@@internetpointsbank yeah, but look at how much it will cost to restore it back to 80% of it's original condition. Imagine how much the planes value would have been if it was in mint condition.
@FarEastindy I'm assuming they had the money, but to keep this jet maintained for 40 years you're talking millions and millions of dollars. It would've been cool to see, but whoever owned it didn't want to put money into it.
This was a plane owned by Elvis, but wasn’t one he regularly flew on. I think was basically bought for his wife or daughter thinking they’d use it. It basically just got parked and not used. One of the big problems with planes is they still cost a lot to keep up even if it’s just parked and sitting. So, they tend to get left alone then if someone wants to get it flying again it takes nearly a full rebuild of everything.
I saw some pictures online a few years ago about this airplane! It seems so sad that it was being left to deteriorate. I’m so glad to see someone is finally going to fix this beauty up!
Jimmy's pure joy at lights coming on is awesome! It is amazing that so much was working after all this time sitting in the elements. Elvis lives on! #TCB
20 years back I had a look inside an airworthy one of these. At the time I was flying a Dassault Falcon 900. The complexity of the flight deck was scary not to mention the way that the vertical fin moved back and forth with the stabiliser. And by memory the wing de icing was done with pneumatic boots. Flying this era of jet really did take skill.
I actually worked on the APU for one years ago. That particular airplane was equipped with a Sundstrand/Solar T39 which was buried in our Hawker700s. In the Jetstar, you could have played a football game around the installation... There was that much room. I also got the opportunity to fly the simulator before my present company decommissioned it.
That was fun Jimmy. I lived in Roswell during the 90s and never knew about your jet. My dad ran the old bus plant TMC up the flight line from you. Their old hanger was the one that supposedly housed the roswell ufo. No Lie! Thanks for the excitement and enthusiasm! And thanks for sharing.
If you need spares, there has been a Jetstar on the ramp at KOAK for many years. It appears to have all 4 engines and moves from place to place every few years, but doesn't seem have to left the ramp for more than a decade. I also saw 2 Jetstars on the ramp up north, I think at Redmond, OR.
Jimmy, I have never seen you as excited over a airplane as this. Awesome, and prayers that you can bring her back to flight life as she has just proven a will to live.
I came in for this series, been watching other vids from you as well. Your energy on this rig is intoxicating, I really hope you’re able to get sponsored to rebuild it to it’s Elvis glory days. Maybe charge admission for private flights and events. If not, mock it up to look like it once was for a museum piece and let others enjoy it as well.
After 40 + years the electrics actually worked, that was amazing. I first seen the video before it went to auction ,that was when i hoped someone would purchase it .That person is you. To bring back to life a jet with an incredible history is awesome. It was a shame it landed there in the first place. To see the excitement from you was understandable as i had a big smile eveytime another electric hardware started up. I wish you all the best in bringing such a historic plane back to life. Thank you for sharing this.
It was a bold move to power It up like that, i bet there are a dozen places where It can happen an electric short, where stuff has been removed and where rats have eaten the wiring, burning the plane to the ground Is a matter of minutes
@@gillespriod5509 well you have breakers so it’s unlikely to do much, things just won’t work. It’s also where it’s been laid up there isn’t much around that could cause damage . Reminds me of these old migs that were preserved in the Iraqi desert during the war there. They dug them up and they were just like the day they were buried by saddam. Still impressive though nothing went bang. The gpu will have trip systems on it and would trip if there was a current draw beyond a threshold It’s hard to tell what was energised in the video, seems to be the battery bus which is the low voltage side . I don’t know how jetstars are started (I.E pneumatic or motor) but if it’s the latter then the big current items are missing Since the inside seems preserved well then probably there isn’t scope for corrosion especially when they cocoon the planes in storage there anyway. TLDR I wouldn’t do such a thing to a plane stored in New England or somewhere wet but in the desert things are different
You are the best person in the world to own this plane. I'm really pleased you bought it. At least this plane will get some much needed attention and the public will be invited along for the journey.
When I was flying in and out of Roswell in the early 1990's, all 4 engines were still on that plane parked in the west side of the building it was parked beside 👍
40 years have elapsed - and still nuthin' to watch on TV. I'm amazed that there's very little dust on stuff. My house gets dusty within 48 hrs. And it's not parked in the middle of a desert. Lookin' forward to seeing your restoration project. Glad to see you saving a piece of R&R history.
Its wonderful your restoring it to it's glory it just gives me chills it's been that long since he past yet his presence in the plane remains unchanged almost Like he just stepped off an got his heavenly wings an flew like he always wanted thank God ur giving it's restoration a go god bless an may the king Mr. Elvis Presley forever rest in paradise an his music inspire people for decades to come
Jimmy Thanks so much for sharing this with us Viewer's, When you said Airforce I was making so much noise in my office my wife came in and asked what the heck I was yelling and screaming about so I showed her this video. My wife said oh ok, and left, Jimmy I was involved in refurbing the KC-135 Tankers at Altus AFB. in Oklahoma I was the assistant NCO we stripped down the interior of the aircraft and sanded and paint the aircraft to the exact USAF spec, We were number 1 in the 8th airforce we even pulled the pumpkin's out (control column's) I am Retired now one thing I told everyone hey if you got the money anything is possible!! Congrats Jimmy
Very cool! Being a Roswell area native, I have seen this aircraft many times over the past 40 years. I understood that a local oil company had it at one time and I wondered why it just sat unused for so long. I thought it was such a cool aircraft. Glad you got it and I hope you can get it airworthy.
Maybe if people knew that Howard Hughes and Elvis were very close. Gives reason why it was left in Roswell. It sat in the exact spot they wanted it left, I'm assuming as nothing with them was random. It's said, Elvis partnered up with Howard Hughes and was at the helm of MacIntosh/IBM computers, ground floor. Elvis is good at what he does. I wouldn't be surprised if "someone" who actually knows that plan inside and out contacts him at some point.
Thank you Jimmy for sharing the experience with us. While no longer in service, the Jetstar is my absolute favorite biz jet. Anyone who was anyone had one of their own (back in the day).
This plane has found it’s perfect human! I’m so glad you bought this plane! My dad is retired SAC commander flew B52s for 20 years. He restores them at March AFB museum. It’s truly a labor of love. Good luck!!!!
My dad used to work for the TMC bus company, which is the reason for all those buildings out there. Seeing that plane was a part of my life for 35ish years, and I knew the previous owners, so I got to explore it a few times. Good luck with your endeavor!👌
I truly liked the way you showed the jet of great Elvis Presley and now your own property. The happiness on your face to see many pieces of equipment working made my day. I subscribed to your channel for more good videos like this. Brother if you can make this plane fly again would be your best video. Good luck!
Very cool. However, I'm so glad it didn't "Start" since there are no engines. But I am impressed that many systems still work. I wonder if there is an individual or heritage organization willing to help fund a full restoration. I really enjoy your enthusiasm and your many other postings on RUclips. Long live the 👑. I
I am surprised he didn't smoke anything. The last thing I would be excited about would be the tv and microwave working. What happened to the instruments and radar? Also, I wish someone would air up the tires, it bothers my OCD. lol
You could probably buy a couple of G650s for what it would cost to restore this baby. The FAA had a JETSTAR they used to test various navigation aids that I would see at Wilmington Airport - ILG. Man - it was noisy. Haven't seen it since COVID.
@@donkendall1227 It going to need about 10 million plus to get it restored and that if it even possible? Best bet is turn it into a tourist attraction if anything, is more realistic?
Hey Jimmy, you need water in the holding tank, for the toilet to flush. The lav and water access doors should be near the front, on the pilot's side. Hope that helps
This is the craziest plan, but if anyone could do it, its Jimmy. I actually believe the plane could fly again, but it's going to take some millions of dollars to get there. If every Elvis fan gave just one dollar, pound, euro, whatever, it would surely be enough to get this in the air again. If I remember, the Jetstar was the original 'Executive Jet' ans was total luxury in its day. Good luck, Jimmy; I believe it can be done.
Not worth restoring, the Jetstar doesn't have the book value, especially considering he spent over 200k on it. A Jetstar with low engine time is only worth 500k. On top of that, by the time he's got it flight worthy and passed all the inspections, he's over 1 million in. I own a jet commander 1121, and a simple corrosion inspection cost me 20k. He could maybe get 50k in scrap, but that's really it.
I saw this plane going down Interstate 22, just west of Birmingham Monday evening. I wondered to myself what the story of it was, and now I know! Pretty cool too! And now that I think about it, the plane traveled through Memphis and Tupelo.
You could make this fly again. Money can make just about anything to fly. Looks like you'll need a lot of if. I'm excited to watch this come alive again. Please don't get discouraged. Stick with it, you can do it.
Awesome video!! I would love to see if you could bring this this thing back to life. I think it would be one of the best aviation renovation video series ever made.
Agreed, I can't wait to see how this planes looks over the coming year or two! I saw that a guy from another large channel bid for this plane to, I think he was only prepared to go up to two hundred thousand or somewhere around there.
Of course he can yeah it's going to be a big project but it isn't destroyed it's been taken care of I mean it's basically been in dry storage for decades
AWESOME!!! I have been showing this to friends for years on Google Earth. Dad took us to Vegas in the early 70s, about 11yo, learned to water ski at Lake Mead, spent 2 days at the Dunes and saw Elvis.
How cool is that? You went for "all or nothing" by plugging in the power. It might have gone terribly wrong, like wires bursting in flames. I´m so happy that it actually fired up. This thing is just too valuable to just break down. I really wish that it will fly some day. There is heart and soul in it!
I remember seeing a video about this plane like over a year ago. It’s really cool that you are documenting all of this in a fun way. It would have been a shame for this to sell at auction and then never hear about it again… good luck with this project!
it is clear to me why one has the money to afford the plane! He gets excited like a child! It is so important that we have such people, they have always created a lot in history! Very cool guy❤

God bless you for your motivation in acquiring that aircraft and all the happiness in healing its sould. I remember maybe within the last 10 years or so, there was an article somewhere about that aircraft was either up for auction and did not get any bids or was eventually going to be up for auction, can't remember. 100% from the heart I wanted to be that plane's savior and purchase it... don't have that kind of money of course. My parents were super Elvis fans in the 70's and 80's and I can still remember seeing one of their God knows how many pics related to Elvis and one of that plane. As a kid, it looked like a combo of a fighter plane and a jumbo jet. There is something magical about that model of aircraft and then on top of it Elvis owned it, very special. I love that color scheme. It is so heartbreaking it has been tortured by the desert sun for so long. Good luck to you with the restoration. It is going to be a very long and intricate process. Don't cut any corner bud, make it safe, thorough, and better than it was new. We truly look forward to whatever you post about the process.
My complements and sympathy's to you! I think that you were totally aware of what you were stepping into, and you did it anyway! If I were you I would start a "fund to save my Elvis jet" fund and see what happens! Also invite any and all Elvis lovers to con and see it with a "donation" for the cause to see if you can at least get the instrument panel working and blinking, and get some aluminum on the outside to make it look "cool" and stop the birds! Good luck, do you have a PayPal account!
Careful what you wish for! Many years ago I had an infamous Porsche at my shop that had once belonged to Nicolas Cage, it had been stolen, dumped in a lake and found many years later, It was brought to me to restore, a local newspaper ran a story about it and the next day I was getting women from all over showing up to see it, I actually saw quite a few kneel down and kiss the driver's seat! I didn't have the heart to tell them that I'd been setting in it all morning working on dash wiring! This went on everyday for about 2 weeks! My situation it was just Nic Cage, just imagine the stuff crazy Elvis fans would be doing!

I’m really not surprised that a lot of the items still worked. If the plane was made for Elvis, I’m sure the utmost attention to detail was put into it. And everything was top quality. So I’m not surprised. So long as there’s no rodent damage. Good luck with your future plans. P.S. I was born in Germany in 1958, Elvis actually held me in his arms when I was a baby. But that’s another story for another day.
Can't believe how awesome it has to be to own a plane that Elvis himself owned and sat onboard. All that for 250 grand. It's nothing really compared to how much you gotta pay for some for the stuff Elvis owned. I wasn't even aware such a plane existed and was in such a good condition. You can probably offer paid tours to the public. If you can get sponsors to get this baby in the air - it would be just fantastic! Fingers crossed it happens.

You got this Jimmy. If you have it back in the air your channel’s going to pay for it and when it’s back online then you’ll have a ment piece of the king’s history. Do it do it do it do it
In the early 80’s I worked on that airplane with a company called Unique out of Lubbock. Back then it was owned by a local oil man named Roy McKay. The plane looked like new and was kept in a hangar up until then. I hope you don’t expect it to fly again… Not to be the bearer of bad news, but when we removed the tops of the wings, I found a crack in the structure of the left (I think) wing. We stopped work for a week and came back to see the crack drilled and filled and we finished the job, but I honestly don’t think it ever flew after that.
I'd be very interested to know the reason it was grounded. Did it go to you for a maintenance check when you discovered the crack? Was the crack in one of the spars? If the crack was repaired why didn't it fly again? Looks like it was owned by Mcay for years afterwards so I guess he used it as a parts donor. I'd love to hear more about it.
@@bobbyrayofthefamilysmith24 Right after high school I was looking for cash and a family friend with connections at the air field hooked me up with the techs from Unique, who hired me and one other person to help remove the top skin from the wing, sop up any remaining fuel and clean all the old sealants off the spars. No one ever mentioned the Elvis connection. A couple of days into the job, I saw a crack in the leading edge, close to where it meets the fuselage. I alerted one of the techs who muttered a ton of profanities and told us to go home until they figured things out. We were called back a few days later and it looked like a pin of some sort was inserted in the crack to fix it. We finished cleaning out the wings and that is the last time I saw the plane until it came up for sale and the Elvis story surfaced.
@@anthonycowdrey5783 Ah right I thought you was an A&P still an interesting story. It sounds like the crack was in the skin/leading edge fairing from your description. That's something that would be quite easily repaired. Unless the crack was in the actual wing spar itself in which case that could definitely write off an aircraft. I believe this AC would have been around 25 years old by the mid 80s so it's possible the owner decided it was worth more as a parts donor than to repair especially if he owned a fleet.

I thought he was going to say that he paid $250 for it 😂 Someone had a nice payday. When it's done up though I'm guessing it'll be worth millions. The fact that much of the electronics still works is a testament to the engineering and build quality. That's why these things are so damn expensive. I’m not much of an Elvis fan but appreciating what a serious piece of memorabilia this is along with my belief that anything not working should be fixed… thanks for taking us along for the ride. I’d be geeking out the same way as you if it were some random John Smith’s airplane.
I am so disappointed that the person or group that had this aircraft after the king of rock n roll, let it get to this stage. I am glad that you bought it and I can see that the love for this aircraft is in you. I am sure that you can find sponsors to preserve this piece of history. As a fan of Elvis , thank you for saving this aircraft.
Who really cares? I would have crushed it and laughed while doing it?
It’s a junkies toy
Idk seems like it worked out for them being it sold for $250,000
@@internetpointsbank yeah, but look at how much it will cost to restore it back to 80% of it's original condition.
Very encouraging. I hope you can keep as much of the original airplane as possible intact. How great to see a piece of history coming back to life.
Jimmy reminds me of Buddy the Elf, Just so happy and excited about everything.
I saw some pictures online a few years ago about this airplane! It seems so sad that it was being left to deteriorate. I’m so glad to see someone is finally going to fix this beauty up!
He's not going to fix it. Just going to make a bunch of clickbait videos with it.
Jimmy's pure joy at lights coming on is awesome! It is amazing that so much was working after all this time sitting in the elements. Elvis lives on! #TCB

Thank you for keeping Elvis Presly’s Jet 1329 Alive, can't wait and see it's next Chapter after left in a Desert 🏜️ for 4 Decades 😢 I salute you 🙌🙏
20 years back I had a look inside an airworthy one of these.

The excitement in his voice! Omg I’m so happy for him
Me too! I could feel his excitement with every switch that successfully turned something on that plane on!
My parents took me to see Elvis in concert at 10yrs old in Toledo ohio April 1977!! 3rd row center stage!!! GOD BLESS. Frank
That's what I first thought,, looked like an old Jetstar from the 60s. Cool,
@@wayback75 exactly right - more or less just like the plane in the middle and towards the end of Goldfinger.
Jimmy, I have never seen you as excited over a airplane as this. Awesome, and prayers that you can bring her back to flight life as she has just proven a will to live.
I can't believe they still have the right plug to connect it. 😲

To bring back to life a jet with an incredible history is awesome. It was a shame it landed there in the first place. To see the excitement from you was understandable as i had a big smile eveytime another electric hardware started up.
I wish you all the best in bringing such a historic plane back to life. Thank you for sharing this.

The gpu will have trip systems on it and would trip if there was a current draw beyond a threshold
It’s hard to tell what was energised in the video, seems to be the battery bus which is the low voltage side . I don’t know how jetstars are started (I.E pneumatic or motor) but if it’s the latter then the big current items are missing
Since the inside seems preserved well then probably there isn’t scope for corrosion especially when they cocoon the planes in storage there anyway.
TLDR I wouldn’t do such a thing to a plane stored in New England or somewhere wet but in the desert things are different
It works because nothing is made in China there!
Items built in the 60s 70s will always work their circuits and components were more robust than the ones today
You are the best person in the world to own this plane. I'm really pleased you bought it. At least this plane will get some much needed attention and the public will be invited along for the journey.
I love how excited you are for the TV turning on….WHEN YOU ARE LITERALLY SITTING IN A SEAT ELVIS SAT IN!!!!

I’ve never seen anyone get so excited about a microwave & TV turning on, but oh boy is it great to see that, there is life in the old lady.
Watching his inner child level excitement come out was truly priceless. So awesome
Ok you bought it but how do you move it out of there it’s not able to fly and probably won’t be flying ever again
It will never fly again. Very unlikely it will even do ground runs. It will be for sale again soon.
If they can excavate a WW2 fighter plane out of a glacier and fly it again, this will be a piece of cake.

Don't give this clown a single penny. He's got $200,000 to blow on an old jet.

lets stared the elvis plaine back to live crowdfunding action!!!!!
If only the radio cracked on.. With elvis presley favourite song. Same for the TV. The KING is alive!!!

God bless you for your motivation in acquiring that aircraft and all the happiness in healing its sould.
I would rather have his motorcycle.

In the early 80’s I worked on that airplane with a company called Unique out of Lubbock. Back then it was owned by a local oil man named Roy McKay.
The plane looked like new and was kept in a hangar up until then.
I hope you don’t expect it to fly again…
Not to be the bearer of bad news, but when we removed the tops of the wings, I found a crack in the structure of the left (I think) wing. We stopped work for a week and came back to see the crack drilled and filled and we finished the job, but I honestly don’t think it ever flew after that.
This plane would cost a fortune to restore, but would make a very cool static display aircraft.

The fact that much of the electronics still works is a testament to the engineering and build quality. That's why these things are so damn expensive.
