    I'm so jealous, I wish I could've seen something like that. The closest thing I saw to that was when an A340-300 and A340-600 were flying together on one spring afternoon in 2013 similar to the air race in the video! Not to mention the 3rd plane in the beginning which I'm almost certain is an A330.

    A few years ago flying back to the UK from Mallorca , there had been a 4 hour delay due to hold ups in the UK . The pilot jokingly we thought , told us that " he'd had his foot down on the way over and would do so on the way back" to try to make up some time . When the plane had achieved its cruising altitude there was no sign of engines being throttled back and the journey time was cut by 20 /25 minutes . So I guess its a matter of fuel economy rather than speed not actually a race .

    @pgergely13 They are in fact not flying the same flight level,standard separation is 1000ft vertically, and the reason why the contrail seems to last longer on the higher and faster airplane, is because the temperature is about 2 degrees Celsius colder where the faster higher altitude airplane is located. Therefore, the ice crystals from the vapor jetting out of the engines, take longer to melt and dissipate, as compared to the lower, slower airplane.

    Looks like they are close and it might be true. But they have different flightlevel. Minimum in this case is 175 meters because planes have the same flightcourse.

    • @sailorman8668
      @sailorman8668 5 лет назад

      Why do you mention a metric measurement of '175 meters'. Aircraft use feet as their vertical height.
      Incidentally, the required minimum vertical separation in this situation is 1000 feet, which is around 300 meters - where did you get '175 meters' from?

  • @ultragor
    @ultragor 12 лет назад

    @kidcaptian Look carefully at 1:16; the two planes and contrails are IDENTICAL in size and they're practicly touching each other! Even if they are 2000 feet apart, the FAA standards state a two-mile minimum distance vertically at cruising altitude.

    Only military aircraft can fly in that close proximity. Having priority airspace. all other traffic has to be diverted to avoid chemtrail aircraft that do not file a flight plan. it's more efficient flying in pairs while being less hazardous and stressful for air traffic controllers.

    No they are not close at all. They will have about 1000ft of vertical separation.
    The appearance of being close is an illusion due to the use of a zoom lens and our unfamiliarity with the perspective of very distant objects.
    Take some photos of two objects at a distance from each other with with different zoom settings, and move the camera so that the closest object appears the same size in frame in both cases. Notice how the appearance of the second object changes greatly
