Am I losing my mind or is this straight up taking a lot of scenes from Fears to Fathom Woodbury Getaway? The opening office and bathroom, the pizza restaurant, even in the driving scene, they were having the same conversation as Mike and Sydney about space.

This was def giving fears to fathom. Specifically the guy friend who has a weird obsession with the main character, the man who knocking and asking for help in the middle of the night. And the beginning of the game. Still very entertaining but basically copy and paste.

I see these games that are made like Fears to Fathom as fan made games with their own touch. There is a lot of them out there, some good some bad, but Fears to Fathom is the first of it's kind and more established.

I appreciate this upload but I’d have to agree with majority of the comments that say not only is this a rip-off of Rayll’s work, but it also does no justice to any real victims nor give them and their cases any respect.
At least with Fears to Fathom it is submissions sent in with consent and Rayll does not disrespect anyone involved by putting them or the killer out on display like rolling credits. He retells the story as it was given to him, no mockery.
This 616 game seems to be simply money grabbing with senseless rip-offs of Fears to Fathom and distasteful iterations of real-life events. It feels cheap and disrespectful with a ‘well here’s what actually happened’ at the end as if to pay homage to a horrid event.
The way you tell a story means a lot, especially when it includes real life people and tragedies. Their trauma is not entertainment even though that is what we’ve all become accustomed to due to mainstream media. Just because it is popular, doesn’t make it right.
I applaud Berlin for blurring the face towards the end at least.

As a person who watches true crime as read about this case, thank you berleezy for blurring his face. In no way does this creatures face need to be seen.
I honestly found it very distasteful that the game devs gave that epilogue including a photo and the accused media name. Both things we know for a fact now stimulate this kind of antisocial behavior. His name needs to not be said, his face not shown, and certainly no "stage name". They're making money off of these people's suffering, they can at least do their part to not glorify the actor/actions.

Maybe a different perspective, but maybe the victims wanted the exposure to help spread awareness about the disappearance/violence against indigenous women? I would hope since these are real stories, they at least donate and/or pay the victims who shared their stories, a portion of their profit.

@starrberrii I'll give you that, though I take these stories with a grain of salt. I have doubts that these stories are even real, let alone the Pineville Stalker story. Yes, it's based on a real serial killer, but I doubt that this is an actual account. If anything I see it as a dramatization of surviving a killer. I doubt the game dev made this series for fun at the expense of the victims, if that was the case Fears to Fathom would've been under fire a long time ago for making peoples trauma into games, even WITH permission.
HOWEVER, where I give people an olive branch to that argument, is Tales Beyond the Tomb: Farms Secret. That one was pretty blatant on who's account that was, there's no defending that one.

I work in a call center and use a high pitched voice not because I want to be cute, but because I’m nervous and it’s almost like playing a character. I’ve had multiple old guys go off about how I sound so sweet and ask about a boyfriend and ask about how I treat my boyfriend and weird stuff like that. They do it in person too when I work reception. They know that if I talk to my manager it’s very likely that my manager will brush it off and call them sweet old men. It’s still weird, I can tell the ones that do that are creepy. The sweet ones just say I’m doing a lovely job or give me sweet old people advice.

I will say, I absolutely do not like the idea that this game potentially took a real life case and made it into a game???? Hopefully they’re not monetizing off this? I more so like how the other game developers ask people for THEIR stories directly and incorporate it into a game, cause at least then we know this was approved by the primary source.

I've mentioned in another reply in this comment section that I feel like taking real life cases as inspiration can be fine so long as fiction is separated from reality, and the actual case and its victims are respected. I highly doubt that's what's happening here. I don't think the devs actually reached out to these families and asked for permission to make these stories. I also don't think that the money that the devs make from this goes to them. And to anyone that tries to say "Documentaries do the same thing! We need to crack down on those too if we're offended by *this!"*
Documentaries are for educational/informational purposes (...usually). They draw awareness. Video games are for entertainment. Yes, games may draw more awareness than a documentary, but at least a documentary does it slightly more tastefully.

Then later this game dev used the same source material but appropriately sourced? There's no way 616 didn't know about fears to fathom surely, they're in the same indi horror world.

This was actually based off the Golden State Killer. The name, crimes, and even the fact he was a police officer is the same. He was basically left uncaught for almost 50 years. The way they caught him was insane and revolutionary. They used DNA databases from stuff like Ancestry, 23andMe, etc. Y'all should look into it, crazy stuff.

hard to watch this series because 1. this is totally a rip-off of fears to fathom no matter how you put it. 2. its very weird to create games based on real life victims. what makes fears to fathom so enjoyable is that people send in their experiences at their own accord. ofc im gonna watch to support eezy but i feel its incredibly wrong to ignore the obvious copying happening
Part of me agrees with this, but...
The thing about creating games inspired by true events is generally acceptable (imo) so long as the content doesn't completely take away from the victims' stories or parody them. Fears to Fathom was not only enjoyable because the victims sent out the stories themselves (assuming all of them are in fact true accounts), but Rayll didn't parody or take away from the story. Think of a slasher film. The story/premise is usually heavily exaggerated and the characters feel like jokes. Fears to Fathom doesn't act like that, but Tales Beyond the Tomb does. Route 86, for example, had a pig-man killing goofy teens with axes and chainsaws. He felt exactly like a slasher villain, not like a real criminal.
What I'm saying is, I think works inspired by or based on true events are perfectly fine, so long as the victims and case are respected. (Not using the names of victims, their backgrounds, or really anything of their likeness, are examples of what you SHOULD do. You also shouldn't copy the case's events. Different locations, choices, and really even the killer's behavior can all also separate fiction from reality and prevent the story from feeling like it's mocking the case. That's what it boils down to-seperating fiction from reality.)
I absolutely agree with that first point, though. This is just Fears to Fathom 😭. Route 86 was different, at least. This is just copy and paste.

@noodlenood1570 Oh, make no mistake, regardless of what my comment implied, this game is still very questionable. There's no respect to anyone or anything involved with these cases. They literally just throw out faces of real people at the end (which thankfully Berlin knew better than to show). It's like a goofy slasher film with actors/actresses roleplaying as real victims. Of course the content is somewhat different, but no matter what, it's still disrespectful to a certain degree. Whether or not you believe this game brings awareness to these crimes, the platform that presents you the information should not be one of entertainment. That's why so many people were angry with that Dahmer documentary thing. It felt more like an entertainment piece than something educational/informational. It also doesn't help that... as we can all clearly see... It's ripping off of a game that actually respects victims and their stories (regardless of whether or not those stories are true).
