Not a Texas native here, just here working, and everything he said about Buc-cee’s is 100% accurate. I don’t know if it’s possible to go there without spending $100. 😂 I’m going to be moving out of Texas in a couple months, and I’m going to miss both Buc-cee’s and HEB. Most other things about/in the state is more “take it or leave it,” but those two places are amazing.

Moved from West Texas to DFW back in 2016 and had the joy of discovering a ton of Buccee's within an hour drive of us. Wife and I make mini "road trips" to go to different ones.
Moved to Florida for about 18 months and SERIOUSLY went through Buccee's withdrawals. Back in DFW and it feels so good to have access again. Yeah, them and HEB.
I feel for you @leftykiller. Take solace in the fact that Buccee's is expanding slowly but surely.

What sucks about the growth is that they get special tax breaks (like sales tax refunds) that existing small businesses don't get. That helps Buckees put the local small operators out of business. I hate corporate welfare. Here locally, they gave Costco $15 million to build the new Costco. GMAFB

I worked at Bucees deli. They brought in a chemical engineer who designed the brisket. He brought in 40 different tasting briskets and said our vote is the one that makes it. It was a great day. They smoke them somewhere else and freeze them and send to the store. Store pops them in an oven for like 8 hours. It's honestly the top 3 brisket ive ever had. Nobody EVER believes me when i say its legit great brisket.

Man! You and Joe DEFINITELY nailed the Buc-cee's experience! For example, the food (including the brisket, chips and Kolaches). Way better going there than going to any fast food place or just in general if you don't have time to stop for a restaurant meal. Whenever we are on the road in Texas, Buc-cee's is definitely one of our stops. I agree that their brisket, though not the best, is better than some places that supposedly specialize in BBQ and are overpriced. You mentioned the gazillion gas pumps as well. I was watching the whole video and seeing that it was getting close to the end and thinking to myself "I can't believe they didn't mention the restrooms." Well, sure enough, right at the end, you did." I wish I would have known where you were (which Buc-cee's) you guys were at. Would have loved to meet you all. All the best to you guys. Happy trails.

A little background on my first WHATABURGER in the early 70's Port Arthur, southeast,Texas. Only Whataburger in the area. They took a meatball out of a metal bowl that was sitting in ice. Toss it on the griddle right in front of me and flatten somewhat. Grease fat flying popping
everywhere. S and P on the patty. Threw the long crinkle cut fries in fryer again in front of me. Toasted the buns on the griddle in the fat with butter. Pulled fries out and salted. Mayo and mustard dressed out burger. You had to do the lean over to eat the burger. Juicy juicy and it didn't fall apart. That was the absolute best burger. Nobody has come close to that burger. Now today cooking is hidden. If you want a hot fresh burger go early in the morning. They have to cook patty fresh. Burger is no where juicy as before but good. No more crinkle cut fries. That is a loss in my book. Today's what whataburger is a disappointment to when I was a teenager.

Have you tried the brisket at The Texan in Schulenberg, Texas? It's much like Buc-ee's... a large truck stop, with a bazillion fuel pumps, large clean bathrooms, all the trucker paraphernalia you could ever want & lotsa MEAT!!! I recommend the Brisket Mac platter. I had never heard of such a combo before. It's about a pound of macaroni and cheese topped with a generous layer of shredded smoked brisket, BBQ sauce & jalapeños optional... You can buy a variety of pastries too, kolaches included. I died & went to heaven!!! Then, as you go to check out, you're confronted with bulk bins of jerky! Heaven!!!

I just came yesterday from Texas. First time visiting. When I mentioned to my wife to go Buc-ees she refused and on the last day going to airport she felt bad and we stopped. That was her favorite stop. She got so much stuff. I tried sliced brisket sandwich. It was good and I’ve had Franklin’s BBQ. I spent $250 and forgot to get pulled pork. I think I bought too much and I was eating it for 4 days and still brought home half. My advice try many places and get half a pound unless you have 3-4 guys who love meats.

My grandma who was pure Czech used to make kolaches when I was a kid and they were amazing. I dont know what the hell they gave you though, sure wasn’t correct, that was like a pig in a blanket. All of my grandparents are of Czech heritage. A kolache is a fruit filled pastry, most commonly with a prune filling. The sausage in a bun thing is a Klobasnek. Bucc-ees is an amazing place, I go there every day. Their brisket is hit and miss. Your review was spot on. It needs more smoke and is not too robust. Sometimes it’s very good, not the greatest, but sometimes it’s really disappointing. I don’t buy their brisket anymore. But I love that place ♥️ And as for Whataburger, you need to ask for the burger well done, and go with mayo instead of mustard. Then you’ll appreciate it. Go well-done on their patty melt and that thing is spectacular too.

Forgive my Shipleys bashing, that’s what you get to appease the whiny kids in the back, they actually do suck and if that’s your goto, then you need to get out more. I’m not alone when I say “The Original Kolache Shoppe” on telephone road is the best kolache I’ve ever eaten and I’ve been in Texas all of my 54 years. They gotz these ham and cheese “croissants”….. a tad salty, but sweet baby Jesus, they’re so good!!!

@@htownpony8449 pinned your place thank you, but from Humble/Kingwood, your place is quite a trek.
You are not wrong, the ham and cheese from Shipley's is not as good as it once was. The sausage and cheese gives me the fix I need. AND Shipley's is on every corner.
Taste is subjective, one man's trash is onther man's treasure.

@@jeffreychristensen4614 on that we agree, brother….taste is subjective. Obviously there’s no way for you to know this, but I worked with some rather “large” men and these dudes were always bringing different stuff to taste and after 7 different kolache places “The Original Kolache Shoppe” became our immediate go to place for breakfast. Second being breakfast tacos from Jaliscos taqueria……man, I miss those days.

I have a comparison video I would like to see you do.
There is a local company from my home Town of Longmont CO called fatworks. They sell beef tallow. I have no affiliation I just love their products. They have an A5 waygu beef tallow that is phenomenal. I've used the south Chicago packing tallow and love that as well. The difference is this A5 waygu stays in almost a melted state all the time. I injected a brisket a couple weekends ago and the tallow didn't even need heated up. I thought it was better but i may be biased. I would love to see a comparison video done.
