But what I do remember are countless people of all races and/or ethnicities throughout the developed world, because they were literally crying. A couple of these reaction videos even feature folks on the other side of the world who cannot speak English, yet, were still in tears. It has been one of the most humbling, heartwarming experiences of my life. And it has convinced me that a higher power is working through Oliver Anthony to nourish our souls. I agree. We are all going through something major no matter the race or color of the skin. And for me, when he says, "An Ole Soul living in a new world". I get GOD bumps because I feel it in my core! When I look around with my physical eyes, I can see. And when I look around with my Spiritual is x's 20. I can't explain it in words, but my Soul hears exactly what the message is. I so sincerely appreciate what you are saying here. We are all in this together. This is not a white or black thing. When he talks about young men putting themselves 6 feet in the ground he is not just talking about veterans, he is talking about kids who are growing up in bad situations, poverty, gang violence, and broken homes and all of those things cross racial lines all over the country. We all share the common work ethic and the common ethos of working to rise above our situations. We all want better for our kids, for the next generation. How we make it better is to unite and fight the powers that keep kicking us down.

I am a Veteran who served in Desert Storm. This song raises some real truths. Recently, I was unemployed (just started working this week) but I was so angry at our 'system'. I am 56, college educated, have worked my whole life.. and, as I mentioned, a US Combat Veteran - and I couldn't get any help - I didn't qualify?!? I found one local food bank that provided me with a sparse amount of food. But the Federal Govt - that I had served and have supported with my tax dollars - was not there for me when I needed a little help.
It's like he said, "It's a damn shame, what the world's gotten to.."

It's definitely a world of conflict between "us & them" in today's society. But it's not the color of our skin that separates us, we all have struggles and hard times. The people who make the rules, the "rich men north of Richmond" are working hard to make us hate each other based on racial lines, because that takes the focus away from what they're doing to us. Thats where we were in living in San Diego, CA. One decision away from homelessness. It was too expensive to stay. We ended up moving to the East coast. This song hopefully will open not only the conversations needed, unity needed, but also hold politicians accountable for the damage their doing to our country!

As far as musical genre goes, this isn't so much "country" as it is just good old fashioned traditional "folk music", the music of the people, the common folk. Harkens back to the late 40s, early 50s work of the legendary folk singer Woody Guthrie and, later, Bob Dylan in the early 60s with "The Times They Are a-Changin" and the civil rights anthem, "Blowin' in the Wind", and his epic, "Masters of War" and "When the Ship Comes in".
