Looking forward to seeing the next video for this! I have a 2009 F800GS which I did a full strip and repaint of frames/swingarm last year. I wondered about splitting the engine and going for a preemptive timing chain and guides change but it seemed to be ok when I checked the valves. That and the engine split is mega scary for me! It’s so helpful to see how you’ve gone about it as I’m sure it’s inevitable at some point. Also to hear of the problems and pitfalls you’ve faced and the solutions to overcome them.
Thank you for the great vids.
    Ride on!

How much is the material for this kind of rebuild ?
Only the parts for minimum damage to maximum damage rebuild ?
    I would do it myself..
Want to buy a gs 800 with 60 k kms, looks and sounds like new and is cheap, but maybe one with 15k kms, the difference is 3500 bucks ...
    Regards
    Albert

It depends on the damage, so for me to get back running (not powder coating the frame or cosmetic bits) i needed valves which cost £100 for a complete head 2nd hand (9k Miles on it), timing chain new £80 pounds and associated guides and gaskets (complete gasket kit was £300). So about £600 but that doesnt include tools or time, which is the most expensive resource! :) Best of Luck! You'll have a blast off road with either!

      Hi Ed
I too bought 2011 F800GS in state for $2000 , Exact same problem as you jumped timing in intake valves and broke all the guides into pieces I took the head off no damage today pistons, question Is there way to replace the guides without tearing Engine apart? , The engine still in the bike, I was thinking take the clutch side out to see if I can see any plastics? , i’m assuming that you’re able to take out the bolt that hold chain guide from clutch side ? Thanks
