    Thank you for this series Jim, I'm restoring a E-flite/Horizon Hobby V-22 Osprey and your tips on smoothing the "Jiffy Pop" surface of it prior to painting are a BIG help!

    purple power degreaser is the best paint remover ever. no damage to the foam, no sticky residue, no melted foam.

    I just found your site. A+ on the repairs! I might add that carbon fiber dust is really bad for lungs! I use a fine tooth Zona Saw and make the cuts with water running over the saw.

    the acetone looks like it would do a good job for weathering a warbird

    I had seen this series and tried to find it again. Your title makes it hard to find. It's a great series and shows great craftsmanship.
    I was searching for paint, repainting, foam, rc plane and your video showed up only on page 10.

    How did you get paint off of the plastic canopy?

    Thanks Jim! I really enjoyed all your videos. PS. I wear gloves when working with Acetone because it is toxic and will seep into your skin. Just a thought.

      It's not really toxic - it is a actually ketone that occurs naturally in the human body. Part of the cause of a hangover.

    Thanks for posting these videos. A huge help to a newb like me! Did you buy or build your yellow and blue plane holder. I need that! ;). Thanks again

    What is better to use for fixing cracks foam safe ca or low temp hot glue ??

    • @AZJim12
      @AZJim12  6 лет назад +1

      For EPO foam, I like medium CA. Not the foam safe, just regular CA. For minor tears, thin CA will penetrate deeper and connect the fractures between the foam bubbles. Hot glue works but can be messy. If your model is EPS foam, use foam safe CA.

    CAUTION: Acetone WILL eat/soften the EPO foam if the surface it broken. In the above video, there was no sanding peformed so the acetone removed paint without damaging the foam. If there are any cuts, nicks or if you have sanded the foam DO NOT USE ACETONE it WILL EAT/MELT your precious model. NOTE also that this is a "newer" EPO foam. If you put acetone anywhere near an older EPP foam plane, the plane will disintegrate into a pile of molten mess right in front of your eyes !! Cheers.

      Exactly, Acetone should be tested somewhere INSIDE where you don't see it. Same with any kind of colour you are using. Had some ugly surprises allready.

    Will The film Stick to repaired areas with glue or putty? Or just clean foam surfaces?
    😁

      Karl Erik Lund. Not sure what film you are talking about. Vinyl decals will stick to any firm surface and I've heard others discuss success with other vinyl film coverings. Main thing is firm and smooth.

    I'm surprised the acetone isn't eating the foam. Nice video but acetone is not good on your bare skin. It will absorb through your skin and is highly toxic.

    • @AZJim12
      @AZJim12  6 лет назад

      Mike Breler That was brought up before and is right. I was in rush after setting up the shot and forgot to put them on.

    • @AZJim12
      @AZJim12  6 лет назад

      Mike Breler Note from chemical safety facts.org: "acetone has been extensively studied and is generally recognized to have low acute and chronic toxicity." If nothing else, gloves helps keep the mess off your hands. ☺
