    Doing the homework/assignments is crucial to succeed in a math degree. Some math problems (at uni) can take days to solve, so it's important to stick with them and not give up. Review the lecture materials to make sure you understand everything that's asked in the assignment. Try to find similarities in lecture materials and the problem, and think how you can exploit it. If you don't see it right away, try to find examples for the situation of the problem. Trying to find different examples of things in math is one of the most important paths to understanding. Over time, you will expand your thinking and the mathematics you study will begin to appear natural.

    When I was in college, I took an engineering and physical science aptitude test administered by a State university.
    I scored very high, so you might think math would be very easy for me. I took quite a few math courses. I could do well if worked at them, but I had to work. I did not think math was easy compared to other courses. Too this day, I think achieving in math is a very significant accomplishment.

    I wanted to study mathematics but never got the opportunity and also I don't think so I have that acumen that mathematics study warrants. But I believe that when a nation has good mathematicians, it prospers and one solid example was USSR. It's very humble of you to say that you are an average kind of a person, but in reality one has to be very intelligent to pursue a career in mathematics. I watch most of your videos and like your book recommendations and reviews.

    Great video, I also wish I had tried harder to make more friends during University. I hope in the near future STEM can be better at developing communities and actually be engaging/captivating so we have a better future for scientific communities instead of the common occurances of egos taking over and causing a loss of interest for many people. I think there is something to say about that.

    I think that to truly be good at something you need to really dive in and go that extra mile. To finish an Ironman competition I had to workout every morning 7 days a week, no days off, go to work, come home and do school work, then set up for the next morning's workout. Rinse and repeat until you get to the finish line. Now if I could actually do as much math as you did I might get ahead in my math studies, but nope laying here watching RUclips, lol!

    Im still enduring lots of additions and regrouping additions and Place Value obsessively so far so good! But also kind of getting tired of counting higher numbers tho, but i should keep up with the positive attitude. As for the Place Value, Im still loving it too! 😇 Thank you once again sir! Please keep on inspiring us, God Bless always! Thank you so much!😇🤗👍👍

    When I took Calculus II, I would separate each topic and do them. After I did them, I would combine them and do them again, but in a different order. For example, I would separate the purely integration question from Series questions. After I completed all of the integration and series separately, I would them combine the questions and do them again in no particular order. Hope that makes sense. I like your method because it is similar to mine.

    Some people seem to think that succeeding in math is all about being smart enough to "just get it" without having to put any work in, and sometimes it gets a little aggravating. I feel like I'm being talked over when people start saying I must be really smart or a genius, and I try to explain that I'm not actually a genius, I just work hard and use good study techniques. Sure, being smart certainly helps, but I've always believed that math is more about hard work and perseverance than it is about raw, untrained intelligence.

    The approach to doing lots of problems reminds me of Donald Knuth’s college story where he said that he would do every problem in a textbook section, thus going beyond the homework sometimes. Sounds tough!

    I relate to this a lot
    I fell very behind in maths and was basically at a 8th grade level until I admitted to myself I wasn’t a “super genius” that could just pick things like that up easily as some other students could. I had to work really hard just to get up to Calculus 1 and I felt so proud of myself, until I ran into students who could pass Calc 1 in their sleep 😴

    • @lorax121323
      @lorax121323 Год назад

      Some does. Some doesn't. Calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, complex analysis, Fourier analysis have lots of known applications in physics and engineering, but it took literally centuries for many of those applications to be discovered. Some other topics, like homology, were actually first explored by people in other fields (biologists in this case) before they were taken up and formalized by mathematicians.
