    I have had a 705 for a couple of years, and I just learned more in a few minutes with you than I have on my own. Thank you so much, and Merry Christmas.

    I am at the 'research' stage of purchasing my first ever MD and at this point I am leaning toward the x-terra 705 dual. Your video has confirmed what I have found out so far - this is a reliable machine that is capable of gold/coin/relic detecting in a variety of environments, at a reasonable price. I could follow the tips you gave and I understand about the auto grounding concern after watching and listening to you - I didn't understand about it when I read about it at the Minelab website. A++

    I have a 705 for 6 months now. I use ground tracking 100% of time with a +5 off set and never have had a target balance out. This machine is hands down amazing and highly suggest it

    Thanks for that - very timely. Bought a new X Terra last year but because of circumstances am just getting around to trying it out. Had a day training with the company we bought it off but a year later had forgotten everything. This makes it very simple. Much appreciated.

    Ahh excellent, I'm really pleased my short video explained it well enough for you and others.
    The xterra 705 really is a brilliant machine and mine paid for itself in finds in quite a short space of time although I do put a lot of time into metal detecting. the etrac how ever is even better if you could afford to buy the best of the range, although the etrac does take some setting up by like the 705 once done you just switch on and go.
    happy hunting and the very best of luck

    Thanks Luke, in fields I use coin mode but if it's a really quiet field I'll use prospect mode.
    I've used it a lot at the beach, it's excellent on dry sand but on wet sand you need GB tracking on all the time and turn sensitvity down to around 19, you'll still get false signals and sometimes will dig a target that's not there due to salt water flowing through the sand
    happy hunting

    I never lowered my threshold much below 10. I played a little in my test garden after watching this and I think I kind of like it at 4-6 now. I am one of those 99 tones diggers who likes to pull off the target to see if the tone drops off You have to be careful when lowering the sensitivity to 22, as you will lose a lot of depth. I can see a drop off in my test garden from 27 down to 26. Thanks for posting a great video.

    Thanks Jimmy, yeah I always try and remember to turn tracking GB off on my 705, I tend to use all 3 methods of ground balance while out and recheck every 10yds or so to see if it's gone out or not. thanks for the tip although I already knew it is always good to get sound advice off anyone with experience of the xterra 705.
    I had to recheck the video to make sure I'd mention just what you have said and I did PHEW lol.
    thanks for the comment, GL&HH

    the xterra 705 is a very easy machine to use, once it's set all you need to know is how to set it going, it use to take me 5 seconds or less to get going.
    they're a great machine and mine soon paid for itself.
    BUT if I was to start all over again I'd just go straight for an E-trac
    happy hunting my friend

    excellent, 12inches is a great depth for a button, the 705 is a great machine when you get used to it

    Leave the tracking ground balance on until you find a target.
    If you discriminate out ringpulls you might still get a signal off it as they can give a wide range of different ID's numbers, your best bet is NOT to discriminate out ringpulls as some rings give a similar ID.
    Keep with it and learn it as it's an excellent machine

    Hi mate, here's my best advice, get to the field, turn on tracking ground balance and hunt, once you've found a target turn if off and find the target then turn tracking ground balance back on and carry on hunting.
    manual ground balance is as good but remember that soils can change often when in a field so tracking ground balance is the best as it'll update every few seconds.
    sometimes if you dig a hole a coin can go on it's side and be hard to find so kick the soil around a little.GL&HH

    Think garrett have got a winner with the ATPro as the 705 seems like you have to mess around with settings and if not set right then you might miss the good stuff... Good video fella and very informative so keep it up.

    thanks John, when the Christmas lady gets her 705 it'll take a little bit of getting used to but once setup she'll be up and running in a few seconds because once set all she has to do is ground balance and that's it.
    Mums the word,I won't tell what's she's getting heheh

  • @ArcturanMegadonkey
    @ArcturanMegadonkey  11 лет назад

    Hi Charlie, yes the depth does depend on depth, the 7.5khz coil will go deepest but is heavy and the 18khz coil will find really small targets but you loose depth, best to keep with the 7.5khz coil.
    hope this helps
    Good luck and happy hunting
    Paul

  • @ArcturanMegadonkey
    @ArcturanMegadonkey  12 лет назад

    not complicated at all, once set up all you do is switch on, ground balance and away you go, I can get detecting in about 2 seconds from turning it on.
    they're really good machines but you do have to listen for tones and take it quite slow until you're used to it
    thanks for watching and happy hunting

    I have owned a 705 for about five years now and have used it about 100 hours in varying locations. I must have read the instructions several dozen times and applied them to actual use. My conclusions are; if you are experienced with metal detectors, know and understand the terminology and the technical references, don't believe everything in the instructions and why, then maybe try one of these expensive machines. I have learned much about detecting during this time, (I have some prior experience), but no doubt have missed finding a lot of goodies in the process due to the complexities and outright falsehoods concerning the xterra 705. The multi purpose multi modes, hypothetical do all discrimination system, do nothing depth indication, etc., doesn't make this the be all to end all machine. Some in depth, lengthy, hands on instruction is advisable before purchasing one of these machines if you are a novice.

    if you can afford it I would recommend the e-trac instead, the xterra 705 is a great machine but not very good on wet sand and a little on the heavy side

  • @ArcturanMegadonkey
    @ArcturanMegadonkey  11 лет назад

    Nah, I disagree, once you've setup the xterra 705 all you need to do is ground balance is as it remembers all the settings. I turn the machine on click tracking ground balance and away I go. agree if you get the settings wrong you will loose targets but you'll do that with any machine apart from the garretts unless you count sensitivity as a setting.
    Thanks for watching and commenting

    Question...even if the detector ground balanced to the target, wouldnt it re-adjust the next time it ground balances 1 second later? Also, any chance you would be able to make a video analyizing target "sounds and tones" with the 705? I am relatively new with the 705, but even by utilizing the 4 tone, I only tend to dig good repeatable targets as I walk around a possible target. I am afraid that I may be missing deep targets.
    Good vid by the way.

    • @ArcturanMegadonkey
      @ArcturanMegadonkey  11 лет назад

      Hi, I didn't create a wet sand setup but if you turn on the umbrella mode and down the sensitivity to around 19 and keep tracking ground balance on you should get OK although I did get a few occasions when it found a target which wasn't ever there due to salt water traveling through the beach so to be hones the 705 isn't that brilliant on wet sand although does work with some practice and the above settings, hope you get on ok.
      good luck

    Was looking for 505 video and saw this instead . Having trouble setting and understanding the discrimination technique , and why is it that Ive been advised by someone who has been detecting for over 35 years that you should detect slow and low , and all im seeing on these you tube vids is people throwing the detector fast side to side ?

    • @ArcturanMegadonkey
      @ArcturanMegadonkey  4 года назад

      anyone going fast side to side is probably missing tons of signals! I now have the minelab Etrac and still to this day go slow and low.
      the lower you are to the ground the closer you get to a target.
      XP deus machines are extremely fast so you can go quite fast with them

    good vid. I have just got my 705 and had my first outing and am happy enough im still learning I was using a Garrett 400 but felt it wasnt going deep enough and the 705 seems to be im hoping anyway. But my question is do i have to use earphones with the 705 and if i dont am i in danger of missing targets.

    • @ArcturanMegadonkey
      @ArcturanMegadonkey  7 лет назад

      You are best using headphones with the 705 as it's easy to miss targets.
      interesting how you say the garrett 400 wasn't giving depth!

    • @brentkev01
      @brentkev01 7 лет назад +1

      ok thanks, the 400 is fine I just noticed it wasnt going very deep and when I reburied a few finds by and inch or two it was just passing over them. Also when you brought the sensitivity up it really became erratic when i went to the same field with the 705 It was very steady and no false targets and that was on full sensitivity. I have found a shed full of stuff with the Garrett and im going to hold onto it. Im hoping the 705 will go a little deeper as it seems to be billed as a better detector and I have heard it from a few people in the game that swear by them. So it will be the earphones this weekend.

    • @ArcturanMegadonkey
      @ArcturanMegadonkey  8 лет назад

      +Giancarlo Saenz Silver and gold can be anywhere in the numbers depending on the size of the object, the numbers simply mean the size of the object and it's conductivity so tin foil will have low numbers (thin gold rings do too) and large numbers will be large objects like large coins or drinks cans.
      To put it simply, if you are out metal detecting you dig everything which gives a decent two ways signal and isn't iron
