I honestly have a hard time thinking of a better movie. Fight club is without a doubt one of the greatest films of the nineties and one of the best movies of the past 30 years. Edward Norton and Brad Pitt are two incredibly gifted actors and they gave the best performances of their careers in this movie. It should be in the library of congress.
In my 26 years of living in this world, I have never seen this movie. I've always heard people talk about it and how incredible Brad Pitt is in it, etc. I always thoughts that this movie was simply just about fighting and boy when I finally watched it yesterday, I had a complete epiphany. I feel like I watched this movie at the perfect moment of my life. I have never related to a movie as accurate as Fight Club. Currently going through a tough time... i guess you can say im at a strange part of my life. After watching this movie, I realize that there are also a lot of people that are going through the same problems. I havent stopped listening to this song since watching the movie. Fight club has replaced Interstellar as my favorite movie of all time. What a masterpiece.
Me 2, i ll never forget the reactions as it comes up in the end. Song was our favourite before, not known so very far in the 90s. Me and best bro where close to breakdown after this comes on top tothis uninxpected masterpiece🎉
Just added to the effect, just like when The Trailer Park Boys put Bobcaygeon by The Tragically Hip over the end of their first movie. Both songs immediately make me think of the end credits and what great movies they were.
I KNOW RIGHT it was literlyy incredible the ending felt so surreal, like the song just described exactly how i felt in that moment ill never get over the perfection of adding that in the end. I genuinly think the end was my favourite part because of that song.
Fight Club is one of those movies that hits the spot without missing an inch of it. The nameless narrator (Edward Norton) is an insomniac office worker who lives a materialistic life. From the very beginning the movie comments on the capitalist nature of society by portraiting how consumerism moves the world, but is unable to give relief in the end. Flipping through catalogues of new furnite for his apartment were the narrator's only personality trait. To fight against his insomnia he starts attending to support groups. By lying to people, pretending he has conditions he does not have, the narrator finds relief - the emotional acceptance he finds in the support groups is enough to allow him to sleep at night. The emotional complexity of the character is nothing unrealistic. David Fincher makes a subtle, yet clear, comment on the nature of materialist societies where no one really listens to each other nor care about each other. The system doesn't care about anyone, the distance between people - especially enhanced by how they function in the capitalist world - is a major plot point. However, when the narrator is finds someone who's a faker just like him he loses his emotional escape - " Her lie reflected my lie. Suddenly, I felt nothing. I couldn't cry, so once again I couldn't sleep". Shortly after Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) is introduced into the story, the main character loses everything he valued. Deprived of his possessions he seeks solace in the company of a man who is the polar opposite of what he is. If the narrator is a worker who's way too worried about his condo and his job, Tyler is a freewheeling soapmaker who couldn't care less about all those things. The contrast between them is clear; Tyler refuses any consumerist logic from the narrator whilst making he see how futile is the lifestyle he was leading - "Right. We are consumers. We're the by-products of a lifestyle obsession." The characters here portraid are so different because one of them is free, while the other is not. Tyler, in a nihilistic way, helps the narrator realize that his existence is meaningless enough - something that is clearly displayed in the capitalist world - that all they can do is giving up everything. The self-destruction promoted by the Fight Club is ironically what allows the narrator - as well as many other frustrated men - to find solace in their mundane life. Little by little the narrator is stripping himself off his previous beliefs about job, about behavior and the value of things. It's interesting to note that the narrator doesn't quit his job immediately, picturing how hard it is actually to cut ties with the system - he eventually does though. Many subtopics are discussed through the movie. We see the narrator and Tyler, now living together, talking about many things. They talk about how both had an absent father, how both lacked a sense of direction in life at some point and were told to follow the common sense - "He says, 'get a job'. So, I'm 25, I call again and say, 'now what?' He says, 'I dunno. Get married". The nature of the system we live in tells us what to do since the moment we're born, while both of them agree on that, they also agree that this is all a great waste of time. It's important to notice though that both them had no significant connections with other people, especially with women as Tyler comments - "We're a generation of men raised by women. I'm wondering if another woman is really the answer we need". As the club grows the movie delves even deeper in those reflections about what really matters in life - "Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy s**t we don't need". Tyler becomes the source of inspiration for everyone who attends to the fight club; everyone is much more like the narrator, but they're striving to be more like him. At some point, Tyler decides that the club is meant to be something bigger - what he would call Project Mayhem. While the original Fight Club was something kept like a secret idealized to give some sort of freedom, through self-destruction, to its members, Project Mayhem is about declaring a fight against the system. The frustrated collective consciousness was the straw that broke the camel's back - "We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pi**ed off". However, the narrator starts to slowly go against what Tyler was meaning to do - kinda of recalling a bit of his past self and a sort of respect for the authority of society - and when this happen it's the moment the movie reaches its climax. The genius of the movie is displayed when we discover that Tyler Durden and the narrator are the same person, they have always been the same person. Due to his declining mental health and his rather meaningless life, he created an alter-ego - someone capable of manifesting everything he wasn't as a system abiding person. The contrast created by Tyler's different personalities is amazing to watch as the truth unfolds; and the ambivalence created when we discover the truth about Tyler Durden is even more marvelous. This movie portraits very well how a person can reach the extremes of their mind in a system that overlooks the relevance of your very existence - when you become just a number, just a braindead member of society, having your hopes and wishes constantly ignored. In the end Tyler recovers his sanity only to see that his actions can't be reverted - so he only stands by and watches. The final scene is beautiful; what could be bettar than watching the system crumbling before your eyes while "Where is my Mind" plays? This movie is a masterpiece and it is so entrancing because of how real it is - in the end the movie shows many things we know and think but tend to keep hidden. It is provocative, funny and thrilling and most importantly: It is so damn real. The plot aged perfectly and I don't think it is going to get old so soon - this movie is a must watch.
i read the whole thing and you did a great job. Even though this movie goes into many more ideas that you didn't mention. There are so many interpretations.
'We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, movie gods and rockstars. but we won't. we're slowly learning that fact and we're very very pissed off'

@@kartikpanwar7127 When it comes to our soft side, what we need is empathy. Now 20 years to the month after Fight Club was released, we get Joker, which also is controversial, but deals with mental illness. Joker probably couldn't have been marketed if it wasn't based off an intellectual property (IP), but that IP pulls them in. Mental illness, including depression and psychopathy, is a real concern that society must address.
Norton is tremendous. First saw him in Primal Fear and was blown away. American History X incredible too. But this is a masterpiece. So many good movies from the start till 2010 I missed I'm almost glad most modern movies are bilge. It's like they've taken a break so we can discover the gems we missed and rewatch those we didn't.
"The things you own end up owning you" This one was actually kinda eye opening for me. I've lately been using social media and technology of many kinds to a point where they where actually using me.
"My Dad never went to college, so of course its real important that I go. So I graduate, I call him up long-distance and say, 'now what?' He says, 'get a job'. So, I'm 25, I call again and say, 'now what?' He says, 'I dunno. Get married.'" "You can't get married. I'm a thirty-year-old boy." When I first heard this while watching the film I thought they made a mistake. Silly me.

I thought I knew the name of the main character What a surprise when I realized that I don’t even know his name I don’t know it even after a year after watching this masterpiece The reality is, he doesn’t have a name He is you You are Tyler Durden. You make this 1.5 hour trip to just realize what sets you free.
@@bat_man1138 as5454 is just a bunch of words and numbers that look pleasant to me. with "edgy" i mean that i was acting like i discovered the philosophy of life. I have alot to learn and i'm not nearly as close to make confident abstruse statements. life experience is gained with real actions and it has nothing to do with an underground movie about a manlet finally making out and setting off a terrorist attack. It's a good movie, but it's not worth basing your attitude towards life or something like that. I hope i made my point clear
My 12 years old daughter discovered Pixies on her own... Just can't believe she is fan... also Artic Monkeys and so many other good bands... and she speak French with no accent... so proud of her,, wait until you see her dancing...
Just finished watching this movie and I gotta tell you that it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. This is one of those things that I was missing from my life.....
Not a copy, of a copy , of a copy , just added to , example the race on star trek Trills , our souls are comparable to their symbionts that are transferred from a dying body to a new body while the symbiont carries all the memories and characteristics of all its previous hosts lives, that's what our souls are like ( well some got the "old souls" some got the new souls ) then we continue the cycle like a never end story with the choice of go to the beach on pg37 or explore the cave pg17.. I've never seen the movie , so idk if you were quoting from it or if that's your belief in what we are.
Whenever I have a mental breakdown the melody/beat of the song would play in my head not being able to find it thought finally I can kill myself satisfied knowing what song it is. Thank you so much you’ve helped me.
Its crazy that no other movie has ever made me feel the way this movie made me feel. After finishing this movie it influenced my way of thinking and overall changed me it's a absolute masterpiece and will always be my favorite movie.
This movie resonates stronger with each year that passes, its was wayy wayy ahead of it time in the 1990s. Only now people start to see that this movie is right.
Fight Club, The Matrix, Cloud Atlas are the movies that moved something into my soul. I was an 18 years old when this movie came out. I was full of hope for my future, but this movie helped me to understand that what i was chasing was fake. Then i remembered, almost 25 years later, when my father died and i was with my feet on the air and my head on the ground, that i am fighter and i'm not giving up.
If you have watched this first time and you didn't felt like this movie is a masterpiece then you need to watch this second time! Because the first time you won't be able to understand what is going on! This song is a masterpiece too Perfect combo
[Intro] Oooh - stop [Verse 1] With your feet on the air and your head on the ground Try this trick and spin it, yeah (yeah) Your head will collapse if there's nothing in it And you'll ask yourself [Chorus] Where is my mind? Where is my mind? Where is my mind? Way out in the water See it swimming [Verse 2] I was swimming in the Caribbean Animals were hiding behind the rock Except a little fish bumped into me I swear he was trying to talk to me, he said "wait, wait" [Chorus] Where is my mind? Where is my mind? Where is my mind? Way out in the water See it swimming [Verse 3] With your feet on the air and your head on the ground Try this trick and spin it, yeah Your head will collapse if there's nothing in it And you'll ask yourself [Chorus] Where is my mind? Where is my mind? Where is my mind? Way out in the water See it swimming [Outro] With your feet on the air and your head on the ground Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Got depression for 2 years, after meditation, this was my first movie post depression and i thought this movie about illegal boxing. Instantly my favorite movie.
I can't sleep without a movie on in the background , fight club was one I chose a lot and I'd always wake up at the end and fall sleep again before it finished , never knew the song but it felt like home, still does

One of the greatest movies of all time. I was truly blown away.

What a masterpiece.
same here, watched for the first time at 28, also at the strange time of my life… and gyaat dayumn🙏
i relate the exact same even the whole interstellar part
The perfection of using this song in the end scene and during the end credits still never ceases to amaze me
Me 2, i ll never forget the reactions as it comes up in the end. Song was our favourite before, not known so very far in the 90s. Me and best bro where close to breakdown after this comes on top tothis uninxpected masterpiece🎉
its like halcy on at the end of nortal kombat;)
I know right
Just added to the effect, just like when The Trailer Park Boys put Bobcaygeon by The Tragically Hip over the end of their first movie.
