Taking an old home (stick built or mobile home) and redoing it so it is a livable home and doing it as you can afford reminds me of my father when I was a little girl (I'm 73) - he took an old home that was a ratty old place, cleaned it up, tore down old barns, took nails out to reuse the wood -- ALL without nail guns, electric saws, and drills - just hammers, screwdrivers, hand saws, etc. to build a home for his wife and children -- years it took to redo the home (They had to put a box fan on layaway), and it wasn't luxurious, but it was warm, and we were blessed. These new homesteaders might have more tools, but they work hard to build good warm homes for their families. KUDOs to you all. The work ethic is not dead yet.
Hello Sam, Wow, dude hard work I see, When I had my Mobile home in Connecticut I had a leak in our kitchen and it would drip always in our sink. when I dug into it a bit more, I realized that I needed a roof much sooner than I expected, I knew it needed a roof but I thought I had a bit more time before I had to replace it, but nope no such luck, so I had a flat roof and I put a 6/12 pitch roof on with 2X6 construction 12" on center for the trusses and I used 1" OSB treated plywood and did it right over kill I know, but we do have big snowstorms in Connecticut and it is always that heavy wet snow, so we wanted it to be super strong and to be able to take the weight of the heavy snowstorms that we get there, and it turned out great and it was super strong overkill actually, thanks to my friend who is older but has been roofing for over 45 years he helped me out, great guy. I just wanted to let you know that you're doing a good job in your renovation, keep the videos coming we love them. till next time best regards from your new friends in Lima Peru George & Carmen
If you weren't able to do the maintenance and renovations yourself than perhaps it would be better to build or purchase something. But, you are able to do most if not all of the work yourselves so , in my opinion, it is definitely worth the $ spent, and effort invested. You just have to do what is best for you and your family.
I have been watching you for several months. I truly admire your persistence at improving your old mobile home, turning it into a very nice, functional home for your family. It is admirable and draws my profound respect--far more than for a person with $$$ sufficient to build a McMansion with no soul. My hat is off to you and your delightful and hardworking partner and children. Thanks for letting us ride along with you. It is a gift.
I work with a nonprofit that does home repairs for low income homeowners. More than half are in old mobile homes. Your channel is my go-to resource for teaching myself and volunteers. Thanks for great videos a d explanations!
I have a 1990 liberty mh. The original mh gutters are a joke 😠. I went with a tin roof with 6" overhang. You're doing a fine job and I'm sure it'll be beautiful when done. 🖖
Great job and hang in there..........you are going to have a awesome roof and much better sealed home when you are done. Kudos to you for hanging in there......it is difficult to get that type of thing done alone and a pain of a job no matter what type of home we have. The joy's of being a home owner! I think you are doing a great job! Blessings
Wow Sam, that was a lot of hammering and pushing/pulling! I love how you are determined to do things, and thanks for not making it seem easier than it really is! Hat's off to you! Awesome work, keep it up!
Not Boring at all. I am sure this is very helpful to anyone who has a mobile home. I do not have a mobile home, but I always find what you have to say to be either informative, funny, or helpful to know. No Worries. I still have to borrow a computer once in a while so I can catch up on watching your videos. Take care & God Bless.
I was wondering when you were going to realize that the gutter system was part of the roofing. My neighbors roof blew off during a storm not to long ago because someone had cut them off her home..be careful
I truly feel for you Sam. That had to be more frustrating than you showed us. You do an awesome job clearly explaining what you encounter on every vlog you carry us on. Appreciate you and Angela both! I enjoy learning new things and y'all are a great together. (I guess y'all already figured that out a long time ago.) 😊
Thank you. It was tedious for sure. I wish I could find a quicker solution. I guess I have time to figure it out as I work on the rest of the guttering removal. Lol Thanks for the kind words
I am glad you showed us the process, as well as the gutter screw situation because it makes sense as to what I'm dealing with here. THANK you very much. Stay safe!
Well Sam you have learnt a little bit more about your mobile/static home construction, so on the other side before you re-roof it get those gutters of first, remembering to replace the screws as you go to hold the roof on before you re-sheet, I take it you are going to install/secure some kind of box section under the new eaves for you to attach the new guttering system, this box section will also help to hold the roof down if fastened to both the side and overhang.
When improving of any kind, lots of times you have to "undo" before you can "redo." You're doing it right, and it will pay off this winter and years to come!
You are so right! Demo is everywhere... wait... if that’s the case this is Angela’s specialty!!! 😱 I was tricked! 😎 I’m begging her to at least make a cameo appearance in the next roof video.
you were right its "down the rabbit hole" . Im happy to see you again Sam and your lovely homestead . I nearly missed seeing you and your family again , nearly went to bed then just caught sight of y our vid and stayed to watch .

It was a little eye opening when you paused when the Light Bulb went off in your mind about your roof could fly off in a huge wind, if you keep taking out all those short screws!! Guess you should put a few long ones back in there for right now. Projects can be boring to accomplish but you keep plugging away. Good got you. See you next time.
YAY for getting-r-did! A neighbor put a roof on his mobile home, after he added on a den to the back then, enclosed it all with brick so it now looks like a brick home to the unlearned eye. He puts his mobile home permit sticker on a window at the back of the house where no one can see it. Looking forward to the next one! Tell your Mrs. and the boys I said hi. I love you guys! XOXOX

We had that same fun with my tin gutters as well!! love my vinyl siding and normal gutters! I couldn't do a roof add on because of weight so still have the metal/sealed roof...oh well : /
Wow that is hard work my friend, amazing! I use to work on construction before I retire and I never see this before... I seen metal roof this is more like just a metal sheet cover, wow... nice job tho ✌️✌️👍👍👍

I've seen other people that added a roof take and flatten the gutter down but now that you got one side off did you.think about fully removing the metal off the roof wouldn't it have been easier for placing the plywood on directly?

Your lucky,as my roofing gutters have way more screws to be pulled out but then again maybe I'm lucky having the more screws, maybe that means my roof is secured on better who knows as it still makes to much noise durring wind storms lol nice job your doing however 👍😆😊...
Couple of questions, did you put a roof on top of the existing roof and why didn't you take them off before putting the new roof on? Thanks, love the channel.
As we say in our neck of the wood "that is one pig of a job" and your not complaining !!! I would be cursing all the way !! your mask is very impressive can i ask where you got it ? I would like to get one for my son , keep on keeping on !!
Sure, it’s a RZ M2 Mesh Mask and I got it from amazon a while back-few years ago. I use it in the workshop mostly since it’s a good fine filter and very comfortable. Lowes Home Improvement sells them locally here if you have one close by. They have replaceable filters inside too.

Just graduated the school of roofologists. Hee hee it’s the rabbit hole. Would it have been easier to have done that before you put the new wood down. I’m just trying to learn.
I know this is after the fact, but would that cut off tool you are using to cut the gutter cut the screws too? I’m asking for me too. I’ve been wanting to get one.
Maybe with a good titanium or carbide blade. I wondered that myself a lot through this. LOL Maybe I’ll pick one up and give it a shot. I worry they may burn up quick but don’t know for sure either. 🧐
Rabbit hole although what we have in the San Joaquin Valley is a lot of ground squirrels that when the move in with their cousins, aunts and uncles they leave a lot of holes. At the school where I work its like walking through a mine field. I need to check out your cap nail gun. I had to use a hammer and nail and it was a work out.
With the land that you have is it not possible to have a brick house. I'm in the UK and don't see mobile homes on people's property. Are you able to add onto the home ie a craft room for Angela. I know you have made space for her soaps but to have a complete room or school room that you can just close the door at the end of the day.
johanna most of it comes down to money. I’ve never lived in a mobile home but many people in the US do. They even have mobile home “parks” where one after the other is permanently installed. It’s just a cheaper way to live for some people.
Speaking for ourselves, it's possible to do brick, but masonry work is not fun at all, haha. Building with lumber is so much quicker, easier, and cheaper :)
Maybe I didn't understand this properly (or at all) but when you come to do the front can you just leave the hex screws in? That would have felt like a "wish I hadn't started this" kind of thing, but you'll be happier when the wind blows!!!
Oh no / don’t let the roof blow off 😱. Hot metal , sticky stuff , rain coming -- you’ve had a rough day !😢. Watch out, Angela- Sam has gone all caveman now 😳❤️🤣 Enjoy your dinner and stay safe 😘🙏
It sure is more work. I’m taking it off because it’s right where I will be coming back to attach the eaves to the home to support the plywood overhangs we added.
@@sam-and-angela I wondered at the time whether the eaves could have been fitted around the gutters , as you say it sure looks like a lot of hard work to remove .
Rabbit trail / rabbit hole........ was that an argument???????????? Boy howdy! I think it was!!!!!!! Thank you..... and by the way.... rabbit hole. You should just make a rambling video. That is the hardest I have laughed in awhile. Yea I know, I am boring. But hey, I got ramblin rose to keep me company. Keep ramblin.
It's Rabbit HOLE ...because as you go down the hole, you don't know were each turn is gonna take you..on a rabbit TRAIL you can see were your going..get it?

I love how you have taken what you already own and are renovating instead of replacing it.
