You’re a perfect example of the old saying about a CX. Drive one for 10 minutes and you won’t want to drive it ever again, drive one for 2 hours and you won’t want to drive anything else again. I know the DS seems to get all the love and money where enthusiasts are concerned but, seriously, the CX is truly a superior machine in so many ways. It was definitely let down by its quality of construction, can you imagine what sort of price they would command if they’d been made by Mercedes Benz in the 70s/80s, there’s no way I’d have been able to afford one. Keep working on improving it Seppo, I’ve owned one for almost 7 years and still, when I park it up and walk away, I can’t resist turning round to look at it, that’s surely the very definition of a mobile work of art.
you're going to travel in a time machine if you drive any 5 door C5 (1st saloon or break, 2nd break/estate), the amount of betterness and connection with all the past generations of Citroën is amazing, and it can be much more underrated, v6 or diesel or inline 4 petrol or whatever... so much room a nd confort...and new safety or even low fuel consumption for smaller diesels...

Lovely to see a CX GTi back on the road. I used to have a Mk1 CX Gti, green with chocolate interior, along with electric sun roof, and drum instruments. Fuel consumption was about 20 miles per gallon. The engine is based on a 1936 design that predates even the DS. However cared for the engine will last for ever. They can do 300K miles . The only problem I had was that the engine would cut out on the overrun when you went to change down into third, but only sometimes. Then the car would not restart for a day or two then it would run fine until next time. My garage gave up on trying to find the fault, so I worked on it myself. Finally traced it to a tiny split on the underside of the air inlet flexible pipes. The split would only leak if the engine moved on it mountings as when changing down hard. The loss of back pressure due to the leak meant the air flap metering valve would misread and the fuel injection would get the mixture wrong making the engine cut out. Easy to fix, but it took ages to work through the injection system to find it. It looks like recharged spheres including accumulator will restore the magic carpet ride at any speed. Above 100 mph the venturi underbody starts to work and you can feel the car glue itself to the road with downforce. The excellent drag coefficient means the fuel consumption drops very little even if you drive the car rapidly. Change the oil often, otherwise the big ends are at risk.
I loved watching your CX series. 2 years ago I purchased a 88 CX GTI Turbo 2. I need to remove the engine in mine to replace the leaking head gasket and gaskets at the base of the cylinder liners. I removed the a connecting rod bearing and a crank main bearing and all the Babbitt is gone but the crank journals are still nice looking. Previous owner replaced all the spheres and the pump and rear brake lines. He also rebuilt the brake calipers. CX Basis is where I bought all the replacement parts including a full exhaust system and reproduction 16” turbo wheels. Thank you for providing me with a resource when I get started with my repairs. I live in the USA and there can’t be but a handful of the CX model in North America especially the turbo 2 model.
I very much enjoyed following along on this CX 'ride' having owned both an Athenia and a Safari model back in the day, it brought back fond memories, I've always liked Citroens owning a total of six models, the CX was my favourite.
Such a cool car, such a cool resurrection. You make me envious, my CX GTi is tucked up until the roads are not salty here in Scotland. I am so looking forward to waking her up and going for that first drive though. So much stuff to cover in this video, you didn't have the chance to mention it but the braking demonstration also shows the clever front suspension geometry well, with anti-dive, so the car doesn't stand on its nose under heavy breaking, it just hunches down at both ends which helps prevent wheel locking too. And the zero caster geometry that Citroen could use with the DIRAVI as it has powered return to centre: That allows the car to suffer a blow out at speed and drive straight on, not veering across the road, same with ruts or verges, the car is not pulled into them as the geometry keeps the external forces from acting on the steering system. Amazingly safe by design. Oh, and the load compensation on the rear brakes that uses rear suspension pressure to determine brake force distribution. The CX really took all the best bits of the design ideas from DS, GS, SM and rolled them into a superb car, engine limitations accepted.
So a tall Danish man working on a car, bending over to reach inside the engine bay, sometimes you wish your car magicly could raise it self up in a proper height to work on .

From 11:11 It's totally normal that the car drops down before rising up when setting higher ride hight. It's because of the motor that turns to the set ride hight position and it's a circular motion. Thus the rods to the hight regulators gets pushed and pulled and in this sequence and at a point the rods pull the rods to a lowering position before the ride hight motor stops at the selected hight which is in your example "high". Think of it as a windscreen wiper motor. :) It's positioned in the under carriage under the passenger seat side and fastened on the sub frame. From 15:45 It's possible to change rear wheels without a jack by just setting the ride hight to highest. But if you would ever try this on the front it's just isn't possible due to the high front weight. But as you mentioned, you can use any object under certain areas to support the chassis and then just lower the car and the wheels in the front will rise up. Don't forget the engaging the hand break. I think the middle point is somewhere under the front seats. At one time I had my CX on jack stands in the front and just leaned on the front... the car was just about to tip as the rear wheels lifted in the air. ;) From 30:40 You should be able to stay as low as 0,8 liters/ metric miles. I had that on my older CX Break. And that's a larger car. :) Check your lambda voltage from the free connector next to the battery. :) The correct expected voltage is printed on the hood. Adjustment is made on the LMM. It's normally a covered hole with black round plastic lid and underneath is a hex screw. :) That road between the islands must be tricky during winter time!? Icing comes to mind and whops, down the water you go. hehe Great work and cheers from Sweden! PS. CX was my first car when I got a driver license in -89. It was a -75 CX 2000 with no DIRAVI.
Did you know ? The deep screw holes in the door handles are actually meant to be filled by coloured plugs, making it a flush look. Howver in my CX those plugs fell out over time and were lost forever. Looks like yours suffered the same problem. The special control switches are prone to burn out when she grows old. Implement relays for all headlights to ease off the current draw thru the swithces. The battery leads to the fuse box is a disaster, causing numereous problems. Modify it for a "normal" design with as few connections as ppossible - and now suddenly the ever slightly glowing charging lamp stays out, together with other Gremlins ... My 22TRS did around the 12Km/L - this is a design problem you have to adapt for. Great report of your journey with the CX and truly inspiring. Your perseverance with this truly unique an quirky car is much admired. After watching this I'm just itching to finish some winter jobs on my ID19b in order to to get it running well again before next spring . Unfortunately lack of time is in the way of things. Your channel is way high up on my list and I never miss an episode (along with upndown and hubnut). If I observe correctly, your cx has color code ac421. Just like my ID. Any chance of you ever giving a DS/ID the SG treatment? It was so ahead of its time It might also be considered an 80's of 90's car ;-).
I own three CXs with three more working through my father's estate. Plus SMs and an XM. I've owned a bunch of CXs over the years, and two DSs inculding a Chapron Cabriolet. I bought my last DS, a DS23 built for Bahrain, in 1980 and thought it would be the last car I bought. Months later I tested a CX 2000 with manual steering and bought it right away, selling the DS. Never looked back, will not have a DS again despite having a large collection of cars. The CX is likely one of the best cars ever designed, just don't abuse them. The SM is amazing, but not as refined as the CX. The CXs steering is tighter, more responsive to small movements off center, and the CX brakes are much quicker resonding (the rubber button the SM has takes away the instant response that the CX has). The CX seats are better than the SM seats. And the CX is far quieter than the SM. With all that said, the SM is such a cool car to drive around, it catches the eye of people who are not car people where the CX is less dramatic. Good to see you document the revival of this CX, you are providing some much needed video assistance to others. Good luck with it.
Still the technical best and most comfortable car i have had till now was my 1977 2200 Pallas… the steering and the breaks were awsome ❤❤❤ and with this frontlight you don’t need LED. The satellites i would like to have today…
Nice! Watch those salty roads, though🙂. Years back, I remember friends with an 8 year old Ford Cortina mk 3 who stayed up in Northumberland (N E England) for a week and drove back and forth several times to Lindisfarne island, which you get to by a tidal causeway road that is only usable for part of the day, covered by seawater at high tide. Impatient people (like them) sometimes drive through the seawater when it is shallow enough. A few months later the car badly failed its MOT due to structural rust and had to be scrapped...
Yea... but I think there is less saltwater on that road then the rest of the roads in DK at the moment... the amount of salt used on the roads to prevent icing is horrific! Sometimes the road is white from salt!
Loved following your work and progress on this GREAT car . I owned one back in the early 80s . Such a distinctive drive . Every journey felt like an event. I loved my CX ,and it took me time to get over it . Thanks so much for rekindling great memories.

Great video, really enjoyed it. Great to see you bring back this magnificent car from the brink of extinction. I’ve owned a GSA, an AX, BX, ZX and Xsara so always have a soft spot for old Citroens.
nice project, great work and an excellent car. looking at the leather seats, this car must have had some love in the past before it was left to rust, because the seats are in really good condition, considering the age.
Wow, look how many subs you've got now! You'll eventually reach a point, when your sub count will begin growing far more rapidly. I really miss the more moped side of things.
I mean, it's winter...The time when most moped fans are working on bikes...While the weather doesn't really permit long rides, and can put a halt on riding completely, depending on how you feel about snow, and ice. Moped shop season is mostly in winter, for those of us, further from the sun, getting everything ready for spring/summer events/rallies/etc. That one Danish moped club that are really into Puch bikes, have a year packed with events.@@forjonsakesolvethepuzzle4539
Awesome story - thanx for sharing! Greetings from a hot almost-always-summer South Africa. Imagine a CX in summer heat! Have to have an aircon and tinted windows
I used to own two CX 22TRS. Amazing cars. You felt like a king or president driving them. The suspension and road handling is incomparable. But the main reason for driving them and today missing the experience is the good looks of a Citroën CX. My first one was black and the second a metallic light blue. I currently drive my 12th Citroën or 13th if I count my moms, which I borrowed indefinitely when leaving home ;-)
9:58. Why don't you use tin with a propane torch to fill. It will be definitely be much quicker to do and more importantly you don't need to fill, sand, fill in imperfections from step 1, dry and sand again. Plus in the event of selling it, there be no body filler. Just a smooth metal surface. Fantastic work btw.
Sweden here👋 Thanks a lot for a interesting video. I had 2 cx turbo 2,one was tuned to more than 220 HP. Best driver car I ever had. I also had a estate and a pallas with the 2400 version. Today I drive a - 92 xm24v and a - 98 xm24v. I also had a gs pallas - 78. But that tuned cx turbo 2 was a amazing car. Important to use Michelin trx tires. If you use anyting else it becomes a less enjoyable car.

BTW the body of the Citroen BX was actually created for Reliant as a futuristic replacement for the Scimitar. Jonathon Haines decided not to pursue the new Reliant and the body design was sold to Citroen and became an absolute smash hit no doubt Haines kicking himself all the way on that one as he wanted to put Ford Kent and Pinto engines and even a Cologne V6 for the top of the range version.

It's a beautiful car just as it is now, and a really nice vid. I almost bought a '87 CX GTI automatic in 2013. But didn't because of general quality issues and rust (one tailgate hinge rusted off) Also the GTI's are the less reliable ones or so they say. I bought an '86 Audi 100 avant diesel instead, I still have it to this day. But when I see a CX I still feel like I want one.
One of my dream cars - there's not a part I don't admire. The steering wheel, the stereo position, the seat pattern, the dash etc, not to mention the suspension and style. Don't sell this one! Still don't forgive you getting shot of that lovely datsun! - Really impressed with your panelwork fabrication too - like to see more on this in the future. Amazing video dude, congratulations for your work. I think CX is the best cittroen never made, and is my fauvorite car. I will like to know like you the car´s mechanique, but i know only to clean and change filters and oil.
All the CXs that were imported by CXA in the US were recalled due to the signals not self canceling. CXA got around this by taking some of the foam out of the rear of the steering wheel, adding a metal plate and a sensor on the column that would trigger it to cancel.
try 2 mode driving. you are either accelerating at 80% power, or maintaining a speed/driving with load. They can be mighty inefficient with gentle acceleration.

It's certainly been a bit of a challenge to get the car back up and running properly, even if it is still trying to be a pain with some Because French wiring issues... :P
@@SeasideGarage it probably never fully worked... but wiring issues on an old car can't be blamed to the country at all, today you won't find any "indestructible" new old car, even if you find a 0 miles example in a Museum, it will need a full service, gaskets, tune-up to be minimally reliable and not self-destruct in some miles of driving...
10L/100km from a 2.4L is really not that bad in my opinion. My bmw 2002 (100hp, 4speed and a lot lighter) got the same. My dads Ford Taunus 1.6L wagon (75hp, 4speed) also got the same. Also, this car will do better on a long Autobahn roadtrip because it is at speeds over 100km/h that the low drag coefficient really pays off. I used to drive taxi in a CX prestige TD. That car was impressive on longer roadtrips (200+km going to Amsterdam airport and back)

Would love to try an SM one day... I will never own one... prices are to high now... Got another XM coming soon also! :D
I love this channel!
Best wishes to you from the UK
Loved following your work and progress on this GREAT car . I owned one back in the early 80s . Such a distinctive drive . Every journey felt like an event. I loved my CX ,and it took me time to get over it . Thanks so much for rekindling great memories.
Congratulations on your videos and am so in awe of your restoration skills and knowledge

Just discovered your channel. This old 🐸 loves those old timers that were giving a lot for a reasonable price. You did a fantastic job making it functional again. 💙
Such a cool car and glad to see it back on the road and running well. Citroens are quirky cars and the CX is a fine example of Citroen weirdness!
Nice video! This car was so ahead of it's time in the early 70's when it came to market. Nice to see you giving it some love ❤
I'd never heard of 'SKIL' tools until I started following this channel, because you are so impressed with them I decided to try some out. They haven't arrived yet but I'm sure they're going to be fine.
Great to hear! I am impressed with them!
I agree! Mo' mopeds please!
Morepeds will come! But its to cold now! Got a Simson waiting!
The beautiful pics reminds me to go to Helnæs again soon. Love to see the CX running.
Tin contains mostly lead.
Sweden here👋
Thanks a lot for a interesting video.
I was really impressed at the roof repair, you are very talented
No way GTi awesome 😊 thanks for this video
How high is the consumption? Thx and enjoy this great invention 😊
Thanks for sharing the cx journey with us!!
Love this thing! Looks like a Star Trek shuttle on wheels...
It is! ... Hello Wader!
@@SeasideGarage leather interior seem more like inspired in some old Action/Fighting Movie from the 80s/90s, made with real gym hero skin from the abs (abdominal muscles... not BOSCH braking assistance ABS invented by FIAT)
@@SeasideGarage Wrong profile pic for my comment, I know 😂
I loved this car and its gimmicks, one of them being that you could hear it rusting away...
Ha ha... I know what you are going through, I owned my '84 CX Familiale for 20 years, a love hate relationship, but Iove won, RIP Sad Sally the Citroen.
Really good and very interesting thank you 👍
Creat video, I have had three of these in the past, would be great to find a good one now.
love the CX!!!! looking forward to sseing more of it
I'm glad I just found this channel. Great job so far 🫡
BTW the body of the Citroen BX was actually created for Reliant as a futuristic replacement for the Scimitar. Jonathon Haines decided not to pursue the new Reliant and the body design was sold to Citroen and became an absolute smash hit no doubt Haines kicking himself all the way on that one as he wanted to put Ford Kent and Pinto engines and even a Cologne V6 for the top of the range version.
yes, cars from the 80😍
It look very good now. I remember i say it looks ugly first time i see your CX, but after the cleanup and polish it looks very good as a 80’s Citroën😀
its was the ugly duckling... now its a swan.. :D
Veliki pozdrav za tebe.
Imam Citroen xm 2.0 16v 1995. Prilikom starta motora, pukla mi je plastična posuda koja stoji na aluminiumskoj usisnoj grani. Koji je razlog toga. To mi se dešava već drugi put. Auto nema ugradjen plinski uredjaj. Vozi se na benzin.
Veliki pozdrav iz Srbije.
Dejan.
Thx for sharing 👍 greetings from germany Christoph 👋 👋 👋 👋 👋
Yay! CX content!
Good story. Looking forward to many more failures and repairs.
Dejligt at se den store Citroën på landevejen igen - smukt køretøj og meget misundelig🙂
Nice and very confortable car! Saludos desde Chile
...are a engineering man to do that work ! ...so colpiment ! ..that car in the time past was of hight level ......ALFISTA DOC 72
Fantastic car, well done 👍
I've had a late '86 cx gti turbo 2 in that colour
Fantastic achievement! Looking and sounding beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
I'm very impressed. I subscribed instantly!
I even love the font of the numbers on the speedo ....
Congratulations on a brilliant video summarising all the work you put into the awesome CX. Long may it continue giving you happy motoring.
Fantastic, thank you
Great summary of the work you have done so far 👍
A great tribute to all your hard work. It's great to see it out on the road and that you are enjoying it so much. I'm quite envious of you with the CX.
Nice work mate, thanks for the videos. =)
I have a cx gti in the uk.
Just repaintwd it purple, not with a brush tho!
I paint cars for a living.
Great video for such a great car! Love it ! Thank you for saving this one.
Det er jo en ægte "Love story"❤ ... Der er til at forstå!
Fantastic!!!!!
Love this series
What a cool car!
Amazing video dude, congratulations for your work. I think CX is the best cittroen never made, and is my fauvorite car. I will like to know like you the car´s mechanique, but i know only to clean and change filters and oil.
Really great to see keep it up good car I only run citroen love them
Fabulous car . I’ve driven most models .
Excellent
Enjoy
Nickname your car Lazarus ......... it was sooo close to being made into bean cans - well done
Flaring tool: I believe you covered that tool in a video some time back. I can't seem to find it. Perhaps you can provide a link.🛠
All the CXs that were imported by CXA in the US were recalled due to the signals not self canceling. CXA got around this by taking some of the foam out of the rear of the steering wheel, adding a metal plate and a sensor on the column that would trigger it to cancel.
interesting!
ooooow. The US government didn’t trust the americans to be able to turn it off themselves??
Based on your welding approach I think you've seen some of Fitzee's videos!
try 2 mode driving.
you are either accelerating at 80% power, or maintaining a speed/driving with load.
They can be mighty inefficient with gentle acceleration.
Han visto el renacer de viejos clasicos pero electrificados? El mini cooper ev, el Fiat 500- 600 ev Renault 5, por que no el turno de un citroen Cx 2400 Ev?
Looks amazing! Loving the series. How is everything going up untill now! I really want to look into getting a cx but I am not anywhere near as recourseful as you are. Would this be a fun project car/ daily driver if everything works?
Awesome!
Seppo do you think Citroen could make a “ No feed back “ for my wife 😁 she is far too opinionated 😂 , if it works on steering sure it will work on her 😉. Joking aside love this project and your doing a grand job of keeping this luxury has been car on the road 👌🏻.
Hi. What Color-Code is that?
It's certainly been a bit of a challenge to get the car back up and running properly, even if it is still trying to be a pain with some Because French wiring issues... :P
It will never be fully working is my guess! :D
That's an unusual brake pipe flaring tool, is it specific to Citreon?
Yes :)
That car was impressive on longer roadtrips (200+km going to Amsterdam airport and back)
2.5 but yea its not THAT bad.. but i was getting 7.5kml to begin with... now around 9...
