Good review. On the video storage, you mentioned it would be nice to have the ability to backup the videos onto a NAS etc. Do you know if its possible to SSH into the Cloudkey and access the drive to do this ? Its just a computer in any case running Linux so seems plausible. I'd like to see some geogfencing abilities added in also.
Very well said sir, I have been using Ubiquiti since 2020 when I purchased my UDM Pro and the 8 port PoE switch, I have quickly out grown it since I ran more CAT 6 cable and made way for cameras and 3 APS. It has been so much fun to complete this task that I'm actually going through withdrawals now. I am looking to upgrade my 24 port PoE switch to a 48 to future proof and upgrade a couple of bullet cameras to the G4 Pros but that will be next year after I recover from all the equipment I have purchased and if the wife approves 😉
Can you export video from the NVR onto a flash drive or download to the computer? Also, can this be accessed externally from outside the LAN via web browser? I see you're connected directly using the local IP. Is the app also connectable from outside the LAN?
Great review - thanks. If you had 8 cameras do you think that the amount of data from the cameras to the NVR (Cloud Key) would slow the network? I would prefer a separate NVR but not possible (or certainly not easy) with this system. I like Unifi and I want to get the cameras but do not want to get complaints from the users that the network is slow. Would love to hear what you think. Thanks.
May I ask if the Cloud Key Gen2 can handle 2 1080p streams in 24/7 recording mode? I'm also planning to manage an AP and a Ubiquiti switch. If these are not going to saturate the cloudkey I'm definitely IN! :)
I'm afraid Yusuf isn't around and wedon't have the hardware anymore, but I would look at the newer UDM Pro if you're keen on using Protect, these devices still use the older generation UI.
It nice that you can use your browser for viewing your cameras, but there is one thing I do not like with the unit and that is it do not have a HDMI port to connect a dedicated monitor just for viewing live camera footage. For Example at present, my Zmodo NVR, if someone ring my bell I can easily view my TV monitor, to see who is at the front the door. While being able to use a web browser is a plus, I do not what to wait for a computer to boot-up just to view footage and I do not want the additional equipment running just the view footage or live feed. The computer running is extra equipment running beside the monitor. On the other hand a TV monitor start up time is short with instant viewing and I do nor need a computer to be running just to get a live feed on the monitor.
Since it can run it in a browser, you could run something like a Raspberry pi and stick it to the back of the monitor. You can leave that on 24/7 as it only needs USB power to run ;-)
Great review, seems to be the most descriptive Unifi Protect yet
Great review. Ubiquiti has great technology. I use their EdgeRouter Lite (ERLite-3) for my 1 Gbps ISP service.

Good work brother!
Hi,
I wonder when will this be compatible with Google Home an Home Assistant?
Do you have an update to the use of the system since there have been several updates to this system?

Could not find price on 5terra nvr? Links to the cameras you were using would help??? The one's I did look at seemed pricey

11:23 ... Synology Surveillance has geofencing knowing that you are at home / easy fix that Unifi should implement.
Is it possible touse cameras from other brands as well? (Onvif)
No, Unifi only.

@@MakeUseOf Thanks for getting back to me. Much appreciated.

I agree, and it's the main thing that differentiates this from other leading NVRs.

HE JUST RAMBLES ON AND ON GET TO THE POINT
Thanks for your feedback :) Will bear that in mind.
Seemed perfectly fine to me, you covered nearly everything :-)
