It was my first time making jam, I wasn’t sure about the wrinkle test, so I kept on boiling, but my blackberry’s went a bit hard.....I think I boiled it too long! Never mind, you learn by your mistakes. Now I’m about to attempt some crab apple jam.
I think not, trying buying a jam thermometer I always use one, checking on cold plates waiting for 2mins for wrinkles wastes time and if you don't turn pan off while doing the checks you can over boil the jam.sorry its my way, never had a problem.hope that helps.
Hello, just found your video.I have never made jam,but your recipe looks easy for a beginner like myself.Do I not need to put jars in a water bath.Thank you for shAring.
Your jam did not pass the wrinkle test and you can see it is too runny. You should have boiled it a little longer. When you push your finger through the jam it should leave a clear trail behind and not fill in. It will of course taste fine but will be too runny.
I'm not sure exactly how long it will last for but it should be a good few months. Once opened I would refrigerate it but no need to after you first seal it.
The lemon juice is there for the pectin, blackberries are low in pectin, however you could put in a cooking apple which would be high in pectin and leave out the lemon juice
So I made this yesterday, it was very good but I did change a few things and I have to say I HIGHLY recommend doing one thing differently for sure: remove the seeds. I removed probably 50+% of the seeds with the strainer I have (couldn't find my sieve) but it was still not nearly enough. What I did was use 1200gr of blackberries, 800gr of sugar, 50gr of brown sugar, 3tsp of lemon juice and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon. It tastes amazing but I am going to buy a sieve, re-run it through it and jar it again. Its just too much hassle to deal with the seeds when eating it.
Bacteria? Are you normal? You can't pick berries without waste, or are you just obsessed with rinsing? P.S. You rinse all the flavor down the pot! Good luck to you!
I'm gunna make that this weekend with biscuits. Thanks for the great info!
Thank you for making this video my blackberry jam turned out amazing thanks to you.

Very nice video thanks for sharing
I love it and I have BlackBerry today and I cook it tomorrow.
Umm what kind of soap? Dish soap?
Looks delicious
I was just taken back to my childhood when we used to pick the blackberries.
looks good
I love your sink!
How long are you cooking it for the second part once you've added the sugar?
I use pectin sugar when I make blackberry jam. Lemon juice doesn’t seem to work for me.
Very nice! I can’t wait to make some. 😊
Can you use coconut sugar instead?
That's what I want to know?
We just used it with some Trader’s Joes coconut sugar. Delicious
would adding a couple of cubes of jelly help set it ?

No definitely not, and you'd upset any vegetarians in your family!!
Would be perfect on a hot slice of cornbread with butter.

That is to each individual preference
Runny jam is better jam
Does your jam need to keep refrigerated, and how long does it store for?

Never heard of using the oven to sterile jars … also I use a water bath to process
Quick question could you do this without lemon juice
MGTOW Properties no you cannot because it will not be jam consistency

im glad you have a nice life and partner you look happy just to be there
Still bitter from losing the colony.
how does salt and cold water kill bacteria that boiling at incredibly high heat doesn’t?
I think I was meant to say bugs and not bacteria.
When I add salt the bugs float to the top..
@@finesugaractually salt is a preservative and used as such before all we have to preserve. Lemon and salt are the tried and true!!
I use one part vinegar and three part water let stand for five minutes drain and rinse.

Stop. Please. 😂
Woah
Your first mistake was adding heat
davidsonnow So, Einstein how you gonna make jam without boiling it? Tut! Tut!
All that sugar changed my mind. Just tossing my berries in the freezer and I’ll spread the fruit on whatever.
What did you think jam was made of?
Did you just added 2 kg of suger in there!?!?! Seriously!
Sorry, you should never put salt in there even after washing you completely changed the taste of that blackberries!!
That was the most anaemic looking toast I’ve ever seen…
