    I'd nationalise the water as well, let stop the very greedy corporate business, having enormous profits , and the share holders. Its a disgrace, .

    What experience of nationalisation? Everything in the UK has been sold off for peanuts for foreign investors and the entire show is in total collapse. Private companies don't work for essential public services. These services should be operated for the public. Not for foreign profit.

    The councils have ruined the bus services. They need fixed pronto. People losing their jobs because buses make them late everyday. The woman said there is no plans to change that just now… what is so hard for GMB to understand that? There is no plans for it just now but they might look at it in the future, I don’t see them taking away over 60’s free bus travel but if they do just move to Scotland and you’ll get free bus travel all the time for been over 60.

    When privatisation started, SouthWestTrains was first off the rank. I have used their services over three visits to the UK. Without exception all services were punctual, trains were clean, staff were very helpful ( I experienced bus replacement on one occasion, and it worked well) and stations were tidy. I travelled in rush times ( not rush hour, that has long gone) so I was on their services through normal timetabled train runs from 0630 to late evening. They returned a dividend to taxpayers unrivalled by any other TOC. When SWR took over things went downhill, fortunately I missed their unreliable service and very late arrival of new trains.
    It will be interesting indeed to see the Government run it as good as SWT, but how long are we talking before marked and sustainable improvements are made?
    If the present UK Government’s track record is anything to go by, it may not be in this term.

    Nationalised railways means if you don't use the trains you still pay through your taxes.

    • @intelligenceofacertainkind
      @intelligenceofacertainkind 2 месяца назад

      You could say the same about education. Millions of people don't have kids. Why should they pay for schools? Also healthcare. Millions of people don't get cancer. Why should they pay for the cancer treatment of other people? Or roads. Millions of people don't drive. Why should they pay for roads? Or law enforcement. Most people aren't victims of crime every day. Why should I pay for the police, courts and prisons for other people's justice?
      It's called living in a society. Economies of scale mean it's cheaper and more efficient to provide some things universally even if you rarely use it.

    • @VarissNI
      @VarissNI 2 месяца назад

      Your taxes still go to railways anyways, and A LOT more tax than it was. An approximate £60 billion more has been paid by the taxpayer than if we stayed under British Rail. If you want the source, have a watch of Channel 4’s Great British Railway Failures.

    • @chat4783
      @chat4783 2 месяца назад

      Explain paying 70 pound for a one way Ticket from Cardiff to Paddington. For people earning below this is absolutely expensive. It is basically indirect tax.

    • @VarissNI
      @VarissNI 2 месяца назад

      @@chat4783 It’s absolute extortion. Comments like the first are just people who are completely clueless to the actual day-to-day lives and operations of the railway, the taxpayer is getting a much worse deal than if we we had a privatised transport system. Even looking at the already nationalised operators, their ticket prices are on average 28% cheaper than a comparable journey on a privatised route, we can already see the results of a partially privatised system.

    The only solution to the U.K. rail industry problems is to bring in an external body from the far east, like Japan, Taiwan or even the CCP, to be given complete and direct control of the U.K. railways and aside from an initial (limited) amount of funding, any future funding and any bonuses would have to be performance-related and self-generated - the relevant laws would have to be passed in Parliament and all existing rail bodies would have to be abolished, all trade unions on the railways would have to be banned and any trade union leader advocating or attempting any rail strikes would have to be jailed - the objective would be to get standards of service up and fares down and any previously shelved or failed infrastructure projects (such as HS2) would have to be completed in half the time and for half the costs in order to gain any bonuses, which would have to be reinvested into the railways as a basic legal requirement, in the national interest

    • @seiwarriors
      @seiwarriors 2 месяца назад

      Not CCP as they will make it expensive. Taiwan or Japan would be fine.

    As far as I’m aware, it’s only in London that the over 60’s get free travel,if they travel after 9:30am. I live in the South West and I have to wait until I’m 67 years old. Surely the London arrangement should apply across the U.K,asap? Whether the Governments Public Ownership/Re nationalisation program will see train fares come down,significantly remains to be seen.
