    A comparison with last year’s BYU defense is irrelevant. Fewer injuries, more depth, and a new defensive coordinator make this a completely different BYU defense.

    Appreciate your show and analysis--thank you. Best wishes to K-State going forward; no doubt your team will shake it off. Avery Johnson looks like a great talent. Lifelong Ute fan here. So grateful to be in the Big 12--what a fun, new, exciting demography for us to be a part of. Really looking forward to the K-State/OSU game this coming weekend. It's gonna be exciting, a great game. Best wishes!
    I grew up in the shadow of the University of Utah but had season tix to BYU as a kid. Our big rivalries were Wyoming and New Mexico--no disrespect to those great schools and states, but so fun for both Utah and BYU to be celebrating our new environment and friends. You (heartland schools, collectively) were always the "big boys" who we looked up to from afar, back in the WAC days. We're very grateful to now get to rub shoulders with y'all.
    Go Big 12!!!

    Cole, your offensive line was gassed after the 1st quarter. I was sitting on the 15 yard line, and could see your lineman bent over and gasping for air at the 5,000 feet elevation. They never recovered. The noise level is almost impossible to work in in the student section.

    Jay Hill was masterful on his defensive play calling. He set up his chess board knowing Johnson isn’t a pocket passer. Letting kstate run it down the field gave Jay a chance to see the run game plan and deploy his defense. Jay Hill is a football savant that nobody talks about.

    BYU players admitted they started tight fwiw, but still stood tall in redzone.
    SMU hangs 66 on TCU, yet no TDs at home in Dallas. Also, one BYU put a spy on Johnson, things changed. BYU’s D is legit.

  • @rickconklin
    @rickconklin День назад +6

    Most of the team was not emotional prepared. Here’s my theory: SO many people prior to the game talked about how we didn’t have to open the playbook. This sends the message to players- “You don’t have to try hard to win the game”. Coaches should open up the darn playbook and be creative!

    • @magnashield8604
      @magnashield8604 День назад +2

      It also seemed like the coaches panicked. Kansas could still have controlled the game and come back in the second half but they started going for it on 4th down and throwing it when the run game was still working. I think that gave the wrong impression to the players and so there was this feeling of pressure and panic that infected the entire team.

      @@arthurvandalay2294 It literally was flukey. DJ has never fumbled, the bounce to scoop and score was incredibly lucky. The punt return TD was another incredibly lucky play. What wasn't flukey was trying to push the ball down 10-6 and throwing a silly interception, BYU capitalized on that, but big momentum swing plays like scoop and scores and insane punt return TDs that should've been down inside the 10 have a massive impact on confidence and the crowd buy in. BYU played well, but let's not pretend that two of those scores weren't flukey - heck, even statistics shows it was flukey. Does it matter if it was flukey if it ends up in the W column?

      Yep, BYU totally exposed K-State’s O weaknesses w/ blitzing AJ. Get ready for more of that all season! O line false starts lead to 2 FGs instead of TDs. Compliments to the rowdy BYU crowd. 3 turnovers & allowing a punt return for TD ain’t gonna win you many games & not a typical K-State performance. BYU D is legit. This hot rod of an offense we think we have at K-State due to the player talent level needs to get figured out & really soon w/ OSU coming to BSFS on Sat!

  • @davidfrey5654

    (BYU alum) BYU won that game because Kstate choked! Look at the Kstate stats. They are actually far better than BYU's. But BYU's defense took advantage of every error that Kstate made. We kinda got lucky on the dropped punt turned into a TD. If you watch the play, he got a perfect ball roll and one of his teammates almost steamrolled him. But then he got his legs and blockers and he took off to the endzone. Crazy play. BYU did have some great throws and one cray cray run by Moa into the endzone. BYU's D is legit. At least this week. We're always a bit skiddish with our team because the season starts out good and then it wanes and we're left heartbroken. Happens almost every year. But who knows, maybe this year will be different. Also, don't play BYU at night at home. Kstate is gonna come back next week and kick butt. They'll be in a good position at the end of the season. They're a great team.

SMU had no problem tagging TCU with 66 points. Against BYU? They didn’t cross the goal line 1 single time… just like K State didn’t!

    BYU d definitely needs recognition. I agree though, the play calling from the coaches is what killed K-state. If they would have calmed down and kept to the run game, they could have ground out a victory. Instead it seemed like K-state coaches panicked and it infected the team. Instead of trusting the field position and moving the ball, punting and playing for a 3 and out, they started going for it on 4th down way too early.
