I like this tutorial because you're not using conventional methods of performing a live set. And I think it is awesome to know more than one way of doing that.
Unfortunately there is not so many videos on how to prepare live sets on youtube and a lot of them are pretty dumb tbh. This one was great, thank you for this!
Ayo I need help regarding live performance, like I’m trying to learn how to do it myself, I wanna know what I need(digitally)
This is excellent! The Instrument Track routing, to be able to easily switch between instruments during live performance without having to have like 30 separate tracks, was essentially the most important thing I was looking for! Super helpful.
Thank you so much! Very helpful! That thing with chain selectors is an eye-opener haha you saved me so much time
timing couldn't have been better. i opened for Galantis and had so many things playing automatically. but now i'm easing into playing a lot more parts of my music on stage. looking forward to attending one of your shows @Cella!
This is really helpful to me just getting to a point of wanting to figure out how to do all these things live. Grateful is an understatement. Also, love the Bliss remix you did
dude your music is absolutely amazing, your melodies are so beautiful and advanced, everything you do has such an experimental yet musical approach and everything just works. Huge fan.
found your music yesterday and I'm honestly so excited to keep up with everything :) truly amazing
Literally what I've beeng looking for this whole time, thanks! I wanna try it now
Thanks for the tip about managing live playing few instruments on one keyboard. Also tip from me. If you have 2 octave keyboard, use automated pitch shift.
Thanks for this video man. after 9 years of production I had my first show and it was awesome, I too, didn't really play a lot of instruments, but after what you said at the end of the video, I felt less guilty. Subbed to your channel and followed on spotify. Keep up the tunes man
Thank you for explaining this thoroughly!
Great! I needed this! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this. Gonna do a live set for the first time and I really didn't know where to start.
Thank you, that was very interesting!
Gracias por tu generosidad ! 🙏
Well thought out presentation. Yes, finding a balance is key!
Thank you for the video! It was interesting to get an insight into your process of preparing a Live set! :)
WOW this was slightly over my head but i saw your workflow clearly thanks!
Thanks Cella, great helpful insights!
Great vid 👍 looking forward to many more
Oh your video is very helpful to figure it out some details. Thank you!
dude your very wise with your words, amazing thanks mate
Really appreciate this gem
I was looking for ages for a video like this. BTW drowning is a track that I wish I made 👊🏾. I hope more producers will perform their music live and that better instruments will be built that make it easier for only two hands.
Same long journey for me after Covid I pivoted from live band with two other guys to solo electronic and it’s tough! Thanks for this
The tip about bpm naming was so good.
And I really think it's great how are use explain this.
You sent
I do lots of Ableton masterclasses in Cape Town and abroad teaching up and coming Ableton artist how to create their set, and techniques to execute what they want to do live. appreceate your work bro
This was a great tutorial!
thanks for sharing this!
Super helpful, thanks so much
Also live small lights stuff - cool!
greaaat video, even after two years very relevant!
I'd really love to see a video about your mastering process. Would be dope
Thank you! Your music is amazing and so grateful that you shared your process! :) I have a doubt tho, what are those tracks that are between the black in ear and the side chain?
I’m so glad I found your video. I’ve been watching other people’s videos and feeling hopeless about exactly what I needed. This solved every question I had. Do you have a video about how your setup is now?
yoooo super helpful video! keep it up
super helpful thanks!
Chain Selector : thank you!!!
Thank you!!
NICE ONE! well done!
Thanks!
Good tutorial thanks
Hi Cella. Great video!
You confirmed some of the concepts I already use and inspired more to try out.
I played my first couple of (very small) shows after covid and can relate so much to what you say, especially at the end of the video.
Greetings from Hamburg and thanks a lot for sharing 🙏💜
PS: since Ableton 12 the way to apply a tempo to scenes has changed. Now you have to select the master track, highlight the desired scene and edit the tempo it in the section below (similar to clip settings) Took me a while to figure this out. Maybe helpful for someone :)
Hey cella can you explain about in ear monitors the one you use for performing live thanks
can you make a video explainin about how you use and set up the dmxis thing?
did not know that tempo trick. thanks
coole typ 🙂
Hey man. Thank you for this. What are the names of the lights you use? They look awesome
viele Dank :D
wow thank u
(:
I've never seen the instrument rack for multiple tracks approach before and it is genius. Thank you very much for sharing that!! But I also wonder if EQ, compression, and general processing must be the same for all the instruments within the rack?
You can always place individual processing effects on each instrument chain inside the instrument rack. But sidechain for example i would suggest to place for the whole rack. otherwise it gets a bit to complicated! 🙂
Chain selector!! Intresting thx
Hello! Is there anyway you can share the lights you purchased with me? I would love to know more about your lighting set up actually!
How do you make the volume get stronger when you play on ableton live?
thank you tytytyty
nicee
Hello sir. Can we play 2 midi keyboard in one time. With one laptop
Hey Cella, this is extremely helpful thank you! I'm wondering, when using the instrument chain with an external controller, how would I go about filtering CC's sent from a knob or slider on my controller to only effect the active instrument in the chain, rather than all subsequent instruments in the chain? I've seen older versions of ableton seem to have a "filter midi ctrl" setting within the chains function, but I've had no luck finding similar in the latest version! Thanks again.
as far as i know its not possible to filter the cc control mapping. i usualy effect all the instruments with the knob, but since only the selected one is audible, it should not matter that much :) besides: most of the effects i control are mapped to a effect rack on my master chain or the whole synth chain, so the mappings dont really interfere with each other. because i've got enough buttons on my mpd. hope this helps!
@@Cellaofficial much appreciated! i've not yet found a workaround either, thanks!
10:30 does this work with non-ableton devices, like vsts and stuff?
I love your video and thanks a lot to u for ur all efforts. Appreciate it.
And I think doing live performance can not be taught.
You need to come up with your own set ups and layout.
It must be unique.
It can be the same or have similar set up or layouts with some of us. But I think to get a pure live performance from one, one must be come out with his own built from scratch set up.
yes totally agree! it's nice to have a starting point but ultimately the fun starts when you are building your own setup 😎
how to sync midi send video for other computer? pleas
you can try using a midi interface on both computers and connect them by midi (thats what i did). But if you keep your Live file at very low CPU Usage (dont put in cpu hungry vst instruments) you'll be able to play video-visuals from the same laptop!
What song was playing in the beginning? Sounds sooo goooddd
just came out last week! Its' called Prophet. You can listen to it here on YT or applemusic/spotify etc
Sehr hiufrich, danke viu mau.
I bought the same midi keyboard. but the lights of the left (play, loop, etc.) keys do not turn on. and I could never get those keys to work. I wonder if I have to do something to make it work or is my keyboard faulty? I will be glad if you can provide information.
check if you have the driver installed, and check if you have the komplete piano enabled in your ableton control "surface settings"
@@Cellaofficial Thank you. I needed to install and activate the Komplate Control program in Native Access.
Who is the artist in the thumbnail for this video?
i am ;)
drue zwoi eis ....
So CPU is at 48/50% even before hitting play....ok
yup, good catch, thats because i used to include vst's from arturia and and u-he etc. which are very cpu hungry. what i do nowadays ist stem out all the sounds that i need from a vst, and just put them in a sampler and assign the keys :) that way you can save a ton of cpu! ✌
Man, as awesome as Ableton is, that UI is atrocious
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👌🏼
