@@jaypeso1980s I know you're not asking me, but man this album just hits the spot for me. Starting to listen to more Meyhem now, since I had only heard him on Bronson's stuff before.
Everything I knew about Mayhem was from his feature verses on Actions stuff and his cameo's on Fuck Thats Delicious. This was a solid first impression though, Midnight Silk probably my fav track
Yeah, I knew him mainly from his features on various griselda albums. I've always seen him as a feature artist so I think this project will be great for his career. I love Midnight Silk with that beat change! My fav so far has been Big Money
This is my first full Meyhem album. First listen I couldn't even hear what he was saying because I was so drawn to the production. This video helped me catch some of the rhyme schemes and bars I missed and I'm warming up to Meyhem's voice and delivery a little bit more. I actually thought the Hologram song was an interesting palate cleanse (with all the gourmet food bars we were getting), and I'm glad it was on there. Great review!
Preciate the love!! Yeah I think this the best place to start for Mayhem - this better than any of his other projects I heard both from the production and from the rapping. Madlib and Muggs are both legends and they brought it fasho. As good as I thought Mayhem was, they were the stars to me. Haha he def sound like he been chain-smoking black and milds since middle school 😂 Ion mind it though when he rapping rapping! And I feel you on the hologram song.
Man I'm glad you listened to this one. I was sleeping on Mayhem but his feature on Bronson's Blue Chips 7k was insane. I really enjoyed the Daringer x Mayhem project from last year too. Keep crushing!
I’m late af brodie but yezzir!! It was a must listen with muggs and madlib but mayhem made it worth it! I rocked with the features and production from the Daringer joint last year but I thought it had bangers for sure. Which one you rocking with more outta this and the Daringer joint? I gotta go this one!
Preciate that brotha!! Shoot this gave ME a new perspective on Mayhem haha. When I saw this project announced, I thought out of all the great rappers they've reached worked with this, they coulda picked someone better. And while I do think they coulda picked plenty of other people, Mayhem brought it
@@zncuentertainment712 yezzir! I thought it was solid but I thought the beats and features carried it. I think the rapping on this album is considerably better than black Vladimir, and even tho I love Daringer - I think this production def better as well
@@BSideRapReviews agreed 100%, I think this project is better overall. Another Mayhem track that stays in rotation though is "Bonus Round" with Roc Marciano and Action Bronson, weak chorus but dope song.
Had to bro! Had to peep of the strength of Muggs and Madlib collabing alone, but Mayhem brought it as well. Yeah Big Money is my fav song on the album. One of them ones felt like the one closest to Muggs signature sound which I'm a huge fan of. Fresh Out The Water been one of my favorites as well. I'm not actually that surprised but I ended up liking more of the Muggs produced joints than the Madlib ones
It’s a vibe Fasho but I didn’t really care for it. The production was great but man I just don’t think Larry June is particularly good. Def has songs I’d throw on a playlist but it’s just a ton of really long stretches where he does nothing interesting rap wise, whether is bars, rhymes, flows - nothing. Al carries it to a point and like you said it’s a vibe. Gives me Dom Kennedy yellow tape vibes at points which is nostalgic to me. But even as good as Al is I don’t think it’s enough variety to keep me engaged for 45 mins. My fav blog Hip hop golden age has it as the number 2 AOTY so far but I have it nowhere close tbh
I feel like Mayhem Lauren is kind of like God Fahim, when you compare him with the people he collaborates and the circles he hang in. He's generally better than God Fahim though, but not quite in the elite where some of his collaborators sit. Honestly the bars I heard when I checked out this album felt a bit too boring to me, I couldn't get into it, but your review has me hyped to go listen to it right now! DJ Muggs and Madlib though, that's a reason in itself to listen to the project. I would have played through it at some point. I just found the album Kilogram by Muggs and Al Divino the other day and I'm wondering if Sadhugold was with them when Muggs made those beats, some of that shit is out there! You should create a Discord server for your community bro! Chopping it up with folks from the comments here about this type of hip hop would be some shit. I am a total nerd about this music lane, more places to discuss would be fire imo!
Yeah bro I think this is a great analysis! I''m with him, I put him in like that mid tier but there's a ton of other mid tier guys who I'd put marginally above mayhem (at least up until this). Like I'd throw flee lord, daniel son, jae skeese, etc in that category and all of them are better than mayhem to me. Even his joint with Daringer, I thought it was mostly daringer and the features that made it enjoyable. Only difference with him and Fah is sometimes I'm not sure if Fah is even mid tier lmaoo. This album wasn't perfect on the rapping side but I saw a ton of improvement. After relistening, I def understand cus the punchlines were few and far between but I saw a significant upgrade in his lyricism and I was a fan of that. Brooo that's actually a huge goal! I want to get one started soon - like before the end of the month soon. Only thing holding me up is I've never even used discord before so I need to take a sec to research what the heck I'm doing and what I need but I should have that up soon. I'm in the same boat, i could nerd out bout rap all day!
Came away very satisfied with this album. I didn’t love his project with Daringer last year, but when I saw he got Madlib and DJ Muggs to produce this, I was hype for this one!
