I am a family member that lived in this house. The brief story is that it was indeed built in the 50s and our family moved in in the early 60s. It was designed by a very notable architect of the day. The basic layout of the house is original although the front entryway was later expanded, the glass block was added, and the full bathroom that is tiled with Jacuzzi tub was an addition later on , as was the small greenhouse. Renovations were done in the 70s. The kitchen layout is original, but the cabinets were custom-made later on along with the tiered wooden ceiling in the front hallway, as well as the stair rails. The kitchen counter and backsplash had been redone a couple of times over the decades. By the way, the little roll top cabinet in the kitchen was indeed for spices and the crosshatched vent in that upper door is where the exhaust vent is. The built-in cabinetry in the dining room was also custom designed and is made of rosewood and/or Cherrywood, I believe. The major appliances were left behind when my parents moved out, but the smaller appliances and the furnishings you see came later by the new owner. Originally, a lot of the decor was very Scandinavian influenced, and there was plenty of teak furniture. and there was some modern Italian influence as well. everything was quite contemporary. Like many homes over time, amount of maintenance and TLC required became increasingly difficult to manage. The house requires a lot more than cosmetic attention. However, it would be so wonderful if a new build would duplicate the original to some extent rather than put up a new monstrosity, which is more likely. The entire street used to be full of very unique mid century and ranch style bungalows. The video does not show the full extent of the property. At one time it was home to some beautiful trees, and a thriving garden.
Thank you for commenting and letting us know all the info on it. This is the first I have ever seen a owner comment. It is a true beauty and it shows the love and everything that was added with love for the home. ❤
Beautiful home! I can’t believe that was built in the 1950’s…somebody had a lot of money! I wish they could move houses to newer locations so they wouldn’t have to tear these gems down!
This was a beautiful home. I love mid century homes like this. The little courtyard and the back porch. Someone really loved this house. Thank for showing us.
I love this house! That ceiling in the entrance was so cool. It hurts that this one is going to be torn down. I say it a lot, but man what a waste. Its so unfortunate that more effort isnt put into maintaining these homes and just splitting up the property to build more. Or something like that
Now, this is a dream home for me. One of my absolute favorite architecture era. Obviously, it needs some updating, but I just love it. Thanks for the tour! Hurts my heart it's coming down 😢
Love this house! So beautiful, so much character. Love those wooden ceilings, the kitchen so cute. Would have to ditch the overhead fluorescent lighting and the asbestos floors and what looked like asbestos ceiling tiles in that basement bathroom. Loved that back porch that was probably so amazing on a sunny day. Where I live this type of house is sought after by buyers. I would buy it in a heartbeat, add some color and live happily in that beautiful setting. The developers seem like vultures, just ready to dive in and tear down beauty. Thanks for sharing this very desirable home Noah!
Such a unique home, very sad that it's going to meet the wrecking ball soon. What got me is just how clean and empty it is. It's like it was being prepped for a resale. And I hate to see all the beautiful landscaping & trees being torn up, they are still alive! Thank you for the video!!
It's a damned crime to tear down a place like this. Mid-century modern is so inspiring. They don't even try to make "inspiring" modern architecture anymore.
That was a great explore!! Nice room by room, easy to keep track of where you were at. I bet back when it was built, they were wealthy, top of the line people. Some of those features back then cost a pretty penny. What a great find!!! ❤❤
I totally agree; I hate when such beautiful homes that were very unique (and not the dime a dozen cookie cutter homes 🤮) are destroyed... really irks me.😡 Thank you for showing this gorgeous home.
I believe this home was owned by a Jewish family that was well known within the community for their charitable efforts. The husband, who passed in 2019 was one of Ontario's first designees of the consulting engineer title (he was an Electrical Engineer by trade). From what I can piece together, the couple seems to have left the home to move into a retirement residence at which point the family leased the home to new occupants and also attempted to sell it twice that year. A developer likely has purchased the home privately as there are no records of it having sold. One of the sad facts I discovered while researching this house last year was that the couple passed just about a month apart from each other.
This is so beautiful! Noah; you, Sir, have a great taste when choosing which homes to explore! Breaks my heart when such unique homes are set to be demolished. Homes like this one gives us some great ideas! Thank you, Sir 😊
So sad that this beauty is being demolished. I love the charm of this old house. Thanks for the fantastic tour of this wonderful property Noah. Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays 🎄💚❤️✨
I so agree, Noah! We are losing our cultural heritage by losing so much of our architecture. When I lived in the UK (for several years), there was more of a "renovate and re-purpose" approach to housing than here - not just with the old, historic homes but even with quality examples of midcentury modern (like in this video) and other 20thC distinct styles. Here, we have greedy developers who just want to knock everything down to put up high-profit housing, with no regard to architectural heritage whatsoever. This is one reason why we have a housing crisis - zero government oversight for housing development over the last few decades. The house in this video could have easily been refurbished/renovated into an up/down duplex for smaller families that can't afford/don't want a "mcMansion" and who would appreciate a house they can afford and the yard for the kids. But this would not be profitable for the developer. Developers have not been building the kind of housing we really need for a long time, and of course, they have had no real interest in renovating so that we can re-use housing, in a more sustainable manner. Municipality zoning and bureaucracy, and no innovation in real estate laws (easily allowing this kind of dual ownership by two families, or dual purchases) is another cause of our housing crisis. There is not one cause - but no government, LIberal or Conservative - has been willing to take control of housing federally so that progress can be made to fix our housing crisis. New Zealand did this - they fixed theirs. This beautiful home being knocked down is a testament to our failures. Ditto the destruction of the Cube homes you featured in another video. The city of Toronto could easily save that and turn it into a Center for the Arts, or other community purpose building.
Gosh, we have a midcentury modern house and I wish I could recycle that slate floor! I would also like that slotted teak ceiling and those railings. I sure hope someone was able to harvest anything that wasn’t rotten. What a shame this is to be torn down ☹
House looks like an office building as you walk into the front door. @4:30, that’s a bread box. Kitchen cabinets appears to be in great condition. WOW, 1 1/2 garage. Looks like a 2 car garage. Kinda weird. Thanks for sharing
Another Beautiful House to be demolished, I can’t believe anyone wants to tear down this place, I wish it was mine, thanks Noah, for showing this house👍👍😎😎🍮🍮, Merry Christmas Noah👍👍🌲🌲🎄🎄
I love Scandinavian style. ❤. I also love the front entrance outside.❤ You always have cool houses to explore. This one was beautiful. 🥰 God Bless and be safe.
Some of the lower Kitchen cabinets appear to be original. During the 50's higher end MCMs did have stone and steel backsplashes. You can buy a toilet paper holder like that. There is a few methods to remove paint from brick. The gray bathtub isn't that old and you can purchase gray tubs in a few shades. The cabinet in the basement bath is original.
Glass blocks are something you either love or hate but I absolutely love them. They provide light while giving you privacy. The slats on the ceilings in the stairway and the master bedroom are creepy, I'd always be afraid of what might be inside them that would fall on my head, (spiders & grunge) ugh. I think that was a bread box at 4:27. That sun room is perfect. I wasn't expecting to see any furniture in there. Amazing all those sky lights and they aren't leaking. I actually like that bathroom at 15:20 but I'd choose larger, plainer tiles. It's really good to see a property that I haven't seen before and it's not vandalized. Interesting they had a ceiling support pole in the preserves, cupboard in the basement.
The architect was Jim Murray I believe. The house was built in 1957 (ish) and some design changes were made in the 1970’s. None of the furnishings in here are original.
Hell no! The basement did scare me. I don't know who would live in it with the low ceiling, mechanical equipment, and the sound the equipment would generate! The skylights and windows are cool, but I can imagine how hot this house would be in the summer. When the residents get older, they will not like abundance of light like that. I think the house wasn't friendly for users. Having said that, it is still a unique house.
I commented sometime ago with details as I was a family member that lived in this house. The mechanical room was no louder than anything in any other house. it was not especially hot in the summer as there were sunblocking window covers that could be used as needed. and it broke our hearts when my parents finally had to move out. All that light is one of the things they missed the most. As I say, the video did not show the backyard/garden area, which was very large and had stunning trees around the perimeter and a magnificent magnolia right by the living room window.
You always find the neatest houses to show!! Awesome...I would love to have that sunroom and planting area....it sickens me to no end that they demolish everything for cookie cutter structures...I hope they repurpose and reuse the items in the house..be safe exploring, thank you and have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🎄🎉
It reminds me of selling girl scout cookies door to door when i was a child or trick or treating there are many ways to get a peek at different styles of homes
Hi Noah! I love watching your videos! You and Ethan both love you the Glass blocks. I do too. That house should be saved. That fireplace is dull looking. I do like the kitchen. I've always wanted a sunroom in my house. Great video!
That's pretty interesting how the power is still on usually the developer who purchases the property's will eventually cut the power off so it won't waste electricity just sitting abandoned with power on.
I love that the house had a proper entrance, the ceilings are not six metres high and the kitchen was in it's proper place at the back of the house. I hate to think what will replace this lovely house.
The kitchen is directly next to the garage at the front of the house. The window over the sink in the kitchen was looking out at the front entrance so there is no possible way it was at the back of the house.
Are we sure this is 1957? Seems more like 1967-70. It seems they always demolish the nicest ones, the not so nice are left to rot. Thanks for the tour Noah and Merry Christmas! 🤠👍 Note: 3:45 Quasar is not pronounced as it appears, it's pronounced kway-zar, not kwa-sar.

Big open spaces, unique❤
Thank you for commenting. Though I would like to know where is this house? Don't have to give the exact address just the general area.
It must have been beautiful when you folks were taking care of it!
Pourquoi ne l'avez vous pas occupée au lieu de la détruire ?
Demolishing this house should be a crime. It should be restored, and preserved😑
Beautiful home! I can’t believe that was built in the 1950’s…somebody had a lot of money! I wish they could move houses to newer locations so they wouldn’t have to tear these gems down!
Such a shame to demolish a time capsule like that home. You are doing a great job, thanks Noah!
This was a beautiful home. I love mid century homes like this. The little courtyard and the back porch. Someone really loved this house. Thank for showing us.
I think it is sad they are taking this house down, but I hope they take out the appliances or anything that could be salvaged.

Love this house with all of the wood. 'd also love to live in a house like that, very cool explore!
I love glass blocks and even more so, I love mid century style!!!!!❤
What an awesome house! Such cool features. Would love to see what it looked like when it was brand new.
Thanks for doing such a great job documenting this house on such a rainy day😅😇👏🏻✅👍🏻.
The chrome thing in the entryway of this house was actually a vase. It was super cool!
THIS HOUSE IS GORGEOUS !
It's a damned crime to tear down a place like this. Mid-century modern is so inspiring. They don't even try to make "inspiring" modern architecture anymore.
Wow. That house is so beautiful. I was just amazed all the way through. The newer homes just do not have these unique details.
That whole house looks awesome, but the bathrooms are astonishing..
This house WAS amazing! Loved the "sun" room and even the off light fixtures!! Such a cool place you found! ❤
That was a great explore!! Nice room by room, easy to keep track of where you were at. I bet back when it was built, they were wealthy, top of the line people. Some of those features back then cost a pretty penny. What a great find!!! ❤❤

Real nice house here Noah. Bummer it's going to be demoed, what a waste. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
So sad that this beauty is being demolished. I love the charm of this old house. Thanks for the fantastic tour of this wonderful property Noah.

I love the old homes like this
That is such a usable house minor things to update/fix, but has tons of possibilities. Sad!
Wish they’d build the new houses like these gorgeous ones they tear down…

Love this house, I grew up in the 50s and 60s. Love the big band era music on one of your shorts. I think the song was In the Mood. Love dancing.

your videos showing different homes
Beautiful house. I love mid-century, and this is a great example. Sad to see it go.
This house is beautiful and very clean love it. Good job. Wish someone lived in it

Very cool house! Such a shame they didn’t fix it up! Love the entry ceiling!
Amazing! Love vintage midcentury modern style.
I would hate to see this torn down! It's an amazing piece of history.
Beautiful home........love it!
This place is amazing!!! I will never understand why they get torn down. Sell it to someone who would love it.
Love the gray bathroom ❤

That is gorgeous....pity it's being demolished
Great house such a shame it's getting demolished to good for that great video thumbs up from Australia
That might have been an air b&b. Love it. Merry Christmas 🎄.
I love how he pronounced Quasar.
Awesome!
I'm pretty sure the ceiling tiles in the basement bath were for sound proofing so upstairs wouldn't hear the sound of flushing.
I would have loved to see this home in its hayday.
The yellow pendant lights are by Danish designer Svend Middelboe. One example of it is right now for sale for $457.
That's pretty interesting how the power is still on usually the developer who purchases the property's will eventually cut the power off so it won't waste electricity just sitting abandoned with power on.

Hi Noah from West Virginia USA 🇺🇲👋 Merry Christmas 🌲
A nice large home, I bet it cost a fortune to heat. Merry Christmas Noah 🎄🎄👍👍❤❤
What a beautiful house, I could easily live there
Merry christmas noah, thanks for the great videos sir.
Beautiful home...loved the tree
Really beautiful, why do people abandon such houses ...
Superb house, thanks Noah!
Can't believe it will be torn down what a shame
Are we sure this is 1957?
Seems more like 1967-70.
It seems they always demolish the nicest ones, the not so nice are left to rot.
Thanks for the tour Noah and Merry Christmas!
🤠👍

3:45 Quasar is not pronounced as it appears, it's pronounced kway-zar, not kwa-sar.
This house is a solidly 1950’s architect design. Further indications: kitchen & bath finishes.

There are some abandoned casino hotels that are currently being demolished about an hour or so away from me. I was trying to get there to see them in their full glory, but I was too late. 😢
Love this house.
Quite a unique and wonderful home. It has a very Frank Loyd Wright style of minimalist design. The only real structural damage is in the two solarium areas. New carpets, paint and a lot of elbow grease would bring this home to livable condition very quickly. A great example of an era. A home doesn't have to be built in the 1800's to be historically and architecturally significant. A crime to see these homes chewed up by an excavator.
Where is this? I would love a mid century home. So sad they're tearing it down. I'm a huge plant person, that greenhouse and all the windows throughout.
The property is in excellent condition. I have seen videos where the houses are in poor condition. Roofs have collapsed, and floors have holes everywhere. They don't build them like they used. Weird how the power is still connected 🤔🤔
Wow that's nice I want it
Those cabinets in the kitchen are definitely original. The counter and backsplash are replacements.
Geez if they are just going to trash, i would like the washer and dryer and that bed in the basement is so nice. That was not cheap why would they leave the beds? So many of these places have things that could be donated.
Great house, luv the features!
I love this house . Where was it located? I would love to find the plans for it.

Very nice house❤
Nice place. I would use it to hide from zombies.
