One thing I should mention too. It’s better to use lenses with image stabilisation or vibration reduction on them to achieve sharper images for fast action bird and wildlife photography 📸🦅👍
I love those black rocks! I like your idea of not working from the edge of the water, staying back lets you get some of those rocks in some of your shots. Very nice! You got some nice shots as always! Thanks, Adrian!
Glad to hear others have asked about AF-C, because it has vexed me for...I'm ashamed to say how long. Thank you for clarifying how it works! And what a lovely birdwatching spot!

Amazing photographs Adrian and great advice on settings. Interesting facts about taking photographs of sea birds. Many thanks for sharing your work - big like from me :)
Great tips and video Adrian. Also, when tracking and shooting diving birds release the AF-on button just before they hit the water. This will prevent the camera for trying to focus on a large wave in the background.
Hi Adrian, amazing how many fantastic bird photos you got out, just while sitting at the same rock :) A great tutorial for bird photography and great photos. Have a great weekend, Christian
Birds, birds, birds YAY😀😀😀 Awesome video mate as always! Really loved the images, especially the seagull shot at 5:55! I was gonna upload a bird photography video as well this arvo but had to postpone for tomorrow. Hope you’re having a nice weekend mate!🐦😊
Thanks for watching Peter. Did you see we got shoved into a lockdown too? 😂 I could see that coming a mile away and got out a lot this week and filmed a heap of RUclips videos. At least I got something to edit now. Look forward to seeing your video mate. Have a great weekend 👍🙏📸
The main key I immediately noticed is that you sat down and stayed in one spot to give the animals time to get used to you being there and it paid off for you. You can take a video about seagulls and make it cool… man, I wished I could do that. Thanks for the tips on how to get sharp BIF photos too. I really appreciate it. 👍📸
Thanks for watching David. That’s a good point. Staying in one spot so any wildlife just gets used to you and realises you’re not a threat, then they come closer. Glad you enjoyed the video my friend, have a great week and take care 👍🙏📸
Great video Adrian! Sorry for the late comment, still trying to get caught up following my vacation. What a beautiful beach with those amazing black boulders! Wonderful backdrop as well with the different shades of blue in the sky and water. The shot at 5:55 and 7:38 were perfect! Nice on location trouble shooting of the focus issue. Really enjoyed this one mate. Hope you are doing well and keeping safe down there. Have a wonderful Sunday!
Thanks for watching Paul. How was the vacation? I bet you got a lot of videos done while you were away. Look forward to seeing them mate. Glad you enjoyed the vid. Yeah those black volcanic boulders is very much like Hawaii. They do make for some great sunrise shots there too. Have a great week and I'll see you next Saturday 👍🙏📸
Thanks for the tips. Last week I had some focus issues with Group-on and now know why, so switch to AF-C. I use a 200-500mm f/5.6 and wonder if I must set VR to normal or sport?
You could probably spend hours upon hours capturing birds and wildlife there. Great tips and you captured some wonderful images. I really like the shot of the seagulls at 4:32. Something very minimalistic about it! Have a great weekend.
Hi Adrian photos came out beautiful.👏📸 Have to try out using manual settings, I normally have it aperture priority using back focusing and it has worked ok but now seen your video and settings I definitely have to give it a try. Oh changing the subject congratulations to Australia 🇦🇺 on hosting the 2032 Olympics. Have wonderful weekend my friend. 🙏🏼👍📸
Thanks for watching my friend. Yes, my home city has the Olympics in 2032. Should be good for businesses especially the hospitality sector. Have a great weekend, take care 👍🙏📸
You captured some beautiful images there Adrian. I especially loved some of those seagull images midflight. Just beautiful. Now if I can just get some of these elusive owls here to get out of the shadows so I can capture a decent image ;) Cheers and enjoy your weekend!
Hi Rob, thanks heaps for watching. At least I don't have to get up before dawn to do some bird photography 😂 It's a pleasant change from doing the landscape side of things. Lucky the D850 is good for both. Glad you enjoyed the vid mate, have a great week and take care 👍🙏📸
Fantastic video with amazing shots Adrian also very important points such as group area and AF-C. The lock button is my nemesis always think the camera is broken, takes about 5min of calming down to realise the problem.
Excellent tips, many thanks. Also the dramatic musical score starting at 6 minutes felt rather like the soundtrack they'd play in one of those action movies as professional thieves get ready to pull off a big heist 😄
I have a lot of respect for you Adrian after recently expanding to bird photography due to the lock down. A lot of fun and frustration 😂 Great tips and some beautiful shots mate👌
Cheers Colin, thanks for watching mate. Did you see we've gone into lockdown too 😂 there'll be no country left to run soon if govts keep doing this! Really feel for those people with businesses effected. Have a great weekend mate and I guess you can also play with macro shots too in lockdown 👍🙏📸
Hi Adrian thanks for your videos which I find very helpful. Can I ask...when you use auto ISO 100-2000 what is your preferred way to avoid blow out on white birds and birds with white in them? Thanks, I'm still getting to know my new D850 and seem to be struggling with this a bit. Thanks
Thanks very much for watching. Appreciate your kind support for the channel. You can take the D850 out of auto ISO pretty quickly and drop your exposure down a couple of notches, or you can adjust the exposure compensation (+/- button) next to shutter so exposure goes down (no auto ISO). In darker environments set auto ISO from 100-6400. Cheers
Hi Adrian , thanks for all your tips for bird photography. One thing would like to know , that which lens u use with your Nikon D850 ?? Is it 200-500 mm ??
Many thanks for watching. I have the Nikon AF-S 80-400mm lens in this video. For birds and wildlife on a budget I recommend either the Nikon 200-500mm or the Tamron 150-600mm G2 lens. I have already done a review on the Tamron lens here: ruclips.net/video/66bSbjNuUGM/видео.html
Many thanks for watching, glad it helped you out. You're not a fool, it's just called learning. We all have to start somewhere and continual practice makes you better and better 👍🙏📸

Good information thank you. One suggestion for a future video, please show how to turn on AF Continuous

Hi Adrian, greetings from Brazil. Could you please tell us what your metering mode was for those shots?
Hello - it was the matrix metering mode
Thanks for the great tips, especially regarding the speed. I set my D850's speed to 1/1000 while shooting BIF. What a fool I am :(
Many thanks for watching, glad it helped you out. You're not a fool, it's just called learning. We all have to start somewhere and continual practice makes you better and better 👍🙏📸
