Certain communities in Greece are also embracing this type of economy. It seems to work on a local level.

This is amazing. On a local level this could easily work anywhere.

Money is an IOU, pretty much we do it the same way except with real stuff (e.g. pigs)... not paper ... and in this community you need to clear the IOU as son as possible... you may engage family to clear the IOU. And You better help cause next time it might be your turn.

Please change this dumb title. It is only Pentecost Island featured in the video, do not say the whole Vanuatu does this because we don't. My father never sold my sisters for pigs.

No, it's when you want to marry a girl and she says yes, you pay the parent's in pigs

Well basically the bride price (number of pigs ,yams ect)that you pay are like a custom/traditional form of marriage and the price varies form island to island

Bottom line, everyone has kids for their own selfish interests. Here that is refreshingly out front.

As a Ni Vanuatu, I want to thank you for that comment. What you said is nothing but the truth. People in Vanuatu just have daughters so they can make money out of them when they sell them through bride price. I see this everyday

    20% of people use it.
    20%!
The title is misleading stating Vanuatu blah blah.. 20 % doesn't equal the whole nation.
1/5 of the nation blah blah blah...
4/5 of the nation uses Money not pig tusks..

Do you feel better spreading your negative vibes?
Well I surely don't receiving them.
Now go and work your job to pay 'the man' until you die.
