Why would it be unfortunate that people have cognitive difficulties? You would wish someone to have a more difficult life? You would not find it unfortunate that the parents have to do additional research and have additional stresses beyond those common to all parents? I felt the same. Is it really that hard to use the right name and pronouns?! I mean the person who made this video wrote it, recorded it and edited it. They had SO many opportunities to see their mistakes. "journalism"... My god. A real journalist educates themselves in the subjects they're talking about and the people they're talking about and they use the right vocabulary. Is it really that difficult...?
@@vato4917 they are doing something actually (sorry I don't know @kalekoi 's pronouns). When someone is being racist, homophobic or sexist I hope you say something to make them understand that they can't treat someone like that. It's the same about transphobia. Because here, this is transphobic. The person who made this video wrote it, recorded it and edited it. They could see they made a mistake. They didn't because they're probably not educated in transness. And as a "journalist" you don't make an article or a video or anything else if you don't know the subject you want to talk about. Same for those who don't know a damn about transness but love to make us hear their opinion they have on it. And please, do you think Elliot has the time and the energy to correct every transphobics there are on the Internet?
Personal Lives of the actor/actress should never affect the story according to the writers, it’s their creation at the end of the day, to change it simply because of someone deciding to change their gender is abhorrent and selfish.
Everyone in this comment section that is being rude about dead naming needs to stop gaslighting this yt creator. It's very transphobic of all of you to try to speak for Elliot Page. You don't speak for him, so shut it.
I think it goes without saying that Elliot would not want his deadname used and spread around without his permission. He has stated they go by Elliot and use he/they pronouns so why would he be okay with this channel not respecting that? Ofc nobody can speak for him but surely using his preferred name and pronouns is better than using their old ones.
The fact that you keep calling Elliot by his deadname really rubs me off the wrong way, that’s so irrespecutful. His name is Elliot, his character name is Viktor, just because you’re talking about his character in season one, that’s not an excuse to misgender him.
They only use the name Ellen in past tense which I feel is appropriate. I'm not the final word end all that be all obviously but Elliot hasn't expressed any negativity towards this. But again, I dunno I guess it varies between individuals. Personally by default I'll go with the current preference, but I'll admit I occasionally slip. Especially with someone like Page who I've followed since Hard Candy (my BFF went to school with... him) so sometimes I catch myself slipping on gendering. But I try. Literally the least I can do. I could rant on about how infuriating it is when people intentionally dead name or misgender but... who has the time or energy

Autism is not something to fix. It can't be fixed. It's not a trait with which a kid is "unfortunately" born. It is a neurodevelopmental disorder which forces/allows people to experience life differently (and I'm not sugarcoating it). The real misfortune is that society is not designed to accommodate benevolent neurodivergencies, such as autism, while ableism, misrepresentation and absence of education on the subject are the rule. A fact that leads to autism becoming truly disabilitating for people on the spectrum. The clip picked for this video portrays maybe inexperienced or uneducated parents at the time it was recorded. As I've said before it's all about perspectives. We can see things in a positive light and take Elliots journey as a good thing instead of looking at things in a darker light & twisting everything out of proportions. Everybody think they know what Elliot wants by forming their own opinions about things but how would they know what Elliot wants? Do they talk to him on the daily? @@kalekoi no its not, the video made a mistake, it wasn’t being “extremely transphobic” you must live in a sheltered bubble if you think this was bad. Ive heard worse and my trans friends have experienced worse, your fight is useless

They were talking about Elliot before when he was Ellen for context because at the time of the videos (when she came out as a lesbian & got married), Elliot was a she. Eventually, they did use 'he' to refer to Elliot.

It's a shame that this particular clip was the one chosen for a video regarding a generally diverse and inclusive series. It perpetuates ableistic and offensive views in the best case.

@@deeplander ok but elliot went on a journey from being a gay women to a trans man, that was a real journey he went on & through, for many years he identified as a gay woman, now he identifies as a trans man( which is thats so great & lovely& amazing- he should live the life that feels authentic to him, all should be happy for him & anyone who isnt is a just a confused hateful person who probably hates themselves too) but like yes if they were ALWAYS a man& always identified as a man than it wouldnt be a TRANSISTION, i dont think elliot is under some kind of delusion that they didnt live half their life publicly as a woman & lesbian, sure he may never have felt right or comfortable until he transistioned but elliot DID live their life as a woman& WAS a self identified lesbian for many years of his life, and thats OK & then they came out as trans and THATS OK too, the point is that this video DID consistently use he/elliot consistently & only as soon as they got to that part of the history- now you can argue that the should have used he & elliot the entire time thats perfectly fair, but they were talking about elliots past when he DID publicly identify as female & lesbian& they told the whole story of him coming out (first as a lesbian women& second as trans man) at which point they only used he & eliot from then on, again you can say that wasnt improper but it is clear that the intent wasnt based in transphobia or disrespect otherwise they wouldnt have used he/eliot from that point on- it seems clear they were trying to tell the story of that journey not be disrespectful & while its fair to make the case why it should be done differently I really dont think it helps ANYONE ecspecially not trans people to react in such a hostile way when someone clearly was not intending to be disrespectful EVEN If it felt disrespectful in your view- the goal should never to be to shame & outrage & scold people who make a mistake or arent fully aware of something it should be to INFORM& EDUCATE to hopefully make them aware in the future, otherwise its exactly these kind of reactions are what FEED so much of the backlash& anti trans anti woke hysteria & it comes off like obnoxious virtue signaling which only turns people away & into hate filled aholes.

Okay I am very open-minded, but am growing up in a household not so much so, we are all struggling to understand but are trying to.... That being said I don't want to be offensive and have a genuine question: is it still not okay to call Elliot Ellen when giving backstory on his life because at one point in time (even though Elliot has always been Elliot and he/they, that's who he is), Elliot was called Ellen in real life and wasn't out yet? Idk if that made sense so to restate the question: is it not okay to call Elliot Ellen when giving a backstory on his life because the name Ellen was once a reality for him? Also his previous wife is a lesbian who fell in love with a woman at the time (even if it is a dead name or misgendering, it did happen that way) and it makes more sense to state history as it happened in reality

Yeah. I feel like the Trans community are reading too deep into this, getting themselves involved when nothing is being directly said to them, or targeted at them, and they're getting themselves hurt for no reason.
I've seen many other Trans youtubers who share their journeys on here and honestly it's quite a beautiful thing. There is no shame with knowing about a person's past and where they came from.
