    That clap back about babies was perfect. And in so many cases people just have them because they’ve been socialized to think it’s just what you do after getting married. Growing up I always heard “oh wait until you have kids” from so many adults like it wasn’t a choice. When I was 14 I realized I did have a choice and I’m 53 now and have never regretted my decision. I do know parents who have though. Who were told a fairy tale of cute babies but never the part about raising a respectful, caring, self-sufficient human being who *surprise* have their own personalities and aren’t just a cookie cutter blend of each parents best traits (which they believe just becomes part of the baby in utero).
    The number one question I get is “who will take care of you when you’re older?” Wow…and I’m supposedly the selfish one? I would not put that burden on my child who could live across the country. Or even a different country with their own family to care for. Nurses will care for me and when I die I’ll have friends and family around me that I didn’t expect to drop their lives to care for mine. Not to mention the number of adult children and parents who don’t have close or happy relationships with each other. It’s the hardest most important job in the world. And they don’t owe you anything. They didn’t ask to be here. You wanted them, you should not hold the hopefully good life you gave them as a trade off. I’m happy more people understand what an undertaking it is. And it’s ok to choose a different path. While enjoying being an aunt or uncle or even better volunteer as a Big Brother or Sister. To help children missing a mom or dad.
    Too bad in America they’re banning health/sex education and abortion rights. So the teen pregnancy rate will sky rocket. Even with the Internet people don’t know how their own reproductive organs work. That’s pretty damn important! And the parents rarely teach them or even know the facts. Many think the classes are about sexual positions/how to have sex. It’s about protecting (consent) and educating about std’s that can kill. But the fear and ignorance of adults just gets passed on to the next generation. Purity culture ruins people. They get married fast and young to have sex. Then are incompatible or don’t know how to make love. But I doubt anyone will read this.😅

      Hi, I am just getting this out here so you don’t have to respond, but I want to share some of my experiences with you because I like your philosophy. I am currently a teenager with a disabled and older mom (she has mental illnesses and a physical disability) who herself had a less than ideal up bringing. I sometimes feel like I have to be a doormat for her because the services she receives often, how do I put this, behave unempathically and don’t serve her well. It’s gotten to the point where I sometimes get angry because I feel like I have to be the parent to her when the roles should be switched.
      I am not looking for advice, so you don’t have to give any, to me you seem like the type to find others anecdotes educational. (I would say you seem like a kindred soul, but I feel that’s too personal since the only things I know about you are through this comment 😅) I hope you will take this reply as food for thought, and that it doesn’t poison your thoughts instead.

      It's sad how much pressure gets put on healthcare frontliners so that they're overworked, short-staffed, burned out, and still the best we got in so many situations. It affects the quality of care when I see so many trained nurses, vet techs, and EMTs start looking at a twelve hour factory shift because it's less stressful and less people are willing to go through college for a career that they may not stay in more than five years on average. We keep saying that we're going to find a good nursing home for our childless aunts as well as parents when they need it, since they were all good to us, but that's always easier said than researched and paid in this country.

      "Who will take care of you?" Really good question. I chose to not have children as did both my sisters, probably because of our mother being schizophrenic. Turns out i am the carer for my younger sis who developed late-onset schizophrenia... The number of people who told me, "You don't have to take care of her" was stunning, not to mention one brother flat out telling me he wouldn't help and the 2nd brother asking, AFTER 12 years, if i "needed any help". The reason i DO have to take care of her is a moral reason: she is my sister and i will not let her be homeless. The sad fact is, she will likely die before i do, so i do my best to guve her a safe place to be. I thoroughly appreciated your sharing your beliefs.

      My late grandmother had 4 children.
      Two of them moved to another country far away ( my mom and my aunt ) and the two sons who lived practically next to her on HER estate put her into a nursing home ( cuz neither of them nor their wives wanted to care for her, despite being already retired ) where she caught the flu and died within a few months.
      Now her 4 kids are scrapping over the property. 😑

      I read it. Whenever I skinned a knee or stubbed a toe, I heard “It’ll heal by the time you’re married.” Born 1953, NO instruction even about my own body. “Started” at 11. Out of 3 daughters, we were all pregnant before we left high school. #1, baby died after 3 days, mother finished hs at adult classes. #3 miscarriage while running away, sepsis, almost died, GED. I was “lucky”. Married my rapist/narcissist at 3 months gone, divorce, 2 elective abortions to save my daddy’s disappointment, married again, home birth now won’t speak to me. Daddy did help getting me a BA I never used. Too fkkkking broken to function. I despair of this country ever being right. I’m gonna sort of be ok. Married #3, narcissist I have learned to defeat after 25+ years of bullying. Better off alone, but this is MY house, I helped build it. There isn’t a crowbar big enough to get me out. Learned I am autistic & schizoid personality disorder. NOT EVERYONE IS MEANT TO PARENT. Because of the institutionalized IGNORANCE in America, I never had a chance to be a research librarian or something that I could do, do well and prosper in some modest way. And the hell my children had to go through. Lucky neither of them became addicted to drugs. I enjoyed your comment very much. Wish I could have been so wise at 14. 💛

      Thinking back to Boy Scouts, 20 years ago.
      I was about 16 when we got a new kid named George, probably 12. George was what most people would see as a problem child. A bit bratty, selfish, couldn't focus, wasn't always respectful or attentive. Nothing really bad or dangerous, but he was always being a bit of a problem.
      How did we treat him? Like any other normal kid - because George's mother had already had him tested, knew he was slightly ADHD and had told our unit leaders that. We knew that George just needed a little special treatment. Give him a little time, patience and closer supervision and he was fine.
      His problem was that he was JUST ADHD enough to come across as a brat (or an asshole in adulthood), without coming across as clearly mentally different.. Even at that young age, many adults just assumed he was just a bratty kid and treated him like that. He was right in an unpleasant sweet spot.
      I haven't been in contact with him since then. Sometimes I wonder how he's doing in life.

    Whoever wrote the first one (pre-response) should remember that not even boys can be drafted now since the draft was ended in 1980 (44 years ago), long before memes and text messages became a "thing", so must have been posted long after the draft ended.

    • @irrelevantduckfan4413
      @irrelevantduckfan4413 6 месяцев назад +6

      While technically correct that there is no current draft, all men aged 18 to 25 are required to register with the Selective Service System. The sole purpose of the SSS is to administrator a draft should one be deemed necessary. So, in effect the poster was correct. As a female who is also a veteran I believe either every person 18 to 25 should be required, or no one should be. I don't agree that the lack of requirement either way should be a basis for telling someone to shut up and sit down though.

      The point that @hellokittyangel211 was making is that a lot of people with "the door closed" still got the same people "not paying attention". Of course people need to recognize consent, but shorts in hot weather or tight sports clothes aren't consent. So, how did that not relate to your point?

    • @thehistoryteen9323
      @thehistoryteen9323 2 месяца назад

      I'm not fully certain what your point here is. Yes, neither are giving consent. But, the "door closed" is fully on the perp and nothing the victim did was wrong. With the "not paying attention" that can be partly fixed by the victim choosing to be more conscious of what they wear and how they act. So, they are, as I said, two different scenarios that do not relate enough. But either way, the real fault, as I think all can agree, is the perp being stupid.

    Every time someone declares what a wonderful country U.S.A is, I think about how I pay nothing for my doctor appointments because my employer has a worker insurance which allows me to have even a year of psychotherapy for free if I get too stressed in my work.
    Good luck for an American worker to get that.

    • @IdRatherBeDiving-vr5gk

      I'm in the US and I have the same kind of health plan from my employer: I pay zero for visits, zero for any kind of procedures, hospital stays, etc. And I get free psychotherapy also, if I want it. I think it costs my employer around $1000 a month. Ironically, I don't get sick or injured, I've used my benefits for a routine check maybe once every five years or so. No psychotherapy either, life is pretty good.
      Many people in the US have this kind of health coverage, but we never hear from them because we only hear from the people that complain.

      No, many do not have health plans like yours. But I am old enough to remember when the majority of American workers USED to have full coverage plans like that, plans fought and gained for employees through our unions bargaining with employers for it. But then Republicans conned people into believing unions are evil entities and we should just trust our employers to do the right thing. 😂Guess what? Employers will squeeze every penny out of your pocket to keep one in their own and soon, employee paid health coverage (with huge deductibles) became the norm.
      May I suggest you step outside of your bubble and talk to people (that aren't your fellow employees)?
      Ask them if they have employer paid healthcare like yours. I think you're in for a very rude awakening.

    • @IdRatherBeDiving-vr5gk
      @IdRatherBeDiving-vr5gk 6 месяцев назад +3

      @@mikes5637 Yeah, that's a fair argument... shouldn't need coverage from an employer. But that $1000 a month wouldn't be in my pay. If the government was paying for universal coverage, the money would have to come from somewhere. So the government would have to collect the funding, probably in the form of a tax on either businesses or individuals or a combination of both. Which means that $1000 would end up going to the government -- either directly from my employer or after it was paid to me and then I paid it to the government as tax -- so it could then be used to pay for the cost of universal health care.
      My response was mostly to the last line of the original post: "Good luck for an American worker to get that." My point was that many American workers do have the deal they described, but most people don't hear about it because no one complains about having a good situation.
      As for the debate over the current US healthcare system vs that of other countries: the most important consideration in all debates of this nature is a simple, inflexible rule that nothing is free. Everything is paid for somehow by someone. Healthcare isn't free in European countries, it's paid for by the government which pays for it with taxes... paid by the citizens who are getting the healthcare (that they are paying for).
      The US system is certainly less efficient than most European health care systems: our US healthcare system costs -- overall -- about $13,000 per person in the US (i.e. we spend about $4.4 trillion annually on our healthcare system), while European governments spend around $6000 to $9000 per person. Part of this is culture (people in the US need more healthcare because we're unhealthy) and part of it is structural (there's a LOT more administrative work in US healthcare... probably way too much).
      From a purely economics perspective, universal healthcare is the way to go because it's much more efficient... cuts out all that needless administrative work that we pay for. But it's the political perspective that matters when it comes to making decisions for the country, and that's often not as logical as economists.
