These 2 sentences are 2 different type of sentences . Be supposed to = somebody expected another to do something
But , was/ were going to... somebody planned to do something to do, but couldn't
But she explains as the two sentence are same meaning

I'm currently studying engineering & when I was in my 5th grade,there was a boy Johnny with me & he's still alive.What should it be said like. 1)There was a boy named Johnny in my class. or 2)There is a boy named Johnny who was with me when I was in 5th grade. I think both the two are correct.But because he's still alive,is the 1st one correct,the word "was" is being used. Please help me with this.
