I have loved this song since this episode was originally broadcast. I hollered out loud the first time I ever heard it anywhere else. Redd Foxx did so much on S&S to preserve old songs and showcase obscure comics he knew. And those are often the most memorable bits-the songs and the guest appearances by Dap Sugar Willie, Cha Cha Hogan, Slappey White, Cardella DeMilo and many more. Sanford and Son is a treasure in many ways.
I've commented this sentiment myself. The songs really stood out & stayed with me. Im hoping for a fan documentary about all of the songs that they performed & the ppl that made guest appearances on the show. I wonder if there is anybody still alive that actually knew 'Wham' irl.
Here's what I know about the song. It's called "Wham (Rebop-Boom-Baam)" and it was recorded in 1939 by the great pianist Teddy Wilson, one of the most important pianists of the 20th century. He famously made history playing with the likes of Benny Goodman, Billie Holiday, Lester Young, Lena Horne and many others. I don't know if his recording of this song was the first, but he co-wrote it, so chances are it was. You can hear it here on youtube. The singer is also the drummer, J.C. Heard: ruclips.net/video/aL4qE7KYKc0/видео.html They changed the order of the lyrics a little bit in this scene, but the lyrics on the original record are: _[Verse]_ Wham Rebop-Boom-Baam I can swing and I can jam Wham Rebop-Boom-Baam I'm a killa dilla, yes I am Wham Rebop-Boom-Baam When you learn it you'll be proud Wham Rebop-Boom-Baam Join the crowd and swing out loud _[Bridge]_ Some folks say swing won't stay And it's stylin' out But I can prove that it's in the groove And they don't know what they're talkin' about _[Verse]_ Wham Rebop-Boom-Baam It's easy to do like a Suzie Q Wham Rebop-Boom-Baam If I can do it you can too
I heard the original version myself. Is there a hip hop version? I once heard it on the radio but the DJ cut it off after 3 seconds. I called the radio station to ask him to play it again but he pretended it off like it never happened.

They changed the order of the lyrics a little bit in this scene, but the lyrics on the original record are:
_[Verse]_
Wham Rebop-Boom-Baam
I can swing and I can jam
Wham Rebop-Boom-Baam
I'm a killa dilla, yes I am
Wham Rebop-Boom-Baam
When you learn it you'll be proud
Wham Rebop-Boom-Baam
Join the crowd and swing out loud
_[Bridge]_
Some folks say swing won't stay
And it's stylin' out
But I can prove that it's in the groove
And they don't know what they're talkin' about
_[Verse]_
Wham Rebop-Boom-Baam
It's easy to do like a Suzie Q
Wham Rebop-Boom-Baam
If I can do it you can too
