I love how you showed how accessible bookbinding can be for any budget and skill. Can't lie, anxiously awaiting the next craft and crime video though😉 thanks for the inspiration while I wait Nik!
You are very skilled. You take the time and pay attention to every detail of every step, even when applying the glue. It’s rare to see these days in the busy chaotic world we live in. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I love making books. I’m gonna make a journal like this one I can carry in my purse. Thank you for the tip with the baking soda and coffee! I made a journal for my daughter 4 Christmas’s ago using scrap leather from Tandy leather company. It was a baby blue leather cover with 4 different types of paper and made an accordion file envelope in the back. It turned out really beautiful. Since then I have been hooked on making books.
@@pennycandyys Hi Penny! Yes it was leather inside and out. I didn’t glue the pages down to the leather covers. I cut a matching strip off the blue leather to wrap around the journal. (Think of a travel journal.) I stayed with that concept. I didn’t want it to restrict the amount of her inserts (since she was in Scotland) inside so I kept it where it just wrapped around the book. I tied charms on each end of the straps. I had a blast making this journal. I hope you have the same joy I did Penny!
@@poetsdreamsatc When I get to it, I'll try to let you know! I'm recovering from something right now, so it will be a while yet before I get at it, I think. :)
I’ve watched probably 1000s of JJ vids. After all that…today I saw a technique that I hadn’t seen before and I love that. You are by far the BEST creative/artist/booksmith! 🥰
Nik, I had to smile to myself as I could imagine hearing my children saying..."really, do you think you have to make everything yourself?"...too wit my answer is, "yes, yes I do." Actually I just wanted to tell you I loved your project and the clever way you added the gold framing on the covers.
hahaha! That's right, kids, listen to your wise momma! They'll learn soon enough that the best things in life are not ready-made or instantaneous. 😉 thanks, Jnett
Thank you for showing how easy it is, without any “fancy” stuff you need to buy. On a strict budget this is perfect to make my own books, using “old” material… 💕
Left in the bookbinding dust but picked up at least two new keys, baking soda to neutralize acidy in papers and using the edge of chipboard to create gold lines! Brilliant knowledge.
Thank you for sharing your videos. I love how you explain what you did & what you forgot to do. Your voice is amazing & the way you explain the process is so understandable! I have watched several of your videos & want to jump in & try my hand at book binding!
Thank you for this video Nik, I appreciated the clear instructions and commentary. I think many youtubers don't realise how difficult it is some times for people like me to understand what they are saying - they talk too fast, in accents which I (as a Brit) can't quite understand. Hands - with false nails and rings - occupy centre stage, rather than the crafting itself! And they often turn their projects around, moving too fast - 'what did they just do?' I ask myself and have to watch on 1/4 speed to find out. I'm keeping this video in my 'Processes' folder - so that I don't forget to tip in the endpapers too!
Thank you! Love the no nonsense and straightforward way you do your videos! I’ve learned so much. The detailed instructions and tips are greatly appreciated!👍👍👍❤️🤩
You know, dearest Nik, Tim Holtz has a deckle edged trimmer??? Poor you!!! Tearing all those edges!!! Lol!!! 🤣🤣🤣. Love the project!!! 💖💖💖🌸🌸🌸. I love your tools - the big orange “L” shaped thingy & your cool long awl.
I cannot believe how absolutely beautiful the book is and the cover is with no fancy materials❤❤ As a fellow bookbinder, I learn so muchh from your videos! So many new techniques and decoration ideas😍
thank you for another very enjoyable video. I really appreciate the clarity of your instructions and that each process is so well presented. I look forward to every video, thank you again.
I can't tell you how much I love, love this Tutorial...Great Book..oh my goodness, thank you Nik...great tips, and great finish to the journal..Beautiful 👌😊💐💞
Looks great - love it!!!! Great use for old knitting needles!!! LOL!! Glad to see I am not the only one that uses them for other things than knitting (which I don't really enjoy!!)
I really appreciate.your.videos. I am older always.did.many crafts but will need to subsidize income so have decided to downsize and only make personalized daily planners. Work at hospital and our hours and schedules are different from norm. Thank you so much for you budget friendly ideas than maintain professionalism.
Your commentary is the best I’ve heard on any demo video. You clearly, fully, and simply describe the process of turning a cheap booklet into a priceless (considering the time!), beautiful journal. Thank you for taking the time to share.
I really enjoy watching the transformation process! You are so skilled and make the process seem easy. This book is adorable!! Your videos inspire me every time to try something new.
Hello Nik, there is no one like you that adds such miticulus details to create a work of art out of such simple things. Beautiful project. Thanks for sharing. I pray that you and yours are all doing well. Take care and God bless you and yours. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
This is absolutely amazing! As are all your tutorials, and frugal enough for me. I did miss your banter a bit as you always make me laugh but I loved it none the less. Thank you ♡♡

Sssssame! So unique
Subtitle: "But it looked too new. . . ." and out comes the sandpaper! This looks freakin' FANTASTIC. LOVE how you did the frame and oval. GENIUS!
Sandpaper to the rescue!

I love that idea, and for a small book the amount of leather you would need wouldn’t be much. Was the leather both inside and outside the cover?

the way you embellished the cover was extremely clever!
No matter how many books I watch you do. I love watching you make them!!!!
This is beautiful. No one could tell it was a notebook from the beginning. It looks like an old Bible.
