My brother has deadly food allergies and when my family was informed of this when he was around a year old, the doctors gave me a fake epi pen for me to practice on him in case I was the one who needed to administer it. He’s 3 years younger than me so I was around 4 when this happened. It was very valuable for me to know that even as a young kid, I could save his life if I ever needed to. He is now 20 and has never needed to use one but he still always carries one.
When working as a camp counselor, we had to practice using epi pens on each other with fake ones before we started work every year. Never had to use it, but I did have to lecture a parent that their kid couldn’t be in my class after telling me she was allergic to cats and dogs. I worked with farm animals, and the kid was sneezing like crazy a few yards away from the animals.

Part of what drives independent research for therapeutic alternatives is fear of the condition and the standard of care. Also provides a sense of control where the patient feels its been stripped away.

Dr mike, the boost o2 is intended to be used at high altitudes where oxygen is at a much lower density. Granted I’d never buy that particular brand personally, but when flying at high altitudes in a non pressurized environment or mountain climbing at a high altitude, the canned o2 can be extremely helpful and even life saving!
I can vouch for this, moving from Florida to Colorado. Sea level to 10k is brutal, I was altitude sick for a week. 0:12 (i learned this in middle school) first of all, you yawn because your brain is noticing your breathing slower or not enough so you yawn to take in more air. but to get to the point, yawns are contagious because when you see another person yawn your brain freaks out thinking that YOU yourself aren’t getting enough oxygen, causing yourself to yawn 👍

As a scuba diver who has had a close call with the bends. That oxygen is gold. For those who don't know oxygen is the first treatment given for the bends. I dive out in cold isolated lakes, so an ambulance can take up to an hour or more to get to my team and me. Those bottles help buy us some time.
Sure, but you shouldn't abuse it. The way this is sold leads to people doing 3 situps, inhaling a bottle of pure O2, doing a couple situps, inhaling another bottle, repeat ad nauseam (literally).
I live in Colorado where the air is thinner than other places, so when I go to a concert and see musicians perform who aren’t from our altitude, the well prepared musicians come with different oxygen boosting capabilities to help combat the altitude. I’ve seen nebulizer type devices, to these cans of boost. Yes they can be abused by idiots but to completely dismiss it by saying there is oxygen all around. Idk.
@@Eromadad88also in Colorado, we keep some on hand for visitors from out of state. My partner has pretty severe asthma, too, so a bottle of pure oxygen and their inhaler are an excellent addition to a hike.
Same. I live in Colorado Springs and those things can come in handy for short-term relief at high altitudes, to give people enough time to get back down to lower altitudes.

1:19 I'm very familiar with this thing. I used to live together with someone who had diabetes for many years. He passed away this year because he had no one around to inject it into him. We only lived together for 4 years, but he's been like an older brother to me. And he only became 21 years old. I've attended the funeral. I cry almost every day, but that was one of the few times in my life when I cried for hours without being able to keep the tears inside like I usually do when I'm in public. I miss him.
7:45 I think that could be in reference to what is happening with the teacher shortage. A lot of places are offering speed programs or simply not requiring degrees for teachers. It seems like a problem in a lot of unappreciated professions right now.
Isn't the Oxygen to go thing normally for people that go up to places with thinner air, but aren't accustomed to it? Like if you visit your aunt that lives in a town in a large mountain, then if you try to do the same exercise that you normally do, you will get out of breath much faster due to less oxygen in the air. These would basically let you get a boost of oxygen to keep you going more comfortably. It's a really niche product thought, since the people that live up there are already used to it and don't need it, and so it's only useful for visitors or newcomers. It's useless for anyone else anywhere else.
That reminds me of a story I heard Tom Cruise told in a show. He went on a tiny plane with a friend. But they encountered issue and they were only 2 oxygen mask. Tom Cruise and the pilot took the mask. Tom Cruise's friend fall asleep. He woke up when they returned to the ground.
I need oxygen wherever I go so carry portable oxygen with me. I have use of only 1 lung and my O2 is always 50 or lower no matter where I am. I also have to sleep sitting up.

I once had to stop seeing a GP because no matter what time of day I scheduled an appointment, I would have to wait at least an hour before I even got back to the exam room where I would have to wait even longer. It was consistently ridiculous.
My family GP would cancel our appointments right as we were sitting in the waiting room. Happened so many times. Eventually, we stopped going because he never had time to see us and would reschedule only to cancel at the last minute once again

You actually can't determine which arm is in the x-ray at 2:53 because the x-ray slides can be flipped before putting them in front of the light, which is why x-ray technicians have to label them L or R, so without a visible L or R then you can't know which side it's from
Hey Mike! I thought yawning had to do with mirror neurons and the Broca region… Your comment about it actually made me go explore a few different studies and most of them say there is no specific activity in the Broca region when people watched another person yawn. I just saw the documentary on the New Zealand volcanic eruption of 2019. Could you go over how to treat volcanic ash/burn injuries and what happened to the body during this?
That one was so sad! This would be a good topic, though. It might be worth a collab with a volcanologist to discuss ways to maximize chances of survival and minimize injuries in a pyroclastic flow, including typical scorching hot air flows, violent surges, and steamy eruptions like the one on White Island (I forget its real name). It would be interesting and horrifying to know why so many victims succumbed to burns so quickly after remaining conscious for minutes or hours. What caused the internal parts of their bodies to shut down?
Dr. Mike probably won’t see this but I just want to thank him. I’ve always had an interest in healthcare and medicine but Dr. Mike fueled that interest even more. Next fall I will begin my first semester of pre-med and I’m incredibly stoked for it. I hope to be as great a doctor as Dr. Mike some day.
7:05 - Those foods have all those things Dr. Mike mentions. The pizza and burger have tomatoes, the cake has nuts, the burger has onions as do some pizzas.
10:46 Dr. Mike correction, that is actually carbogen (95% Oxygen + 5% Carbon dioxide) which is used to treat patients who have been a victim of Carbon Monoxide poisoning, which is a very deadly gas. This is a portable way to give treatment to someone who has inhaled Carbon Monoxide.
@ 9:47 I think it's more of a distrust of authority figures for some people. Also, trying to be proactive when it comes to researching and taking care of your health. For example, a relative has pancreatic athrophy and for the longest time we didn't know the cause. Recently she got a book written by someone who has the same illness, and brought up some of the tests that was mentioned. It's all about trying to stay educated about what you have. (edit: put the time stamp)
We kids would play with that coil toy thingy while waiting in the waiting room at the eye doctor. So fun. I eat the rind of a watermelon. It's amazing.

It was a very fulfilling career I had to retire from bedside nursing at 40 and I became a case manager, and worked another 25 years and still working part time now doing chart review for Medicaid don’t forget that’s nurses we really help the doctors out a lot and I loved working with the patients watching them get to the height of their abilities to get back to taking care of themselves. Ok so... with the oxygen... idk how it works for exercise because I don't do that, BUT back when I lived in CO, we always suggested newbies to get some because it helped with altitude sickness. even if u eating sodium bomb, dont be shy to include some vegetables, cuz its like m&m's bomb(Empty calories).
7:15 I see he avoided saying apples. like a doctor
6:47 my daughter got a knitted hat with a green pompom when she was born, the pompoms were coloured to show the babies heath, green was for healthy and red was for babies at higher risk
Wow that kinda sounds sad
Mine got a knitted hat that was a pumpkin born in October instead of the normal hospital one they give
😆
The "purchase one mental health" legit made me LOL.
@@Eromadad88 I moved from about 600 ft elevation to Colorado, and ended up with bronchitis in my first couple weeks. I really wish those things had been available then, I was having a lot of trouble breathing. Closest I found was a huge one mean to have at your table at a convention, so people visiting from sea level would stick around your booth so they could breath.
Lol he missed the clone joke about "That makes two of us." Completely over Dr. Mike's head. 😂❤
Dr Mike is the human embodiment of medical dad jokes 😂
11:20 it’s for altitude where it’s harder to breath
8:49 yes, the reason you can't surf without a head is because you lack the balances in your semicircular ear canals.

Dr. Mike figuring out colors made my day 2:37
Loved the alphabet soup, so true with scribbles for doc writing, ramen noodles perfectly illustrate 😂😂😂 .... I had a family practitioner who typed everything out on computer and printed it off because he knew his handwriting was horrible
Wow
I didn't get it
Same thing with doctors signatures. My uncle is an ER doctor and his signature is just one big scribble
I worked in a pharmacy for a year and a half, and we had a handful of local doctors who had very neat handwriting. It was bizarre.
@@stephsaguudefan1753it would be. I just wouldn’t feel right if a doctor wrote legibly
@@jasminespencer2872 basically, kids write more neatly, so alphabet soup, ramen noodles is more wavy, and since we're talking about handwriting, its basically about how bad doctor's handwriting are. hope u understand
8:54 Dr. is channelling his inner 'Mama Mia' complete with the hand gesture in regards to the 'art' if the meme😂
10:55 I believe this is for hiking on realy tall mountains
I think he went over in another video why it was still bs, pretty sure it was the video where he reacted to medical products on Shark Tank
I miss him.
He will always be with you. I also lost my grand pa to diabetes. And I know how you feel
2:32 I'm glad Dr. Mike explained this, because I was never gonna get that on my own.
Hearing Sam laughing from the background fulfills the meme video.. I love how Mike misses the punchline more often than not lol.
you copied two other people’s comment what the hell
I love how Dr. Mike is most often serious about the jokes, like me. I ruin a lot of my husband's humor because I'm so committed to being serious lmao
This is the issue. There are very limited applications of this, yet they're trying to market it to a general audience using bullshit.
@@seigeengine I mean I dont hear any crazy claims(bs) from them
Ski resorts in Wyoming and Colorado sell oxygen for people are coming from sea level. Some people say they feel a “high” and use it for that.
3:51 - I think Mike missed the whole 'Pharmacology punch' :)
Business as usual, lol
I am actually a pharmacist 😂😂😂 and that’s so fkn true pharmacology and pharmaceuticals and anything related to pharmacy is so fkn hard 😂😂😂
No he said that the school was punching them right back
1:45 that a river of apples

Ah yes, healthy food.
Healthy: Tomatoes, Lettuce, Cheese, Meat for protein, Bread
So why the heck are burgers unhealthy-
See, nothing is unhealthy if you put your mind to it
The meat has a lot of grease which has a lot of saturated fats.
Extremely high fat and salt content. Both are things we need, but many people eat way too much of them. That's the simplest answer.
Dude- it would be so crazy to have Dr. Mike walk into an appointment for therapy with you. It would be such a challenge to stay unbiased because hes so awesome… i’d probably have to refer him to a therapist who doesn’t know him (at least not an avid fan) for the best care, but i would be so sad that i would have to.
Can we take a moment to apprecete how much effort Dr Mike puts into his videos
no
@P!nned By Dr Mike... you’re not doctor mike lol😂
He's sitting there reacting to memes that someone else collected for him to look at, and then someone edits the video. The effort is all done by someone else. Give them appreciation
Thank you Dr Mike's team..

I don't dispute that. I'm simply pointing out that for Dr. Mike, these videos are low effort. The equivalence of us watching his video. The effort is made by others. He's the pretty face.
7:15 last week I had an 11:30 appointment for a check up. As of a couple days before the appointment, they had no other booked appointments. The doctor arrived at 12:03, the check up lasted 11 minutes
The canned oxygen is actually very useful when hiking at high elevations. It’s a little gimmicky, but it helps with altitude sickness
Oh, Dr Mike, you dropped the ball on the "Air to Go". Two words: cluster headaches

I forget if that's an actual line, but that doctor had enough sarcasm I could see it being one. (It's been awhile since I've watched all the way through Voyager). Star Trek's always done some of their best work with their doctor characters.
You actually can't determine which arm is in the x-ray at 2:53 because the x-ray slides can be flipped before putting them in front of the light, which is why x-ray technicians have to label them L or R, so without a visible L or R then you can't know which side it's from
but that would assume that the doctor intentionally put it up the wrong way.
I love how he corrects everything despite how obvious it is. Also how he focuses on ears rather than the brain when missing a head
7:57 Snails hate coffee and it's harmful to them. Do not give your pet snail coffee or anything with caffeine in it. 👍
Hey Mike! I thought yawning had to do with mirror neurons and the Broca region… Your comment about it actually made me go explore a few different studies and most of them say there is no specific activity in the Broca region when people watched another person yawn. They say it’s somehow an automatic response.
Just wanted to say that I love watching your videos because it often pushes me to go look for good sources of information. So I always learn something new and am able to read and get new points of view on things :)
5:30 brought me back to when I found an x-ray picture of my lungs on my folder, it looks exactly like case b. She said I had pneumonia when I was a baby. The brown folder where it was saved said the x-ray was taken when I was 5 year old
Mike that ain’t the grim reaper, that be ghost face 9:17
4:35 Think they're talking about a drugs scientific name, not the reference name. Like how Xanax is actually Alprazolam or Aspirin is acetylsalicylic acid.
That's awesome! Congrats 🎉
7:05 - Those foods have all those things Dr. Mike mentions. The pizza and burger have tomatoes, the cake has nuts, the burger has onions as do some pizzas.
7:04 Those he named are spherical not rounded like the ones in the picture! 😎
I can't wait until I get married and my wife gets pregnant so when she says "Noah, I'm pregnant" I can say "Hi pregnant, I'm DAD!!"
8:18 when i got the HPV vaccine i couldn't remember what it stood for so i just called it "human pepperoni virus"

They need more oxygen because they're not used to the thin air. Then after moving away from CO, I once had to buy some when I took a road trip to MD to help with altitude sickness so........ 👀😬🙃
It also helps with asthma too. It helps you recover better than steroids do.
Dang my first thought was the lorax, maybe that says something about me
When covid started I once joked about bottled oxygen, lo' and behold
Same! Moved from Florida to Colorado, in the 10k range. Man I was Soo altitude sick till I found out about Air...
Except they’re in Arizona, and it’s advertised for post workout recovery, not for altitude sickness. Arizona has high spots but not as much as Colorado does. Unless you’re planning on hiking up some mountains or traveling to Northeastern AZ, it’s just a waste of money.
