Aside from misaligned sights, another reason for low left/low right is shot anticipation. Slightly tipping the gun down as the trigger is being pulled. A subconscious attempt by the shooter to keep the muzzle down during recoil. Diagnose this issue by mixing dummy rounds with live rounds. The muzzle will dip on the click on the dummy rounds. Once this is determined, the shooter can do exercises to correct it. It's a relief to learn the reasons for shooting issues.✌🏽
I am a righty and was shooting low right (.22). Became better with higher velocity rounds (CCI Blazer) because the bullit leaves the barrel earlier, so less interference from anticipation movement? When I learned to surprise break, things really improved. I am convinced it was the shot anticipation that caused the low right impact.
I'm a long-time shooter who has been vexed with this issue. I've known I'm adding movement to the gun when breaking the shot. I found that my finger placement on the trigger ("too little," "too much," "just right") made ZERO difference. It doesn't matter AT ALL where my finger is (in my experience). It was coming from somewhere else. It was coming from the other fingers. "Milking the grip." "You're milking the grip!" Yeah! I know! How do I AVOID that?!? Nobody ever said what to DO about it... until this video. It was one of those head-smacking "D'oh!" moments. Grip it tighter! Looking forward to trying that at my next range session this weekend! Thanks!
Thank you for this information. I was so frustrated constantly shooting low and left and I couldn’t figure out why. This was exactly what I needed to know. Loving my P 365XL with Romeo Zero!!!!
I notice that too my first shot is always super close and accurate but then it starts going low and left afterward. I always thought it would be the opposite lol where I wouldn’t be that accurate at first but get closer as I shoot but nope not really 😂😂
That makes a lot of sense, thanx for the info!!! I have a huge problem with shooting low left at times, actually a lot of the time.I will give this a try for sure!!!! 🎯🎯🎯🎯
I was so happy to find this video. I purchased a Sig P-220 .45 and was shooting aggressively lower left. Looking forward to seeing improvement when I go back to the range.
Thank you for the advice and presentation. I'll focus on that next time. All my shots went low right (lefty here). I tried to put my finger on the trigger differently but didn't see any improvements. Now I see the issue is somewhere else. Thanks!
Bro I went to the range today and almost all my shots from 35 ft away were low left. From 25 and 30 ft the low left shots were there but I was more consistent. I’m a new shooter so it’ll take some time but fuck that shits annoying.
Just need refresher 1911 grip firm squeeze i was jerking the trigger it took 200 rds get back on trac getting old sucks breaking bad habits thankyou sir your a pro
Didn't really have this problem with my 45 but my 10mm i was hitting low left. Followed your advice and bullseye the 1st shot. I think it was the extra weight with it being full size.
That's a different take, I've heard from a couple trainers that low left shots typically come muscling the gun on the shot. Which made sense to me because I was gripping so tight, I thought I was pushing the gun down with my dominate hand. But when I loosened up a bit it got worse, so I didn't think that was really the issue for me. I will observe this the next time I shoot.
Im right handed but mine land to the right, got a little better after the video but theyre still going to the right a little bit best i know to do is aim left to hit where i want
Yea, this is aggravating. Everyone tells me something different. I just saw a video and the instructor said the opposite and to shoot with the pinky OUT because that finger is the one which causes alot of the problems. Now this one tells me to grip it harder with the last two fingers. I've been shooting low left for the majority of my career in LE for 23 years.
Any tips on shooting slightly uphill? I swear I couldn’t hit anything but dirt lol. It was maybe 10-15 degrees upwards and I was using a S&W 40 that I don’t really care for but got a good deal…
@@danielgreen6547 hmm, i wish i understood that better...Im experienced and grt shot(for bkgrnd), If I dont do it that way I have to concentrate too much to adjust rather than do my thing, when I adjust sight Im key holing.....but my sights r pushed right....idk
Just went to the range this morning with my Mom. I’m consistently having this problem. I’m a new shooter, with an ok group 6-8” but it’s mostly low and to the left. Thank you. I will try and work on this.
My friend blames the sights. Refusing to hold the pistol properly, stand properly and insist on having the target 15 yards out. Target looks like Swiss cheese and he’s returning the pistol cause he everything is low left. When I fire his pistol at my laserlyte target, his red dot is spot on.
Sir...First off, thanks for that video. I will give it a try. I do have a question however. Assuming that someone is shooting a pretty tight group either low left or low right, how can you actually determine whether it's YOU or THE GUN? Having an idea or just plain knowing the answer to that I would think is paramount to getting the problem fixed. If it's the operator, then the operator needs to work on technique. If it's the gun, then that needs to be addressed. If you were to be incorrect as to what the problem actually is, you likely set yourself up for potentially creating problems that may not have existed in the first place.
After 45 years of carrying and mostly shooting J frame monster snubs I am positive that my flinch/anticipation is due to subconscious body motion to absorb recoil when I shoot any striker fire gun, which of course is my present carry gun for the past 10 years. The dummy round test just shows the body action and the variation of the amount of flinch shows how the mindful state varies. You can almost measure internal stress as the shot placement goes widely off target at certain times. There are some wonderful videos that really go into the neuro aspect of this. Grip and stance play small roles in my case. One of the most amazing test is when I start shooting poor I can sight the target and close my eyes and actually do better when firing. The anticipation of the travel of the finger, and hitting the wall pressure, pre thinks the actual firing and you tense and move forward to “absorb” the coming recoil. The biggest test is to take my ruger .22 pistol and fire off 50 rounds perfect and then place my sig 365 in my hand and then see how perfect I fire it. The use of the .22 kind of calibrates the brain to pull, wall, fire, in a relaxed timing sequence. Then going back to my 9mm 365 becomes near perfect. Another point is that usually the flinch comes after and early few shots when the brain is learning the bang portion and tries to “ help us” by pre thinking and tightening up in response but has the wrong timing. Just my own experience and i have been wrestling with this for decades and finally have it solved. BTW i never had this issue shooting a standard revolver, even with single action magnum rounds. The darn striker fire mechanics really messes with your brain. If you wired yourself to double action revolver heavy trigger, the striker fire is really a mind teaser .
This was me today man had a great grouping just left side of my target I was disappointed with myself

Good points !
Literally the best explanation I’ve ever heard. Can’t wait to apply this to my next range day !! ❤
I'm going to steal that phrase "adding movement" for my classes. Thanks.
This is very helpful, thank you!
Excellent way of explaining how to correct a very common issue and loved how short and sweet and to the point the video was.

Phenomenal advice I’ve never seen someone explain it using a magazine like this before. Simply brilliant thank you so much!

Solved my problem, thanks.
Awesome! We love to hear it.
THANK YOU! Been trying to figure out why I have been low left. Will try your tips on my next range visit.
SAME! it's been driving me nuts. When I saw him demonstrate, my jaw straight up dropped
me too
Great advice. Never thought of that.
That’s me. I can hit bullseye the first shot at 20 yards then I start shooting low left. I’ll have to try this next time.
Lol been there!
Thank you so much I was gripping more tighter with the left hand. I am a right hand shooter now I see I need to grip tighter with both hands

Glad it helped!
Good demonstration of why people shoot low left/right
Thank you for a to the point style video minus bravado and b.s., subbed!
Thank you for the advice and presentation. I'll focus on that next time. All my shots went low right (lefty here). I tried to put my finger on the trigger differently but didn't see any improvements. Now I see the issue is somewhere else. Thanks!

Thanks it helps a lot 👍
Great info 👍🏻 because everyone ( new & old ) shooters needs help from time to time.
That was so insightful. Thank you.
Just signed up for my first Sig classes. Can't wait to see you guys at the Florida facility.
Great. Thanks for the information. I will be trying this new method.
Thank you for a very, very useful tip
Good observation, and this tendency is aggravated even more when stress, i.e., a timer, is factored in.

Thank you. I will give this a try. I always shoot left. I will literally have a half dollar size hole in my target one inch to the left
It worked, most of my shots are now centered. Thank you for this video!
Great Stuff! I was shooting low and left this morning, that's why I'm here.
I have this issue because my pistol grip is so small with my CCW pistol. I have to really focus on my grip. It's annoying lol
Thank you.
Thank you so much I don’t shot low left but shots go a little left at times I’ll work on this tomorrow!

Great tip, I was doing just that , low right as a lefty. This tip should help
same as a lefty
Excellent 👍 video
Man this made so much since. I thought it was the way I was squeezing the trigger or I was too tall aiming down.
As a left this was driving me nuts. My grouping has been phenomenal but I am not hitting what I am aiming at! This makes a lot of sense!
I thought my new pistol was broken, but then I switched hands to weak side and hit dead on and knew.
wowoowzers this was my exact problem!
Im right handed but mine land to the right, got a little better after the video but theyre still going to the right a little bit best i know to do is aim left to hit where i want
Just got my first compact,,, same problem ,,, NOW I know,,, thanks ! I was almost ready to sell it, lol
No it’s all the pistols I shoot so definitely not the pistol.

Thk you
Мы всё это знаем и умеем.
Sir i need help with sight alignment and trigger control for the academy text. Any tips?
I’m right handed and tend to shoot to the right. Elevation is good, but the shots hit to the right.
Same
🤔
I went to the range yesterday everything was pulling left
That’s me. Left-handed and constantly shooting low right even though I could swear I have a good grip and no movement
I still think it’s the gun!!! 😜🤪just kidding! Great video
Yup same
question, why not adjust the sights right n hit where u want with your natural grip?
Because the consistency won't be there, especially when you speed up.
@@danielgreen6547 hmm, i wish i understood that better...Im experienced and grt shot(for bkgrnd), If I dont do it that way I have to concentrate too much to adjust rather than do my thing, when I adjust sight Im key holing.....but my sights r pushed right....idk
Add a female and your video will be number 1! Great info straight to the point!!!!

practicing today to prep for CCW and this happened. I am left handed and every shot went low right
Wow..thats whst happens to me !
When ever my gun is inaccurate I always assume it’s me at first I don’t blame the gun until I learn how to shoot it correctly, I need practice
My friend blames the sights. Refusing to hold the pistol properly, stand properly and insist on having the target 15 yards out. Target looks like Swiss cheese and he’s returning the pistol cause he everything is low left. When I fire his pistol at my laserlyte target, his red dot is spot on.
Also thanks, doesn’t sound like much but this might be the rip that saves someone’s life
Thank you 😂
💗
Holy shark fins Batman
Yeah well,in my case theres something wrong with my gun. I'm not sure what it is,but my old pistol had the same problem

Bet
OK but if I focus on the front sight it will bring my aim back on target. If I don’t absolutely focus on the front sight I go low left.
I shoot my Glocks better then my m&ps , with the M&p shield the gun shakes as I press the trigger and my Glocks that’s not the case
There is only one way to shoot accurately........... sight picture on bullseye, smooth trigger squeez, do not anticipate the shot, AND dont blink.
When I hit the bad guy 5 times at low left he is as dead as if I hit him between the eyes.
How bout shooting right, I'm right handed
Awight awight awight
I was having this problem yesterday at the range and was thinking my sights were misaligned I will use a stronger grip next time
