i worked in a dentist office for 2 years. i've only seen people come in for deep cleanings that were linked to the following: fear of brushing teeth (Odontoarruphobia), homeless and drub rehab patients, and individuals with anxiety and depression.
No one truly "doesn't care" if this happens. There's always bigger circumstances linked to it.

I remember I went to the dentist for the first time in years. I suffered major depressive disorder, my mom passed away, my brother a year after, a miscarriage, and was in an abusive relationship with a narcissist. When I went to the dentist, I was so ashamed and the dentist shamed me. It wasn't even a fraction of this bad. I had a bit of tartar buildup, and a few cavities. I brushed my teeth and flossed. Some days it was hard to get out bed and I struggled. I love with Cptsd after year's if being abused since childhood.
Now I'm studying and will be finished in a few months and getting a job so I can afford braces and to take better care of myself.

      @@MuthaFuckaJones. or trauma.
TL;DR . I had trauma, and didn't go the dentist for 10+ years, until I had no choice.
I was scarred as a kid. When i was around 5 or 6, i had pretty bad teeth. I was a bit spoiled. My mum tricked me into drinking some sleeping medication at the dentist, and I woke up strapped to a chair while they worked on my cavaties. Pretty traumatic experience, especialy when I could see my mom at the door way with tears in her eyes while I cursed everyone. The worst part was, a lot of the work was done on baby teeth that fell out in a couple years.
Wasn't really my mums fault, she was foreign, didn't speak good english at the time, and was being told I needed to get work done. TBF it was my grandmother who normally spoiled me.
Either way, I only got over it when I was 18. Had to get surgery, all stemming from bad teeth in my much younger years. Parents had plans to sue at first the original dentist because they thought he fked up, but laywer said it wasn't a strong case. It was more likely due to my bad teeth, than the dentist screwing up. The dentist did reach out to us, and while it wasn't likely his fault, he had notes that said I needed more work done. I tried to avoid going to the dentist and was trying really hard to keep my teeth clean. Anyhow, we didn't sue the dentist, but he did help us find a dental surgeon on discount though.
They had to put me to sleep, to do the root canal as I was reacting with panic attacks every time we tried to get it done. It was a serious surgery one to, since they had to dig deep to scrap out what ever it was.
Honestly I only got over the fear of the dentist, was mainly because the original dentist reached out. He actually came to our house, and talked about it. He said that the experience was during his first few years of dental work and regretted working like that. He said he got used to just offering sleeping aid to the parents for the kids, then working on passed out kids. He talked about how he now spends extra time talking to the kids, letting them know what he is doing, and making the kids feel more comfortable.
The original dentist felt really bad, that I had to be put to sleep in order to get dental work done. Why he reached out and came to talk to me and my family, after the surgery. He helped us get the surgeon, but didn't know I was that deeply scarred. Him reaching out and talking to me about everything years later, was really helpful. Kinda like meeting the villain and humanizing it. Still took a few more years, until I was fully not anxious at the dentist.

I didn’t go to the dentist for about 25 years and the only reason is I couldn’t afford it. Figure I need about $25-$50k worth of work. Impacted tooth removal, straightening, fillings, crowns, and probably some veneers to fix misshapen teeth. Two long-term relationships but now single, no kids, no insurance, and no government assistance. I work 70 to 80 hours a week, but still can barely keep ahead of bills And paying off a huge tax bill from when I was younger. I’m not depressed, and I don’t hate dentists. I actually dream of being able to afford having all the work done but at this stage, I don’t know when.

Please see a dentist or at least think about it. You deserve to be able to open your mouth and smile without fear. Dentists will do everything possible to save your teeth no matter what. My mom was a dental hygienist, and trust me, they've seen everything. What you should do is tell the office about your situation before you come in. Ask them if you can email them pictures (that way you don't have to even see them if they are rude about it) so they can give you the right amount of time for your appointment. You may have to make an initial appointment may just be for a cleaning and to evaluate what needs done and all of your options if your teeth are really that bad. The dentist may refer you to an oral surgeon depending on the issues you have. Also, when it comes to financials, you can ask if they will allow a payment plan or look up places that have a sliding scale based on income level.

@@9rebel9blood9 I'm sorry about that. The thing about teeth is that some of it is oral hygiene, and some of it is genetics.
