Volleyball is a popular team sport played by two teams of six players each on a rectangular court divided by a net. The objective of the game is to score points by sending the ball over the net and grounding it on the opponent's court while preventing the same effort by the opponent. It requires a combination of physical skills, strategic thinking, and teamwork.
    Basic Rules of Volleyball.
    1. Team Composition: Each team consists of six players on the court at any given time. The positions are divided into front-row players (attackers/blockers) and back-row players (defenders/setters).
    2. Scoring: Matches are played best out of five sets. The first four sets are played to 25 points, and the fifth set (if necessary) is played to 15 points. A team must win a set by at least two points.
    3. Serving: The game starts with a serve from behind the end line. The server must hit the ball over the net into the opponent's court. A serve can be underhand or overhand.
    4. Rally: A rally begins with a serve and continues until the ball hits the ground, goes out of bounds, or a team commits a fault. Each team is allowed a maximum of three touches to return the ball over the net.
    5. Rotations: Teams rotate clockwise each time they win back the serve from the opponents. This rotation ensures that each player gets an opportunity to play in both front-row and back-row positions.
    6. Hits.
    i. Pass (Bump): Usually the first touch, aimed to control the ball and set up the next play.
ii. Set: Usually the second touch, intended to position the ball for an attack.
iii. Attack (Spike): The third touch, aimed to send the ball forcefully over the net to score.
    7. Blocking: Front-row players can jump and extend their arms to block the opponent's attack. A block does not count as one of the three allowed touches.
    8. Faults:
    i. Double Hit: A player hits the ball twice in succession.
ii. Carry/Lift: The ball is caught or thrown rather than hit cleanly.
iii. Net Touch: Touching the net during play is prohibited.
iv. Foot Fault: The server steps over the end line before making contact with the ball.
    9. Boundaries: The ball must land within the opponent's court boundaries to score. If the ball lands on the line, it is considered in.
    10. Substitutions: Teams can make substitutions throughout the game to replace tired or ineffective players, typically without limit in recreational play but with some restrictions in competitive play.
Summarily, volleyball is a dynamic and exciting sport that requires skill, coordination, and strategic thinking. Understanding its rules and structure is essential for playing the game effectively and enjoying the competitive spirit it fosters.
