baby Nürburgring or something.
Mike Miller wtf
Put 3000 miles on a car in order to take a picture, sounds like an excuse to thrash someone else's car.
Heard that and was like aww hell nah
That's what I thought also!
yeah like no thanks.
Did he just say two or three thousand miles? WTF. I just dropped $4600 on a major scheduled service and tires. No way Jose.
Exactly! Who the hell is giving their car to this clown to drive for 2-3K miles?! All under the premise to take a damn picture?!

superb video, thanks!

Absolute joy and pleasure to both watch and hear this fine machine. I hope to see it someday in the flesh. Good job on the build sir.
Omg where is that road ?!
***** r u sure? It looks like clif and he had a calif plate
Tony Schnitzel Looks like Glendora Mountain Road aka GMR in Southern California. The part in the beginning without any lanes is the front side where a lot of people tend to crash. It's also a very popular bicyclist road so be careful if you head out there.
Brian Rosete Not sure where it is, but that's not GMR. Just a heads up.
Tony Schnitzel I'm guessing it's the old hiway that parallels hwy99 over the grapevine, on the south side of the hiway/mountain.
Well from what I know its GMR and possibly another road. Anyone could tell its Gmr from the view 3:00-3:15
Your videos and stories and awesome!
Another awesome video 👍🏾
MORE. PLEASE DONT END. NO. NO. NO. MORE!!
