Billy Cobham - drums Randy Brecker - trumpet Fareed Haque - guitar Tim Landers - bass Scott Tibbs - keyboards Paul Hanson - bassoon, soprano sax Franco Ambrosetti - flugelhorn Bobby Watson - alto sax Dream team of good music.
A bassoon? That’s a bassoon playing jazz improvisation! That in and of itself is amazing. Do you realize how hard that is to do through that thin little air tube. Just goes to show you she is just a number these guys are great. Brecker and Cobham is magic even minus a brecker. This made my day
I've always loved the bassoon. As a sax player I tried it and just gave up!! That reed is a bugger. But more than that, this dude is a fantastic improviser. GREAT STUFF!
I played the bassoon in my school orchestra in my early teens. It was not difficult from a technical perspective, but yes, you are absolutely right - the reeds were a frickin' nightmare to maintain in a playable condition@@jimbim4405
Billy Cobham Crosswinds Project feat Randy Brecker Estival Jazz Lugano 2019-----Billy Cobham will perform with an incredible band featuring Fareed Haque (guitar), Tim Landers (bass), Paul Hanson (bassoon/sax), Osam Elelwy (keyboards), and special guest Randy Brecker on trumpet.
Cobham used many people who also played with Zappa. Tom Fowler comes to mind. The best always find the best to play in their band. Like Miles….John McLaughlin, Frank Zappa
Man, Randy is aging. So is Billy but I haven’t seen Randy in years. I’m positive Randy was part of the All Star Jam @ Newport Jazz @ Saratoga ‘78. Dizzy led and they closed with Night in Tunisia. Michael Brecker, Dexter Gordon and Sonny Rollins sax, Diz and Randy trumpet, DeeDee, George Benson and Al Jarreau vocals, George & Larry Coryell on guitars, Tony and can’t remember on drums, anyway….what a memory and what a performance. Larry took a solo and did a Hendrixesque take on bebop that received a standing ovation. Shalom
Randy may be aging, but he can still play off the stage most players half his age. He's an incredible asset to any group he appears with. May every musician age this well...
@@jazztraveler just referring to how people can change. I used to frequent the Brothers Brecker NYC club Seventh Avenue South, you’d see them occasionally if they were in town….seen Randy numerous times but it has been years.
I was part of the NY music scene back then. A band I was with even opened for the Breckers at My Father's Place in Long Island about 45 years ago. So, I know a bit about aging... But Randy continues to be amazing even in his late 70's. I am sure Michael would be too if he was still around. Here's to great musicianship, at any age. Peace.

There was a bassoonist in the front line of the rock band Henry Cow - Lindsay Cooper - see: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindsay_Cooper
The bassonist is the monster: Paul Hanson
