I drive a 2003 CLK 430 soft top convertible. I've never driven a hard top convertible, but honestly I like the soft top look in these types of cars. There's normal people out there, none like us car guys and gals that don't even know what a hard top convertible is. They know a convertible when they see a soft top. I'd honestly stick to the "Soft Top" Akeem from the state of Massachusetts
MM A very nice MBZ. As you may remember, I live in Southern CA. But, I've never owned a convertible. My preference would be a hardtop convertible for noise reduction purposes. However, I'm sure the MBZ ragtop is very quiet, too. I hope you enjoyed your visit to Slovania. Safe travels.
They would have sold bucket load of this and the S-CABRIO in Dubai where I live if it was a hard top, but since it is not, it would not be able to withstand the heat and the cabin would start "melting" the occupants. The BMW 4 Convertible with hard top is a blockbuster hit here.
From NY, much like the folding HardTop. Coverts to a proper coupe when top down and better all around driver for the cold bitter NorthEast spring, fall and winter weathers.
I prefer the hard top. I currently own a Cadillac XLR and a Corvette convertible. With the soft top of the corvette and the top up, I can barely hear the cell phone however the XLR with roof up is just as quiet as, well, a Cadillac. Yes, they are two different cars, but no amount of cloth can hush wind noise in a soft top convertible at 75 MPH.
I love both the coupe and the convertible but I live in South Africa I would prefer the convertible as we have longer summer months and that would be perfect for that lovely sunny day.
Hard top ALLLL DAAAAY. Always thought soft tops ruin the lines and overall look of the car. And whilst this may sound silly, I prefer the hard top because when its up its still looks like a coupe... kinda. Plus hard tops are super sexy whilst they actually go down. something so mechanical about it. Im from Australia. the land where this thing starts at 80k lol
I prefer hardtop convertibles because here in England it rains like it did in this video almost every day and often in soft top convertibles the fabric can often become wet and in older cars can leak through
Hey Kyle . . . Good eye . . . So this TECH REVIEW has a bit of a different feel for two reasons. First and foremost, the rain. It shut us down literally at the point you see where I walk out of the shot after talking about the engine specs - and it wouldn't let up AT ALL! Sooo, had to get creative and thus you see - or 'hear' - a lot of Voice Over with details shots we got on another day mixed with some bonus footage. The second more and more inside baseball reason that it looks different - the cameraman I was paired up with there had a STUNNING camera. A Sony FS7. FAR better quality than what we normally shoot on . . . Camera aside, would love your feedback as well as anyone else reading this on the format of this TECH REVIEW. Good discussion.
+MotoManTV I like the format as well! It's nice to see some more shots of the car as you talk. In general, I am a fan of this style. You continue to evolve and I approve!
Hope you had a nice week in our smallish country. Except for the rain (cabrio). Can't wait for the driving session... A question, when did you were here? Because I saw a C class convertible in my town a couple of days ago. And I thought, nice some rich guy and his blonde busty girl already got one. Now I know why. It was a press release. By the way liked the review. And now you see why big American SUV's doesn't belong here.
We were there this week - Tuesday through Thursday. Actually, we were based out of Trieste but myself the crew found the lovely village of Dolenja Vas and basically shot in and around there - soooo, if you saw the Selente Grey C63s with the Red Top in and around there - that was definitely me:)
What is your opinion of the driving dynamics / characteristics (or which do you prefer) between the M4 and C63S? I really love that exhaust note, but it seems like the BMW has been getting higher marks and I am stuck between pulling the trigger on either. Obviously not able to test drive the C63S yet.
I prefer a hardtop C63 convertible because I like the C63 in the shape of a Coupé which has a hardtop. But after this car came out, it kind of changed how a C63 should look like in my mind. So a hardtop convertible C63 can sometimes make you feel like driving a Coupé while occasionally enjoying some roofless driving.
can choose fabric colors on soft top and no paint scratches or buffing , just spray condition. Have M3 SMG conv, prefer the M4 and 335is hardtop. Perhaps AMG will offer a removable hardtop like Boxster and my M3 conv, hanging it in garage straps isn't great in 2 car garage, need help removing and installing hard tops which also need to harness plug the rear map lights and they add too much weight to already sluggishly heavy conv M3 & Boxster.
The only attractive four-seater hardtop IMO is the Pininfarina Volvo C70. Everything else looks awkward with a hard top. For me I'm gonna have to go with the soft top. I also appreciate the weight difference. Atlanta, USA.
i like ur taste sir. c70 to me is probably is on the top as well. hoping they will make a new one in the coming years with the same pininfarina collaboration.
Don't forget the Ferrari California. Looks good top up or down. Otherwise, I agree with you. I was considering the BMW M4 cab but I just can't get over how ugly it looks to me from the top up rear section. Now I'm down to the beautiful Jag F-type roadster or the C43 Convertible.
I do prefer a soft top when it comes to a four seater but considered that there is sporty or gt like two seaters just like the SL it fits better than a soft top would do
Great info as always, @MotoManTV! I appreciate how much faster - than the competing journalists, you upload the reviews. Now when can I expect part 2? :) Ps. Tend to prefer soft tops due to space and looks. From Sweden.Ds. How was the sound insulation? And how comfortable would you say the ride is in the c63s in comfort mode?
Funny you mention sound insulation . . . we do cover it slightly in the FIRST DRIVE REVIEW but can say it was not good timing for this car that I drove the Rolls Royce Dawn RIGHT before it . . . :) Comfort mode? Let's just call it 'compliant' mode. I deliberately took the car to some harsh roads and even in comfort mode, it is still an AMG.
Hi @MotoManTV, is this the Selenit Grey that is available now in the standard sedan C Class (not coupé) ? because the palladium grey is not available anymore, at least in france..
I own and daily drive a folding hardtop in "the other same country" - Slovakia. I'd be happy with a fabric roof for a weekend car, but I can't afford one, or have a place to store it - I wouldn't want the fabric roof to have to deal with the elements year round. Plus there's the issue of vandalism, which might be a small risk based on where you live, but it's lurking in there. But I'm guessing I'll still get a soft top one of these days - probably when a daily will be forced to become more practical, and I'll have indoor parking available.
Motoman next time you come in Slovenia and film 5 miles from my home do mention that. You might be invited to a good lunch and a beer. Otherwise I hope you enjoyed our small country.
Yes - the C43 was the C450 which we drove already . .. . ruclips.net/video/wiMlTw392yw/видео.html - So expect this car badged as a C43. BTW - GREAT car!
Touche! While I *always* prefer two seat, impractical cars over four seat cars - in this case, the SLC is riding on an older platform. Comparing that platform to the current C Class is not fair - the current C Class platform is more robust and far more dynamic even though it is larger than the SLC. So for today, the C Cab. That may change when there is an entirely new SLC . . . S Cab - we'll talk A LOT more in the coming months - Good discussion.
Huba huba huba, would you look at those fenders! Looks like the folks at Affalterbach been hanging with the folks from Munich … I approve! That's a tough one M, I never dealt with either, but the way I see it, figure out their advantages\disadvantages & see if you can live with it. For example, The Canvas Top doesn’t age well once exposed to the elements for a few years ….and aside from the weight penalty & limited space, Hardtops looks awful while up on 4-seaters, case in point the BMW 4-series convertible.
Balkan , Albania i prefer the hard top I've been in a 2010 sl and it was the quietest convertible I've been maybe Bentleys and Rolls Royce soft top are quieter but i don't know never been in one and mostly i think the hardtops look better and feel safer
Soft top: lighter, less trunk space, I like the sound of rain on a soft top!
Loved the Tracktor WOW! I love how involved you get with every new inch of each vehicle it's amazing to see that much passion. :)
a soft top cabriolet is quieter if you get the insulated version (C400 or A5) plus you get more trunk space with top down.
Definitely a hard top for the longevity. Soft tops also will not isolate road noise as well.
Moto man tv is the best moto show channel on you tube!!!!

The soft tops on these are surprisingly quiet and nice but I do wish it was a hard stop . Thanks for the nice review

I would prefer a hard top. Soft top cars rarely seem to look nice with the roof up and the cloth fabric makes it look cheap.
Hard top ALLLL DAAAAY.

Im from Australia. the land where this thing starts at 80k lol
depends I guess. The E93 for example looks quite different from the E92 in the roof line
I love the wheels on that C63 AMG-S! Would have had them on a sedan C63 AMG-S.
I prefer hardtop convertibles because here in England it rains like it did in this video almost every day and often in soft top convertibles the fabric can often become wet and in older cars can leak through
Damn Those hands keep them still for 5 sec will you.
There is something visually different about this tech review. Different camera or lighting? I like it.

Prefer the hardtop. Looks nicer, not easy to get broken into. Soft top can be slashed open which security is always a concern in Los Angeles.

Only Moto-Man can make a C63 cabrio seem boring.
hahaha..

+minibus1351 it's long overdue, though rumors are to expect a new C car pretty soon. Personally I can hardly wait either (as a current C70 owner)

moto man tv. why is Daimler making soo many models of the same car. makes the buyers get confused really easy. in my opinion
I can answer that with a few symbols. $$$
I do prefer a soft top when it comes to a four seater but considered that there is sporty or gt like two seaters just like the SL it fits better than a soft top would do

Ja tudi sam sem na to pomislil isti trenutek. Le, da bi namesto piva ponudi vino.
Do you know if the c43 will come in a sedan form? I wanted to buy a 450 next year but the convertible only has 4 seats.
Yes - the C43 was the C450 which we drove already . .. . ruclips.net/video/wiMlTw392yw/видео.html - So expect this car badged as a C43. BTW - GREAT car!
Thanks MotoManTV! Can't wait to own it!
+MotoManTV are there no substantial upgrades in 450 and 43?
MotoMan, which one do you prefer: C convertible or SLC? S cabriolet or SL?
C Cab over SLC as for the other, come back on to on that - we will have the S Cab on the show shortly . . .
+MotoManTV don't just tell me which one you prefer, but tell me why you prefer. (Or maybe you can talk about this in future videos)

MotoManTV Thank you so much! I learn a lot from you.
Porsche used to offer FREE OPTION HARDTOPS, yet didn't tell customers. Funny, you know those sell for $2k painted like M3 roof
bast car for all time.
soft top, bc it only comes with soft top..btw looking for a new car. C63 convertible or corvette Z06.. Pls help..
Cloth top forever. Because of lightness. And I know it because I drive an NC MX5, in Italy.
I tought it was a S65 Coupe you've driven?
Huba huba huba, would you look at those fenders! Looks like the folks at Affalterbach been hanging with the folks from Munich … I approve!

I hate the rag top look, but hate that the hard top takes extra space in the trunk... So hard top. USA Philadelphia, PA
I'm sorry, but it is Mercedes-AMG C63 S.
Can you review Vanderhall Roadster?
Would LOVE to but it is very rare that we shoot cars not on offer in the US . . .
A to the M to the G...
S to the H to the U to the T to the U to the P...
M to the A to the K to the E with a M and a E...
+TheSuperMotoHooligan O to the K to the A to the L with a L and a O and a L...
Looks Great ! Handles Great ! Goes Fast !! Stops superb but is an unreliable POS !!
Where's the drive video? Huh huh huh
Hardtop because soft tops look terrible when they're up. Texas. Srt challenger
SRT got no balls -- 180 miles top speed -- did 2 miles race with my friend ( did u know result )💥💥💥💥💥💥‼️💥
Folding soft tops are great especially here in South Africa
The AMG looks like a common C class. It's for this reason I will never buy this.
Balkan , Albania
i prefer the hard top
I've been in a 2010 sl and it was the quietest convertible I've been maybe Bentleys and Rolls Royce soft top are quieter but i don't know never been in one
and mostly i think the hardtops look better and feel safer
