The Masterdon Committee - 1982 - Funk Box Party, Part 1
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 10 фев 2011
- Classic old school hip-hop joint from The Masterdon Committee, also the unofficial theme song of Sundance 2011. Ask yourself-- exactly what is a funk box? What makes a funk box conducive to throwing a party? And what the hell is a masterdon, anyway?

parties will NEVER be the same again, this was truly the best era those privileged to experience it can cherish it. simply a natural vibe

Princesa..Master Don...My life
The early '80s is my favorite era for Hip-Hop.
A Funk Box, or Beat box is a drum machine. This is the early 80's, If a hip hop crew had a drum machine it was a game changer on the block.
Top 5 party record of all times. How can you not get up and dance when this comes on. Still the jam to this day.
Right
Mc Pebely Poo used to live across the street from me in the Bronx NY. Where it all began! I'm just a old school fool.
WBLS Rocked this joint numerous times every day!!!!!
YEP.....I definitely remember that back in 1982!!
this was played ALOT on 107.5 WBLS back in the day....
I got ALL my music from BLS/KISS/WHBI and just about everyone Ma and I have a 90 min mix from Marley (who was way better than Red Alert but not better than Chuck Chill-Out) rocking Masterdon/Mantronix/and a ton of other's......that $hit is insane. I have a home studio and sometimes I do boiler room gigs with a ton of ppl over and I'll mix this joint and they lose their f'n minds.
True and hot97
Just a random comment: A show called Snowfall brought me here & I was feeling this song and In the first season Auntie Louie mentioned that same radio station when she was talking bout opening up her own club & in season 4 this song was playing in her club lol. I now feel the vibes. 🔥
Omg this song brings back memories of W.D.A.S. 105.3 and my cousin Scott
1970-1989 was the greatest era in music - whether soul, jazz, rap or rock - and will never be duplicated again. I hate what music has become. Thank goodness for youtube for allowing us to venture down memory lane..
WORD UP i always say that. Your SOO right.
I'm going to disagree I say 83 to 98
I agree, music was purer
This song will make your joint pop out of socket!! 🕺🏾🕺🏾🕺🏾

PHILLY baby. Blockparties The Plateau Hotel Phila Dancing Skates After Midnight etc.
AFTER MIDNIGHT!!!!!!
@@hgaston66 I used to hang out in the DJ Booth at After Midnight with DJ Mike, Terrell and JoJo!!
Cosmic Kev used to kill this joint in Wagners Ballroom Perry P used to change the words of the rapp part and we thought that was his song, but that was the days.
Master P and Usher, owe Masterdon and the crew royalties!
💯
StopBeingAKeyBoardKiller&MousePadMobster! Gangster G.... is my cousin. P-nut is his nick name
yes ma'am
One of the most underrated hip hop crews. They used to kill it with their routines and Jam Master Jay bit the way Masterdon used to cut "Mardi Gras" on Peter Piper. RIP to both of them.
StopBeingAKeyBoardKiller&MousePadMobster! AN IT'S SPELLED OWN
this is my all time jam!! truely old school
Machere Pritchett
This is a classic that unless you were living and heard this live at a party and seen the joy and sheer pleasure this song gave to the party people you have no clue how truly special this jam was. B-BOYS & GIRLS take your place in history none of the new generation of hip hop rappers or DJ’s can feel this like we did. We wish you could have felt this but you can’t. You missed a glorious time in HIP-HOP HOUSE & CLUB PARTIES
Oh man, Masterdon Committee, The Cold Crush Brothers, Malcolm MaClarin.....early 80's was nothing to play with especially in Harlem NY.
aldeb456 damm rite ya tu sabé word up it was nothing else like it to hear & rock to these jams at block party's or the Saturday night mastermix na'mean.

*Malcolm McLaren* was the english taylor and manager for the Sex Pistols (in fact, their wife Vivian Westwood invented the english Punk look) .
Mr. Magic and The World Famous Supreme Team defined that era

Sir Brown from Jersey City says she was a rare talent and a cool person
I remember when they did use to practice in the rec center on 144th street and 8th ave. Also “the five shades of Black” they later became the back up singers for Oran Juice Jones.

The Masterdon Committee - 1982 - Funk Box Party, Part 1
We saw them "PLENTY" of times in Philly! An Incredible Crew! They should've been as popular as Grandmaster Flash & The T-3!
Take one part classic Roland TR-808 drum machine, add fresh MC's on the mic along with a hook, and you got a basic 80's Hip Hop party record. Simple and successful.
Classic joint; along with Nairobi-Funky Soul Makossa
Kevin Payne im about to listen to that right now!!!
@Kevin Payne add to that: -"Buffalo Gals" by Malcolm McLaren, -"Breakin Bells" by Crash Crew, -Al Naafysch" by Hashim

This used to pop!
LMAO!! Sorry I guess I am just so old. the funk box is referring to the drum machine that was used to make the beat they came out in 1980. before that the only records were spun and mixed and cut to create new beats in hip hop a DJ would extend the break beat for the mc to rhyme. now the masterdon you got me there like being the boss maybe the master boss lol anyway thanks for posting this. I was twelve when this came out and I still know ever word. thanks for preserving the history
Actually this song came out 1982. Maybe 1983!

True indeed.I was 13 back when this came out in 1982.truly a classic.
This sounds like a proto Miami Bass tune
Yeah this song made me wanna go out to the clubs. I would smoke a joint out the window of my room and hear this on WBLS and then it made me wanna go out to the clubs. I had moms record WBLS for me with my Akai cassette deck and i went out to Roxy till about 3am, but then walked 8 blocks over to Fun House, smoked some dust, hit the punch Bag game in the Funhouse, and chilled in the balcony and listened to the best Club DJ ever- Jellybean Benitez. YOOO BEAN!!!! with some wet dust bags in my pocket. LOL..
I haven't heard this in months. I forgot how dope the beats are!

1982, I was in the 9th grade Newtown HS, I remember hearing this at USA Skating Rink on Roosevelt Ave, Queens, watching this cute black chick doing a continous foot shuffle, just vibing on this crack beat. This beat will knock the stains out ya draws. Who from Queens - USA Skating rink?
Definitely Bronx party classic
