Just a funny anecdote, when I was young (like maybe 10) I'd swear oaths to (the Christian) god that I would do a thing so that if my parents didn't want me to, I could argue that they would let me. "I promised God I'd go to my friends house!"
They didn't buy it.
I grew up mormon and they make you make an oath to God when you're only eight years old before you get babtized
I made all kinds of oaths to jehovah out of fear of damnation back in the day. I broke them all. I wonder if that extends to being an oath breaker in the eyes of other gods as well?

A sacrifice of great value to the gods and a gift of great value to whomever else you swore might be a start but your actions thereafter are all you have control over. Ultimately, you are at the mercy of the gods and to those you swore and your future honor is in their hands.

What are examples of well-considered or thought-out oaths you've heard/made?
How do you feel about conditional oaths? As an example, should situation X ever come to pass I will perform action Y. It deals with the future and that time may never come during your lifetime.
Is that a jangly altar to the gods above your handlebars?

Would you consider making a baptismal covenant (with the Christian god and a Christian Church such as the Roman Catholic Church or one of the Anglican churches) as an adult to be an oath? If so, that'd make the person an oath breaker if they converted to another religion? Just curious for your views on this.
Usaly christans are pressured into making said oath from there congregation. I grew up mormon a d had to swere an oath to Always follow christ when I was eight. Tgi I didn't have a concept of what the hell I was doing becuse I was not only eight but an autistic child so the concept of it all was wierd like when my dad tried babtizibg me I just saw watter and tried to swimm around in it

I was baptized, swearing all the things to the Christian god, as an adult. I no longer even believe that particular god exists, so I have no qualms about having broken those oaths, they were made to a non existent thing, as a result of brainwashing. leaving the xtian faith is a part of becoming a better person, not becoming dishonourable.
The only oath I’ve sworn is that I would never betray or abandon the gods as in i will worship them until the day of my death and beyond that
