Good evening Van's. Could that mantel, be mounted on 2x4s. Looking to add a mantel as a focal point, but only have a regular wall (2x4 drywall) how heavy is a piece like that... Beautiful work sir...
Another option is a “box mantle” it’s 5 pieces , top, front, bottom and sides all 45 degree edges and glued & nailed. It makes the mantle much lighter. This gets mounted on a French cleat.

Yes . Make sure the lag bolts hit dead center on the stud. Also I’d only feel safe with3 or more lags....
