Yeah, and imagine how massive your hands would have to be to reach around and touch the back of your TV!! Sadly I doubt Tearaway will be seeing a big screen port ;)
Sadly I don't think the Vita TV can use a Vita as a controller. And even if it did, I think it'd be a little strange to look at a TV while using a touch screen elsewhere (unless the game were designed that way like many WiiU games).
@Personne Sérieuse 1. Learn the difference between MegaBITS (Mb) and MegaBYTES (MB). 2. PS3 has 512MB (that's MegaBYTES) of RAM split into two separate modules of 256MB each whereas the Xbox 360 has 512MB of RAM in a unified pool.
Hey man, excellent video, really helped me to figure out what to expect when PS Vita TV comes to the west. Can I just say though that it would be smart to point out that you'll need a Japanese PSN account and all that stuff, sometimes people don't realise
Thanks for the comment! True that would have been good info to include at the start. I guess because I'd made other videos around the same time I didn't think it necessary to say it. Cheers for the advice :)
This needs to come stateside, seriously. Ive been hearing that games are upscaled and runs on 720p. Or I could be wrong? I'd rather get this than the next-gen consoles cuz Im sure it can hold off on its own. And its compact!!
The games look beautiful on an HD TV, and it's currently running 1080i for me, but there's no actual upscaling as far as I know. I think the native PS Vita resolution was just really good to start with.
I'll take your word on that haha! I played a Vita demo from a gamestop and frankly I'm not really that sold as a "next-gen" handheld =/ That's why I'm a bit skeptical with a Vita TV, I don't like pixels popping up here and there =(
Sony probably thought it'd be easier to make a Vita that works only on a TV rather than add accessories on the Vita 1000 to be played on TV, like it was done on PSP. This is probably due to financial reasons. That's why HD upscaling was scrapped out on the Vita 2000.
My ps vitas arriving on tuseday omggg yay its saterday gonna get minecraft for it im sooooo eciteddd yaýyyyyyyyyyyyyyyAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYAYYYYYYYYYYAYYYYYY
If you ask me the PS Vita TV seems an unnecessary product, I would rather have like a HDMI cable that you can connect to the actual and then you just use that. It would also get rid of the compatibility issue that the PS Vita TV seems to have when it comes to games like Uncharted and Gravity Rush, that have elements to them that can only be controlled by the touch screen/pad. Now I also have a question that may seem obvious to most if not all tech people, but I have been thinking of buying a 64GB memory card for my Vita but I need to know if there are any compatibility issues between a memory card bought from Japan with a PS Vita bought in Europe. I assume there is none and I'm just being stupid about it, but I need a 100% assurance that there are none before I invest in it.
All my hardware is Japanese so I can't give you a 100% guarantee, but I really can't see why it wouldn't work. The only reason it might not work would be if the firmware 3.00 for Europe is different to the firmware 3.00 for Japan. I have actually recently hit the limit for icons on the home screen which is an issue I hope they'll fix soon.
PS Vita TV might well be an unnecessary product but...Vita has no HDMI and I'm spending a lot of time enjoying Soul Sacrifice on my HDTV! I hope sales start to pick up in Japan, they're been on the low side since the launch.
NihongoGamer There people who modify PS Vita so that it can connect to TV. Also, the first generation PS Vita has a mysterious port on the top that maybe could be used for TV out.
from what i recall it should be no problem as the cards from the US system work on the Japanese units of the Vita.. so I don't see why it wouldn't work
'The instructions are in english; what further proof do you need that it is coming to the states?' The instructions were multilingual and english is a major language in Japan...and everyone in the world speaks english. Derp.
julio alcantara You have never played a freaking Wii U then. Nice trolling though it worked for many people including me to respond to you, but the Wii U is a great console. Sure it's lacking 3rd party, but it has great 2nd and 1st party games. I play all consoles and I can tell you this is not better than Wii U. This is a great console for playing Vita games on the TV, but it is not in anyway better than the Wii U.

I'm kind of surprised at the lack research people have doing before buying this device. Vita games the use the touch surface as part of their core gameplay are currently not compatible with the vita tv. Still a nice device and probably worth my money probably will have use physical games until the US and European stores open for it.
See just watching this video proved my fears correct about this BS product! The only thing they needed to do was to be able to use your Vita itself as the controller while you play your Vita games on the TV its not that complicated, but nooo they made only work by using your Duel Shock controller, what a waste!!!
Lore Nexus I too would have loved an HDMI cable from the Vita, but the truth is that tethering products via cable is likely to decrease sales as it looks like old tech (even though it's perfectly fine). A vita-3000 with "airplay" would have been ideal :)
NihongoGamer what makes things worse is that you have the vita already connected to the tv through a separate attachment, but rather then just stopping there your connecting another item to the vita, by the time you are done it looks like a old school LAN party having what 3 items connected to each other. I mean all they needed was to let you play on the TV with the Vita that's it! So far I notice a few games I want to play are not compatible which makes this idea suck for me! Which in truth they are losing sales regardless of tactics.
... Pretty stupid imo ... Takes the whole handheld console thingy away if u use the vita tv ... if u wana play on a tv u might be beter off with a ps3 or 4 lol... this is just lame
For around $99 ish it is still cheaper than ps3 also it does more than just play vita games. I think it could appeal to people like me who work away on site for two weeks at a time and cant travel with a full size console
i think there's another use for it as well , cause (i think) now people (youtuber especially) can record at the very least some of the PSVITA games cause from what i see you just need to connect Vita TV to a screen with HDMI input
The touchpad on the DS4 is not used to increase Vita game compatibility sadly. It's used for PS4 remote play only (as far as I've seen in testing so far).
There's actually an option to use the buttons to navigate the UI on the regular Vita too. It feels much nicer than moving around and rearranging things with the touchscreen.
Indeed this is true. The PS Vita TV only has this option though, so it's nice that those new features like holding down X to peel away apps and pulling sliders (like volume etc) work nicely. I'm not a fan of the PS3 XMB.
i cant BELIEVE i never saw this anywhere. the unit may not have all the app compatabilities but that's not what i'd be after. i'm a gamer. apps are for pc users. so i think i'll check round and see what rpgs are available that i'd like and maybe get one of these later in the year or for christmas. oooh sweet. i remember there being a tales game out for the vita. i wonder if it's compatible with this.
Wow. This is very helpful! Thank you so much for the video! Btw, may I ask how big your TV screen is? Is it LCD or LED? And how beautiful is the PSTV's game played on a big screen? Since these games are originally made for small screen, I just couldn't help but think that the graphic will look shattered when enlarged..
Im sure that games that relly on the touch screen wont work like killzone or uncharted but i also think that it is very likely that these games will eventually receive an update that maps the tuchscreen gestures to ps3 anolog stick or ps4 touch pad(mokes more sense). I really hope they release it in the west because i would SO get it!!!
There are rumours that Guerrilla Cambridge has already planned an update to allow Killzone to work on PS Vita TV. I'll be sure to try it out as soon as I find out more.
Almost "Totally" outta topic but would be nice to get a review of the tv contents on vita tv. Ordered one of those to sell but I'm considering sticking to it (if i find out a good reseller of jpn cards and what sortta tv content goes on )
Really liked the shelves in Bruce Wu-Tang fighting game I thought some of the moves were missing although it looked like it was clearly hitting the character or maybe I still haven't gotten familiar with the game here at Aloha
Question: my psvita slim won't hold a charge, I tried more then one charger but all of them won't charge it, It shows a orange light when it charges but then it stops charging, need help,
I was considering getting one of these, but the problem is that Uncharted Golden Abyss and Gravity Rush were 2 of the major games I wanted for it, so it's a shame they don't work.
Meleemario720 well if you think about it, it makes sense that Uncharted Golden Abyss wont work on it. that game requires both the front and back touch surfaces of the Vita... you cant do that with a DS3 controller :P still sucks balls that it cant work though
True, though maybe some of the functions could have been mapped to a dual shock 4's touch pad but that'd be tricky to map out. I'll stick to playing Vita games on a Vita, It'll have at least 100% compatibility with my games.
The cross and circle buttons are different (Swapped) because its a Japanese region console. Pretty much the same on PS1 Japanese games and a Japanese PS2/PSP/PS3/Vita system
What are you talking about easier to navigate/edit the home screen on the Vita TV, you can use the buttons on the Vita to do the same things you where doing with the DS3.
I would be hugely surprised if it didn't work. I expect that most (but not all) Vita games released in Japan from now on will have Vita TV support. I'm also very excited about SAO coming out next year!
Netflix is not available on the PS Vita TV sadly, and actually the RUclips app also doesn't work (fail). But hopefully with 'Playstation TV' coming out soon there will be Netflix apps and working RUclips apps.

So, this is basically what the Vita could have been, if you could have connected it to a TV directly via a cable like you could with the PSP?
Sony probably thought it'd be easier to make a Vita that works only on a TV rather than add accessories on the Vita 1000 to be played on TV, like it was done on PSP. This is probably due to financial reasons.

The cross and circle buttons are different (Swapped) because its a Japanese region console. Pretty much the same on PS1 Japanese games and a Japanese PS2/PSP/PS3/Vita system
You know when you connect the psvita to the tv can you play it using the ps vita or can we play it only with the controller
:) nice colours!
PlaY4Zakk Go llll
NBNMinecraft 1 no, it's colour

I want one!
What are you talking about easier to navigate/edit the home screen on the Vita TV, you can use the buttons on the Vita to do the same things you where doing with the DS3.
I wonder if Sword Art Online Hallow fragment will work on the psvita tv when its released in Japan in February ?
I would be hugely surprised if it didn't work. I expect that most (but not all) Vita games released in Japan from now on will have Vita TV support. I'm also very excited about SAO coming out next year!
Holy shxt! I need to get this so I can play phantasy star online 2 on the big screen!
NihongoGamer can we download movies onto the memory card (like the Vita) and then play them on any TV without an internet connection?
Nice review go-though & it did not feel boring at all, awesome! Just to ask, is the "Way of the Samurai 4" available to DL/Play on the Vita/VitaTV?
Great video wish you woulda open Netflix and RUclips. I would like to see how it would have worked and looked.
Netflix is not available on the PS Vita TV sadly, and actually the RUclips app also doesn't work (fail). But hopefully with 'Playstation TV' coming out soon there will be Netflix apps and working RUclips apps.
NihongoGamer what... lame. not much of a reason to get it then. i mean, for me at least. having youtube and netflix gives it so much more use.
i just realised you got the 2000 series
