"Teacher Dress Codes" vary from district to district and school to school. I teach at a public high school in San Francisco, and my usual dress is a shirt and tie, but the sleeves are rolled up and it's paired with jeans and boots. My partner teaches at a charter school in Oakland, and she's not allowed to wear jeans or a tee-shirt unless it's a Friday, I think? Maybe not even then. Either way, different rules for different schools.
Here's my take on this skit: it's actually a pretty specific parody of a certain type of movie, where a teacher goes to a school in an impoverished area (as Mr. Garvey puts it, the inner city) and whips a primarily black class into shape. Think Dangerous Minds or Lean On Me. So Mr Garvey is basically a character from one of those movies coming to a more affluent (and white) school. This explains the way he dresses and his vocabulary ("Insubordinate, and churlish"), meant to show he's educated, respectable and straightlaced (and conservative), to contrast him with the "hood" kids he's teaching. I'm a white European though so I could be talking complete nonsense, but that's the vibe I'm getting.

Kabir: The strange names you mentioned are African-American/Black names. Yea those names you said are not typical when coming up our teachers dressed really well now days have no idea. I'm 65 I was in 5 grade when they tried to take God out of our schools didn't happen.
In my country town denim jeans polo or slacks and a button down shirt, or the occasional athletic t shirt and shorts if they were an athletic coach. (Males) Dress or casual shirt and pants or athletic wear (Females)
The actual reason for him pronouncing the names wrong was to play on the fact that in schools in america, teachers often mispronounce African Americans students names and just names of any person of color in general. A lot of the time they don’t even bother to try to say their name correctly and immediately ask if there’s a nickname they can call them. It’s a mild form of racism so he was trying to show if it was the opposite way towards traditionally Caucasian names. Highlighting the ridiculousness of not respecting someone’s name.
Your comment about the names made me think a funny video from a few years ago you should react to by stand up comedian Russell Peters (remember him?) titled "African Names".

When you get a hot female teacher, they will usually take two forms: the athletic and the lawyer. Both forms are nice, and you know you will have a fun semester!
This is flipping the roles. Normally it's a white teacher mispronouncing the names of Black (and honestly student with names that don't have an English origin.). The teacher then would get angry about the name not pronounced as they expected or just ignoring the student's feedback of the pronunciation. It's kind of like showing, "See how rude and dumb you look." by switching the roles. But it's done in a super funny way that I think is helpful to people who my not understand how rude they are otherwise.

For real a baby named L - a. La? L -A?
Nope! Le - dash - uh.
He’s actually imitating Samuel L Jackson’s outfit from the movie 187.
The other Jordan Peele you were trying to think the name of was Us. Brilliant movie. You should definitely rent it and watch it sometime! Have you seen Get Out? If you liked Get Out, you will definitely like Us.
I’ll watch it this weekend!
I don't know where Get Out took place but Us takes place and was shot at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk here on the ocean in the Bay Area. I been to the Boardwalk many times over the years.
You should react to some drybar comedy skits, those are amazing, my favorite is Bob Smiley
I’ll put some on my list!
Classic! You gotta react to part 2 😂
It’s on my list!
Check out the Dubstep skit and also the Ice-T dog skit.
Got to check out part 2 plzzzzz 😊
It’s on my list!
You done messed up, A A Ron! 🤣
that bit killed me 😂😂
You have to see Part 2. It’s even funnier than Part 1😂
Yea those names you said are not typical when coming up our teachers dressed really well now days have no idea. I'm 65 I was in 5 grade when they tried to take God out of our schools didn't happen.
Yes...it because of the names he is used to from the inner city.
Equanimious St. Brown is my favorite real name.
I love that he can't pronounce a single name correctly yet can throw around a sentence with "insubordinate and churlish" like a boss.
In my country town denim jeans polo or slacks and a button down shirt, or the occasional athletic t shirt and shorts if they were an athletic coach. (Males)
Dress or casual shirt and pants or athletic wear
(Females)
That sounds pretty reasonable
There is also a part 2. Also you should react to Key and Peele East/West Bowl Game Parts 1 and 2.
I'll put them all on my list!
All his films are horror films; Get Out, Us, and Antebellum.
Definitely should check out Dave Chappelle's Rick James skit and Prince skit. Both legendary!
I’ll put it on my list!
Great follow up is East/West College bowl.
I worked in the schools for 25 years lot of names the first one that came to mind was Tamare Knight ...
More of these please 😂
More on the way 😊
The actual reason for him pronouncing the names wrong was to play on the fact that in schools in america, teachers often mispronounce African Americans students names and just names of any person of color in general.
I’ll check it out!
Every school I went to they really never dressed up all of my teachers especially the guy teachers were just wearing whatever they wanted to
Teachers in the us do have dress codes depending on what they teach like I see coaches and pe teachers dressed in sweats and shorts but all other teachers dress in clothes like this
I see, so it’s not like there is a strict dress code they must all comply with
@@kabirconsiders well it’s not like a uniform it like for woman it like a length of clothes standard and type of tops they can where from what I seen though the only teachers that can get away with it is coaches and gym teachers
Every American named Aaron gets called Ay-Aron at least once a day now
If you liked this, watch their skit about the college football names
I’ll put it on my list!
I think I came back one week after was it racing or being sick and we had a substitute teacher who could not find the actual subjects we were supposed to do
And this was the last substitute teacher I had when I was in school I think it was in 12th grade what teacher came back she was upset with us but I was like I wasn't here when you made the plans for the for this teacher but okay you can be mad at me if you want but she the normal teacher had buried the actual substitute teachers agenda below a bunch of other stuff on her desk so no one could actually find it
So the whole class basically got a day off even though the class actually like this substitute teacher
Because she was like a constant
Till we ended up getting to go to the gym messing around the computers it was kind of fun day it was a relaxing day for me cuz I had no clue what was even going on
Yeah I remember when I was a kid and we had substitute teachers, it was awesome to have a chilled out day, usually we would be watching tv or drawing all day 😂
My pick for the spanish gp max verstapen and my pick for darlington Denny hamlin who is yours?
Great choice going for Max! I to think he’ll win, he will be so hungry after what happened last weekend. Darlington I’m not sure, I’ll go with Truex jr
4:24 YES!
Took me a minute but I got it 😂
yes names that make them feel more African I guess? Anyway he is transforming their names so they sound a little more "black - African American" like jaiquellin, something like that :)
When you get a hot female teacher, they will usually take two forms: the athletic and the lawyer. Both forms are nice, and you know you will have a fun semester!
😂😂 there is truth to what you say!
Thanks for breaking it down for me ☺️
Do more!!!
More on the way 😊
React to part 2 of substitute teacher.
I’ll put it on my list!

Do BOB DYLAN
Hey mate, how have you been doing?
Pretty good mate, how about you?
I'm ok. Enjoying this beautiful spring/summer Bay Area weather and enjoying baseball season and getting readjusting to going back to work in the office because we have reopened at least for staff. I'm taking my mom out to lunch on Sunday for Mother's Day. Do you guys have Mother's Day and Father's Day in the UK?
I've never heard of them.
React to "I said Bitch" by Key and Peele.
I’ll put it on my list!
Well, after his language, he would be gone in 5 seconds. Yes, teachers dress like that. My school would never have approved someone like him for a substitute. And, of course this is comedy, but they are not that stupid.
For sure, a teacher this confrontational wouldn’t last long in any self respecting school 😂
FYI. Because of slavery those names you stated are due to black people trying to have something of their own due to their heritage and identity being stripped away. A form of not having such a "white" name
I see, thanks for explaining this to me Jackie
