BABYMETAL is leading the way in Japanese rock and metal. Their emergence has had a huge impact on the metal world, generating a lot of support and a lot of hate. They have been around for 13 years, but are only 25 and 23 years old. They have the most dedicated fandom in the world behind them.

"Perfection" is impossible to achieve, especially in a live performance. But "impossible" does not exist in BABYMETAL. ;)

This song is very atypical for Babymetal's usual output. Normally they are, as the name suggests a metal band, but this performance was for the youtube channel 'The First Take' which is all about showcasing singers performing a one take live performance, so this is a stripped back version of 'Monochrome' specifically for that purpose. The original version of the song from the studio album is a lot heavier.

Thanks for this reaction. Glad you liked it.
In metal music you have harsh vocals and clean vocals, the girls (well women now) in Babymetal have clean vocals. Some of their songs do use backing tracks with harsh vocals, used more as an instrument.
That said Babymetal does metal fusion. They don't stick to one metal sub-genre or even one music genre and a lot of their music is smashing different music genres together in new and interesting ways.
Babymetal is at the best at live shows. Babymetal as you noticed in this performance (which is similar to going on stage to perform live), they really know how to deliver with precision an amazing live performance.
Something else which is unusual about Babymetal, they were the first to introduce choreographed dance into the metal genre.
Which is why the young lady (Moametal) 'on the left' didn't have a large singing role, one of her primary parts is actually dancing. They used to be with 2, but one left because of health reasons (Yuimetal). The main singer in Babymetal is: Su-metal. And the live band is called Kami band.
As others have mentioned, they started when they were really young. As you can imagine: little girls singing and dancing with metal music got they noticed. A gimmick, but not directly in a negative sense. Babymetal really knows how to deliver amazing shows/performances. So they might have grabbed attention, but they know how to keep it.
I would recommend to start with: Babymetal Ijime, Dame, Zettai at Sonisphere, UK 2014.

So glad to see new people introduced to this most wonderful group - live they are virtually unsurpassed with AMAZING shows and huge audience participation😀 Well spotted hearing them walking and the costumes rustling 👍 DO check out their Monochrome lyric video - and if possible the interpretation many have put on it - and where the lead singer comes from! Also WELL wotrth checking some of the live performances they have - much better than the MVs often (but not always........🤣) - great reaction to a unique voice and presence!

BABYMETAL!!! The only group to ever make me cry from exhilaration! Road of Resistance, specifically the official Live from Japan version is probably going to be the highest recommended. Karate at Download festival, or Headbanger at Legend 1997 will also be highly recommended. Vocally though, my favourites are Shanti Shanti Shanti and Shine. Fun and amusing ones are Gimme Chocolate, Pa Pa Ya, and Oh Majinai. Oh and at Sonisphere, a power metal one is Ijime Dame Zettai
Edit: I just went on a mini BM RUclips watch. So many incredible ones. Live is always better and to avoid blocks, compilations from Ferr are really good. For vocals, I have to add Brand New Day, Light and Darkness, Akatsuki, and Rondo of Nightmare. Also, just as a warning, flashing lights are heavily used in their live performances and music videos. Anyway, enjoy the most diverse and entertaining band I’ve come across in years!

Nice first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊 BABYMETAL are like nothing you will have seen or heard before. They are Su-metal (lead vocalist) and Moametal (backing vocals, harmonies but mainly in charge of dance, leading the audience, getting everybody involved and joining in).
The third original member, Yuimetal, sadly left the band in October 2018 having been absent from the stage for the previous 12 months. She had ongoing (and undisclosed) health issues. Su and Moa have continued as a duo since then, supported by 3 dancers (the Avengers) dancing in the third spot (it has been the same one, Momoko, since 2020 - they are teasing the reveal of a new third member in April - it may well be her).
BABYMETAL started in 2010 as a sub-unit of a school themed J-Pop Idol group called Sakura Gakuin. As members of that group they would sing songs and dance, the sub-units would have their own themed songs (tennis, cooking, science etc). BABYMETAL were the heavy music club and they were formed around Su-metal's extraordinary vocal talents and stage presence. I think you saw here that she is an exceptional vocalist - you haven't seen her on stage controlling a crowd of thousands yet.
In 2013 Su would be 15 and would graduate from Sakura Gakuin (having the school theme it was for girls aged 10 to 15), but it was decided that BABYMETAL should be her vehicle as she furthered her career as a vocalist and should separate from the Idol group to go with her as an independent band in their own right.
BABYMETAL have gone on to become one of the very best live bands on the planet (and have won international awards to prove that is not just my opinion). Their big arena shows are spectacular, but they put on great shows every time, even in smaller venues and festivals as they tour the world where they can't always have all the special effects and flames etc too.
They have about 60 songs now, every one of them is different. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but will mix in other musical styles and genres with the metal. Some songs lean towards their pop roots others are just good hard metal and they do everything in between - so if you don't like one song try another, the chances are you'll love it. You already have some excellent suggestions in the comments below.

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's metalverse 🦊🤘🌐
I'm glad to see new reactors getting into BM songs, you're arriving to a special era with more mature sound and a BM side we've never seen before. I'm gonna leave another suggestion in my next comment so you can check it out early BM era songs and clips safe to react but meanwhile don't worry about putting some filters in BM new singles, so far no one is reporting copyright blocked issues.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute), mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms, the name is a pun intended play of words with "heavy metal" and is a reference to a birth of a new genre, they are:
    *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 23.
*YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018.
    None of them are related.
After that year you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them sing or have mic, they only dance, but that may change this year since they announced a new official member is coming.
Monochrome is the 2nd single released from this new upcoming album called "The Other One" is gonna be released next March 24, you can watch the official lyrics video to know what is about. Here's some official info:
_From the eyes of the children, what color were the monochrome fireworks lighting up in the night sky? This song expresses the hopeful wish on Ragnarok, which signifies doomsday in Norse mythology, twinkling across the starry skies in rainbow colors._
Original version is more hard rock ballad style with overprocessed and audio effects, SuMetal vocals are similar to vocaloid style in some parts, but is enjoyable either way with the beautiful message.
We're waiting for the live proshot version at Makuhari Messe 2023 performed at the end of January, one of the highlights in the live concerts was this beautiful song, SuMetal made everyone raise their phones to illuminate this dark world.
The girls dressed in white are extra backing vocals for this song.
They already have softer version and piano version of certain songs before like "Akatsuki Unfinished Version" and The One - Stairway To Living Legend, i suggest you those after hearing the original version.
    Next suggestion:
    - _Karate_ live at Download Festival 2016.
Hope to see you next time with more BM songs. 🦊🤘🌈

There is 13 years of history of these girls to be found online. From the time they were 12/10 years old until today. My recommendation would be to view another video of them as they are today before going back through that 13 years of history. The video BABYMETAL - METAL KINGDOM (OFFICIAL) was filmed at their most recent concert just a few weeks ago. It shows Babymetal in their natural element, live in front of an audience. Which is the only recommendation I have for all else. Try and stay with live videos because that is always when they are at their best.

You are not the only RUclipsr who has discovered Babymetal through this First Take video. The lead singer Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) was in a singing trio Karen Girls at the age of 10. She is now 25 so she is a music veteran. A producer at the Amuse talent agency, Kei Kobayashi, wanted to create a group that fused J-pop idol and metal and in Su-metal he found the person he needed. The history of the band and the whole mythology is wild. (They were chosen by the Fox God.) As others have said they used to be 3 members, but have been 2 for years. They have hinted (Babymetal's management is notoriously vague about everything) they will choose an official new third member next month. The 3 figures in this MV may be a hint of that. But the hints are so vague some fans think that instead of someone new. it will be the return of Yui-metal who left in 2018. But as Babymetal says when asked about things they don't want to talk about, "Only the Fox God knows."

  • @cuttysark8017
    @cuttysark8017 Год назад +5

Su has an exceptional voice with great power, clarity and vocal control. Moa also has a good voice by normal standards, but only rarely takes the lead on a song and usually does backing vocals. Before 2017 Babymetal had a 3rd member called Yui Mizuno and Moa and her would sing together in concerts to give Su a rest. That duo was called Black Babymetal and if you look at their performances you will hear more of Moa's voice. Yui is still the subject of speculation with some fans as although she has not appeared in public since she left BM for unspecified health reasons in 2017/18 she is still under contract to BM's agency, Amuse. There is obviously something special in their relationship.
The BM fans have speculated on the three hooded figures and their ideas range from just three backing singers, or it being a nod back to when Yui was in BM or a teaser for BM announcing a 3rd new member on April 1st.

Great first reaction! 🤘🦊🤘Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance. Here is a little bit of BABYMETAL info...In 2019, BABYMETAL became the first Asian artists to hit #1 on BILLBOARD's Top Rock Albums chart with their latest album, "Metal Galaxy", and in 2020 the album won the MTV Japan VMA 2020 award for BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR. BABYMETAL has been melting faces for OVER TWELVE years. The girls were very young when BABYMETAL was formed!
BABYMETAL have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. Plus the 20+ awards they have been given. They have 50+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too.🤘🦊🤘

    Welcome to the Foxhole....
The song has a familiar BM theme of loss and then hope and being strong through adversity. Some people think that the song is about the WWII bombing of Japan or even has a connection with the Hiroshima bomb because the lead singer, Suzuka Nakamoto, comes from Hiroshima, but I'm not sure about that. BM songs and BM themselves are a marvelous canvas for fans to paint on, but pinning the song to particular historical events is a bit too much extrapolation IMO.
BM were created in 2010 by a producer at the Amuse Talent Agency called Kei Kobayashi. He heard Su singing with a short lived group called "Karen Girls" and thought her powerful voice would work well in a metal context. So when she joined the Amuse school themed J-pop group Sakura Gakuin he put his plan into action. Part of SG's conceit was that the girls had school clubs and would sing songs themed around those clubs. He paired her with Moa Kikuchi (the other girl in the video) and Yui Mizuno (sadly left BM in 2017/18) to provided backup vocals and dancing to form the "Heavy Metal Club". They became so popular they they were spun off as a separate group called Babymetal in 2013 and went onto major international success.
The next songs you should experience are classic BM concert performances like "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan" or "Headbanger - Legend 1997". Enjoy!

Nice reaction. I'm a bit confused you said you like J rock and metal. But you seem to never have hear of them. I guess it happens. Here we go. Babymetal is the Alpha of the newest Japanese wave of international metal artists. They started together way back in 2010. While still part of the Jpop group Sakura Gakuin. I suggest checking them out too at some point. Charmingly kawaii to say the least. And a growing list of famous ladies from there. But none so far as famous as Babymetal. Starting off as a trio of Su-metal, Yuimetal and Moametal. Yui left in 2018 due to health issues. The main singer Su was born with amazing talent. Today as you can hear she has learned to be fantastically skilled singer. While in their younger years Su said she wanted to be a singer song writer. She's been singing for some time now. with that said She has writing credits for the song Divine Attack the first release from the soon to be released 4th album. Yeah. Moa's tittle is scream and dance. But she is far more than that and she actually hardly ever screams. But she does a lot of singing and dancing. Almost all of Babymetal songs have a choreographed dance that goes along with it. The dance help interpret the song so no matter what language you speak. Learning the dance moves help tell the story of the lyrics. You can find translations of their songs online today easily. Prof AJ Hartley has done deep dive into their song lyrics and possible interpretations of them on RUclips. Great stuff. I usually suggest reactors start in the beginning. So, you can grow with the band. Literally since they started so young. Their first song is "Doki Doki Morning". Babymetals music has a metal base and jpop vocals mixed with whatever genre or more often genres in between. Making all their songs different from each other and yet they retain an overall Babymetal sound. Mostly due to Su's clean vocals, Moa's compatible voice and a work ethic that few can match. Babymetal snuck some marketing in the video. While the three white robed figures were doing some of the backup vocals with Moa. Their image represented Babymetal when they started out. They even did a show with white robe outfits on. The holding of hands shows their connection to each other. Something Moa said about a performance they did. Felt like that were so connected it was like holding hands. Kawaii. And soon to be announced they are returning to being a trio as hinted at from their last concert. The fan base is known as the ONE. As in One with the band. Audience participation is mandatory at a Babymetal concert. Enjoy your journey through the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music. See YOU. 🦊🦊

BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka age 12 Moa Kikuchi (shown in the video) and Yui Mizuno (who left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were only 10 when the group began.
All three were friends and classmates who attended an idol school (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life the girls would learn and train to be idols and graduate at age 15 to move onto whatever entertainment path they chose.
Kei Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old and needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi believed that Suzuka had the ability to front s metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers and dancers and a phenomenon was about to occur.
At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues) and Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
Suggest reacting to BabyMetal LIVE as this is where they shine. They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, Guns and Roses, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Suggest reacting to these for a start.

I don't mean to be mean or anything. I'm not trying to be a troll, but seriously? "First Take" videos are soft easy versions of usually harder rock and pop songs, recorded in one take to emphasize their vocal talent. Why pick a "First Take" video for a first time reaction to a new artist you've never heard before? This is an amazing version of their new release MONOCHROME, but it is NOT representative of what Babymetal truly is. They are a performance dance and vocal group that combines pop elements with extremely heavy metal music. They are at their best on a live stage. You REALLY REALLY want to know who Babymetal are? Watch HEADBANGER live Legend 97. One of their early hits.
    ruclips.net/video/YjjWZpf_jSs/видео.html

you need suggestions? lmao where to start.
    PLEASE WATCH THE LIVE VERSION:
Gimme Chocolate -> this is their "viral" song that was viral back in 2014. also people kinda deemed them as a "gimmick" and one time only due to this. not my cup of tea honestly, but you can check it out
Road of Resistance -> if Queen has Bohemian Rhapsody then Babymetal has Road of Resistance. nuf said. see the LIVE in Japan version definitely.
Ijime, Dame, Zettai -> this is the song that catapulted them on the western hemisphere
    Megitsune
    Headbanger
all those 5 songs above are kinda THE song that people will suggest, but my personal favorites:
Akatsuki, live in Budokan 2021 is the most refined version of this song. my NEWEST personal favorite
PA PA YA!! this is REALLY fun to watch and to dance!
the new ones (including the one you watch) from their newest album "The Other One"
Monochrome, check out the album version
    Divine Attack -Shingeki-
    MAYA
    Believing
    The Metal Kingdom
but seriously, you can't go wrong with a react video of them. ANY of it are worth to watch and react to.
