Former 19k (M1A2 Armor Crewman) here. The communication they're using here is outstanding and is still used today. When the loader loads the round and yells "Up" - he is telling the gunner that the breach is loaded and armed. Before the the gunner fires, he yells "On the way" which is communicating to the TC (tank commander). The TC is finding targets and pointing them out to the gunner. This is the exact same as modern tankers work. Same lingo, same terms. As some people ask "Why not leave the tank when it's disabled". A tankers motto is: Death before Dismount. Having been deployed to Iraq in my Abrams, this statement holds true as the sun. When you're deployed and all you have are the 4 people in that tank, and you are in that tank nearly 24 hours a day; it's not just your tool, but your home, your family. The bonds you develop with the crew and the tank itself is something deeper than most people know. I didn't see this movie for a very long time. I do try to avoid movies like this for personal reasons, and I had to very gingerly step into. (Watching almost all clips, and then finally watching the movie). This movie is by far the best representation of what happens (as far as commands and communication) inside the tank. As far as everything else, mostly movie drama. I am only commenting on the realistic communication that happened inside the tank, the emotional connection to other crewmates, and the tank itself. By the way, if an Abrams was in that same spot. It would be good game, and game over for the Nazis. :) Anyway, know that you are loved, and cared about.

That man always reminded me of this movie but it’s crazy to think he did all that and he was only like 17 at the time or so.
@@FuttBuckerson when a movie sells itself on being about historical events it has a responsibility to be somewhat accurate. Unfortunately there are uneducated people who will take this as a history lesson.
-We prepared for them? - Ye just last thing is to grab ammo form outside the tank - Nah fuck it I need a reason to make heroic run out in middle of hell. Yeeehaw
My take is that they kept it outside to make it look more authentic that the tank was unusable. However, I agree even with the little room they had keep the ammo inside for the Alamo stand.
Good thing the 20 some panzerfäusts we saw them marching with earlier despawned and they all just decided to run at a tank, otherwise this battle would’ve lasted 20 seconds.
Or they accidentally left it in the truck and it blew up which totally makes sense right? Why not hand carry your anti-tank weapons incase of an emergency where you can just rest your shoulders, arms and back a little more by putting it in the truck.
"Target is a single disabled tank that's completely stationary." "Well, I'm at a loss here. I suppose we'll try a few frontal assaults with our light firearms and go from there."
This scene doesn't make sense to me. 1) Why did the Germans try to shoot back at the tank with MGs? 2) Why did the US tankers leave any ammo OUTSIDE OF their tank before the battle? I would've hoarded everything I could inside so I wouldn't have to leave unless it was at the absolute end and dire situation.
1. They didn't have an anti-tank gun, and only a few Panzerfausts which not everybody can have, so they pretty much didn't have a choice. 2. Most people will tell you that there wasn't enough space in the tank, the ammo boxes were scavenged, or they needed more space for the main cannon
Only reason I can think of for the use of an MG was to try to knock out the Shermans periscopes and main gun sights. If you can't penetrate the tanks armor, try to blind it. The thing I question is why did it take them so long to break out the crate of panzerfausts? Unless they had to rescue it from the rear of the burning truck?
@@Exasperatus That, or they were really behind the line, so it would've taken them quite some time to get it up to the front near the positions where the soldiers were shooting the tank.
@@Exasperatus It would be unethical to shoot a Tank with a MG. Their armor are thick as heck, however the only exception is for tank destroyers. In ww2 Field manuals, they usually instead use explosives.
I loved the teamwork aspect shown in the tank. From commander to loader, and then gunner. The communication adds to the chaos. I will say these actors earned their spots in this movie well.
I love how quickly it gets dark in this scene, so much smoke from the burning trucks and buildings but also the amount of smoke coming from their guns makes this scene top notch
If you knew how much smoke and chemicals those tanks and bullets and bombs produced you can turn day to night real quick that is true The smoke will fog out the sun they shall fight in the night
LOL for sure because of the smoke😂😂😂 if there would be so much smoke to get it dark the German soldiers could have made a breakfast or better Oktoberfest 50m away. But Hollywood thought it is not enough that german veterans were raped by a single imobilized Sherman, no then need to be raped many hours. LMAO Imagine US troops would be stopped this way.
These are prolly actually eastern front guys not necessarily good units but by the time the us got past the Elbe most of the western Wehrmacht troops were giving up
@@lucasguenesmenezes6416 yea that’s a fact they’re SS by uniform markings but I’m just saying not every unit on the eastern front was high quality. It was just that so many German units who had seen DDay to the Bulge were capitulating. So the Germans had to pull eastern front troops regardless whether they were good or not.
The horror and brutality of war, and yet, the kindness of a German soldier was shown, I loved this film for that. There’s loads of stories of honourable German’s that weren’t radical Nazïs, they were just young men being told to do the wrong thing. I suppose they all were sadly. RIP all the good men and women that were doing the right thing, in the wrong place at the wrong time 😞
About 80 years later we can judge what they did, but not who they were. They were men and women of their time - just like us. Educated and trained by Nazis from early childhood on, we won´t have done any better, I guess. The more remarkable it is that a few of them were capable of scrutinizing the system that raised them.
yeah that was not tactically sound at all. they should have fired from a distance and saved the close range charges for... if they ever get close enough
Tactically yeah but practically maybe not. Now you have to be more accurate. If you fuck up you waste more ammo. And we can already see they can't exactly aim the turrets. More like hip firing through a peep hole. Just my opinion though. I could see an initial attack of spraying into them on the road from a distance since they're bunched up and then waiting for them to get to the distance they are in the movie for more accurate shots though.
@@ethansmith5560 they were all walking in formation directly down the road in front of them, they could have taken out an entire line of guys and the first truck with one 76MM shell, and you wouldn’t really need to aim the MG’s because they were so bunched up. They definitely wasted more ammo by letting them disperse. But that wouldn’t have made such a tense final battle lol
Nah it’s a movie error. See, those tracers are CGI. You’re right they should have been able to to mow everyone down...but uh, those are movie extras and firing tracers rounds into them would have been a way to get the move makers into jail
Of all the "unrealistic" comments, I see none mentioning that granades+hatch=GG.. Or that the germans can simply sit in the blind spots of the machineguns (which are fields more than spots) including the roof and 3 sides of the tank itself as the turret MG can't aim that low.

The Germans are literally me and my team when there’s a tank in Hell Let Loose and no one is playing anti tank Edit: 9 months later. This comment had no right to get 2.4k likes holy shit
A lot of people give the Germans a hard time here for not dealing with one tank easily, and I agree that it would normally be easy pickings for a force of this size. However, there are a number of factors to consider. The initial surprise caught the Germans completely by surprise and probably killed that commander in the first volley which shocked the Germans into going for cover which pushed them away from Fury. Another thing to consider is that these Germans troops, while most certainly veterans and well equipped, had spent a better part of the last few months in a nonstop fighting retreat and were probably exhausted from marching, fighting, and being poorly fed and rested. and exhaustion can do a lot of things to even the most veteran of units. What’s more, they were reluctant to break out their only anti-tank weapons (panzerfausts) to take down one simply tank though it became apparent that it was necessary. Remember, the Germans were planning to fight a lot more troops after Fury and their want to conserve their best resulted in them making stupid decisions that got many of their men killed.

@@rinvonrinnomi8525 IDK what the hell u talking about. The Tiger on BF5 is a fucking beast compared to other tanks. If they get you at a short range ur fucking done in like 1 or 2 shots max
Love this scene. Only one issue. You'd think while they were preparing they'd have remembered to bring ALL the .30cal inside the tank so as not to have to open the damn hatches during the worst of the firefight. Oh well... hollywood. The M4 Sherman was primarily designed to fight infantry, so this isn't quite as unrealistic as all that.
Only thing I can think of for in-film reasons is that if the tank had the burning body and such but no boxes of ammo or such outside, one of the soldiers coming up to it may have gotten curious/suspicious and called it out to the officer, maybe spoiling the ambush. Once they set up the burning body they got inside and hid.
No, the Sherman was designed to fight other tanks. At the time the Sherman came to battle the only tanks it was expected to encounter were Pzkw I-IV. It was more than a match for these German tanks.
The "real" Fury was actually more intense. A Mark IV in WWI got stuck in a ditch and for three days the crew fought off German attacks with their personal weapons and (I think it was) one of the tank's machine guns while being bombed by their own artillery.
Yes, if the idea is to keep the enemy as far away as possible. (Gives the enemy more time to react and opportunities to out-flank the tank) No, if you want to inflict as much casualty to the enemy as possible. (Less reaction time for the enemy and keeps the element of surprise to your side) This is basically what the Japanese did during the Battle of Iwo Jima. If the Germans in D-Day started firing the moment the allies landed, the Japanese allowed the Marines to build up on the beach and to get closer before opening fire.

@Rabbit T. the verses he mentioned are out of context, for example in 2 Kings this is the part were Israel was ruled by wicked kings, this is not God's Will. I know there isn't any questions about this, but I'll just put it here, when God ordered the Israelites to punish(in the Bible it says wipe out, but the Canaanites are still there.) the Canaanites it was judgement for the wickedness they did.(Human sacrifices and such.) I really suggest for you to read it, for some it's a mythical book, for some "great stories there bro." This was an excellent ambush, yes they didn't hold the cross roads but they effectively killed around more than half of the SS troops they were fighting, taking out the two trucks and halftrack that were with them reducing their mobility.
It terms of storage, there’s so much ammo you can have inside the tank. There’s 5 men, the main gun ammo, grenades, and the men ground ammo. You have to decide what you want the men to easily access.
Idk man one cookoff inside the tank and the entire main cast is turned into bloody pulps. Having some ammo outside the tank doesn't seem like a terrible idea.

Script, but realistic reason is probably limited room. You keep the most casualty producing weapon in the fight first, which would be the main gun first. My biggest issue is you are in a fucking coffin anyway, lock the god damn hatches
I would say maybe to give off the impression that the crew is dead, but it could also be assumed that it was scavenged, I guess they didnt want to take that chance but idk

Anyway, know that you are loved, and cared about.
Aw man! I long to see the day where TC plug themselves in the tank (matrix style) and gained aerial 360 degree view of his tank much like WOT perspective. Advanced Autoloading systems. Just you and the driver. SKIMS advanced traction system, 130mm gun, terro-compousite armour system

The Director just balanced the teams.
Or they accidentally left it in the truck and it blew up which totally makes sense right? Why not hand carry your anti-tank weapons incase of an emergency where you can just rest your shoulders, arms and back a little more by putting it in the truck.
the german dude said it was limited u think they'll use 20 panzerfaust for one tank
"Target is a single disabled tank that's completely stationary." "Well, I'm at a loss here. I suppose we'll try a few frontal assaults with our light firearms and go from there."
@@mopr4388 yeah just let the tank mow down our forces instead because ammo is more important than our soldiers
Also why didn’t they open fire on the Germans while they were clustered together, instead letting them scatter?
In ww2 Field manuals, they usually instead use explosives.

yeah that was not tactically sound at all. they should have fired from a distance and saved the close range charges for... if they ever get close enough

Oh well...

I cried when I saw Pitt and his squad die one by one. It’s hard to see people dying in warfare.
I cried when I saw how horribly incompetent they made the Germans look. It's hard to see a movie based on real events portray the events in the most unrealistic way possible.
@@wulfheort8021 yeah. You were there.
@@NikaljeHarshal What are you talking about?
@@wulfheort8021quit calling war movies unrealistic if you don’t know what it’s like. You weren’t there fighting for your life so stfu and just enjoy the movie or don’t watch it
Love how Norman goes from
"I can't kill him, its not right" to
"YEAH, YOU BETTER FUCKING RUN"
War sure changes a man's way of thinking
2:36 I know there is a lot of controversy around this scene, but I believe there is a cut here. It clearly goes from evening to night.
3:50 Wait why did you not bring the ammo inside? You had prep time! You were setting a trap!
Maybe they don't have enough space to put the ammo inside on their tank
The Germans would have lost to Denmark in 1940 fighting like that.
Something so cool about hearing "YOU'RE CLEAR! FIRE! ON THE WAY!" *BOOM*
It’s “on the way”
It’s “one away”

I’m jealous of all that ammo!!!
Be nice to have it back, eh !
I got plenty 🤑 still buying it about every month! I shot half a box of .22 today just for fun! You boys living in the wrong place!

Honestly aside from most of the crew dying except Norman in this ambush attempt. This was an excellent ambush, yes they didn't hold the cross roads but they effectively killed around more than half of the SS troops they were fighting, taking out the two trucks and halftrack that were with them reducing their mobility.
The halftrack managed to survive
It terms of storage, there’s so much ammo you can have inside the tank. There’s 5 men, the main gun ammo, grenades, and the men ground ammo. You have to decide what you want the men to easily access.
Idk man one cookoff inside the tank and the entire main cast is turned into bloody pulps. Having some ammo outside the tank doesn't seem like a terrible idea.
Really intense scene... just wondered why they didn’t bring the ammunition inside before setting the trap.
I'd love to see a movie about the real fury aka Frey Bentos. It's a canned meat product. Gotta love the Brits sense of humor.
Same of the italian division Ariete which was completely destroyed at el Alamein fighting to the last , there Is One film but It talks Only about the soldiers not the tanks
Whenever I am not in a confident mood to do something difficult.i watch this movie and the face of bradpit is always in the mind . It may be a story but how many people did this kind of jobs in a wartime when they moved forward confidently without knowing the condition upfront.
god john bernthal is outdoing everyone else in all these clips
He’s a great actor, to the point I immediately don’t like his characters most of the time because he often plays the bad guy so well. His (acting) behavior in the apartment with the German girls and the eggs in this movie haunts me.
@@mdbizzl he redeems himself when he and Norman go into the house (where the tank breaks down) and he apologised for what happened. I like that scene
Honestly there are all very good in this movie , they all seem to have played off each other’s characters so damn well that if you watch this movie in your private home theater room and turn the volume you are literally in the movie with them , that’s why I like this movie so , from Michael penas drinking habit to ease his pain to Shia Le Baouf faith in god , brad pitts ruthlessness towards the nazi , John bernthals grease dirty mechanics attitude , they all just seemed to have a seamless connection with one another in this which is why it just works so damn well .
@@mdbizzl ever since he was Shane I immediately dislike his character until proven other wise, he is really good

such an EPIC MOVIE...great CAST...but if you KNEW an attack was coming..why leave AMMO outsisde of the TANK...lol
yeah for real!
This movie is filled with plot holes and plot armor but still one of my favorite movies
Right... 😂
Pvt: "Hey Boss, should we reach out with our superior range and firepower and take out the enemy while they're bunched up?"
Boss: "No, no, let them get real nice and close. Let them get around our flanks and rear, even right on top of the tank, why not? Then shoot the first guy with your PDW. Only then, once we've given away the game, then start using the main gun and machine guns."
