I like to sauté the vegetables first in a little butter before adding stock and seasoning, when cooked I use a hand blender. Just as quick and no money spent on another gadget. x
I use the greens of the leeks, theyre lovely. I think they add a bit of colour too. I use a lot of leeks in chicken bacon and leek pie, in acheesy sauce, its lovely.
I still listen to it every now and again, I like Windsor Davies' husky voice! I always thought he was Welsh, but apparently he comes from Canning Town on the outskirts of London!
A great video. I love the soup maker. It’s hard to be a “ soup” person when the house members all want their own dietary choices, I love soup and it’s hard to run this restaurant when so many meals need to be catered. I’d love to must set it and forget it while making the other food required. I’d love just soup all winter.
Yum I love soup and the consistency is just perfect. I have a soup maker too which I should use more often. Although I don't like the taste of pumpkin per se it makes a lovely texture for soup. I add white potato, sweet potato. carrot, stock cubes, curry powder and water. Perfect!
A Welshman and his leeks, singing oldtimey songs in a beautiful bass voice is just what I needed today! Thanks Sean, it's going to be a relaxing, self care sort of day . I might even make some soup myself.
Why don’t you use the tops of the leeks as that is the best bit for soup l cut all the leeks up that I buy and parsley and frezze them so when I want chicken soup I have the things at hand great for the winter 🐝🧵🐝
Sean, why don't you use the green leaves from your leeks, we. Were brought up to use them as you would the stems, they are just as tasty. Hope your shed roof arrives very soon.
I've started growing perennial leeks. One variety is called Delft I believe. You cut them at ground level and they come back pretty rapidly. Plant once, harvest forever - Bootiful 😉 Also doing "Potato onions" and a Korean bush celery, both perennials. Ultimate lazy gardening that is 😁
My first aim as a teenager; to have my own property. A knife is a basic, plus at least a couple of buckets of water and an old kitchen stainless steel sink bench.
Morning, what a blowey one that. If you're their today, put your ladders on shed. Ladders don't blow away. Checked the live camera and couldn't read thermometer as light reflection and what looked like snow. That tar tea 😂
Hi Sean. I think you did exactly the right thing re the festive tea, you did well to last that long with it I thought - well at least you ended it on a good note with Earl Grey. Wow your Leaks have done well! Funnily enough I meant to say last time but forgot, Leak and Potato soup as a suggestion - that is one of my faves too! Your soup maker gadget looked really good, if a little on the noisy side! 😅 Oh I like your latest plants from One Click, I might have to get that Hellebore that looked so pretty! I've not bought much recently plant wise, with the weather as it is 49mph gusty winds this morn! Brrr I thought we were going to take off at one point! 😅 Looking forward to tomorrow"s installment. 🙂 Ps: lovely singing as always!
I love leek and potato soup, to be honest I just like soup really! I make it without the aid of gadgets - well a knife and a pot and a wooden spoon - but however and whatever works for the maker is fine by me! 😁❤
Those soup makers are great. Love the Windsor Davies "Whispering Grass" , Just seen a visitor on the Homestead Mr Squirrel was having a good look around.
Well, if I may say Sean think putting the tea calendar in the bin was a good choice lol. The soup looked so delicious as well. Having a sing-song was fun we joined in 😊 and having followed @Darren John for 4 years now we were pleasantly surprised you board following him on his new life in Thailand. Another lovely Vlog. Thank you, Sean. ❤ J&J
Sean, it was sad to see all the tree damage on the mountain but it's part of nature's way. By the way, are the cats adjusting to your being home? Can you tell if they missed you? Our weather here in Arkansas, USA has warmed up. It was almost 60 deg. yesterday. (F) Not at all like Christmas! It rained for three days! I don't decorate or do anything special for the holiday. It's just my dog and myself. We'll watch television or walk outside.
Thank u for your videos Sean , i love following them especially when your out and about , have u thought of a trip to St Fagans ? i’m sure your followers would love it , seeing how our family’s lived through the ages , it’s been a while since i was last there , my old bones not up to it any more , it’s a lovely day out and it’s free , i first went there as a school girl 60odd years ago , im from Blackwood not so far from u , thank u Sue ❤
Great minds think alike! I, too, will be doing leek and potato soup...then later this week some cawl (probably misspelled that but I think it sends the message). I have never grown leeks but at the price of them at the grocery I've decided to give it a go! Got them on my next season seed order. 😊
You’re lucky you live in a civilized place. We have a trail cam set up and every morning we can’t believe the wildlife that has come. We have bobcats, javelina, which are like wild, hogs, raccoons, bunnies, and kotamundi. We couldn’t figure out why all of my tomatoes have bite them and put the camera in and found that every evening the raccoons were coming in and stealing my tomatoes. I need to find a way to put an end that one as they took one bite out of everything so I had nothing to harvest. I live in the desert of Arizona….. not that civilized.
I was watching live steam last night as could not sleep as it was windy and rain last night here in sw scotland. Was going to say how are your friends getting on in sw scotland where they bought a house in a tree felling area sounds like it will be chainsaws and hgv,s most of the day just think of all those loose branches flying around we have trees here lots of twigs and branches around.enjoyed the live steam and today's video I have the same problem with sponge fingers from local bakery 5 in a pack they don't last long but go well with cup of tea the forecast says Thursday and Sunday supposed to be ok.
Hi Sean. Good idea to get away from the smoke. During Australia's Black Summer of 2020, we had to escape three times through flames and take refuge at a University campus with our rescue cats. For over a week, we couldn't see the sky, and we were breathing in ash and debris if we had to go out. I ended up on steroids, so smoke is really dangerous. I am so over hot, dry, burnt, snake infested Australia. I have never belonged. My ancestors are from Scotland, Ireland, England, and Wales. I wish I could be there. It's where I belong, but my daughter is fighting cancer, so I can't leave. I live vicariously through your videos. Blessing from Australia to you and the cats.🐈⬛️🐈⬛️
Love yr post & wish your daughter all the best & a 2025 Recovery. XX. I am a Kiwi, in 1998 I went to Sydney, I was offered an amazing Int'l Banking Job with mega pay. There was a massive bush fire that year & flames were flying from the Blue Mountains all the way to Castle Hill & Parramatta. I was putting out the flames on the roof, the bushes that would ignite or instaneously combust. I thought we were going to be cooked then. I dumped the bank job & ran. I immigrated to my mothers homeland & I have been in the UK since 1998. The weather is crap but the people are fantastic, not only in Wales, but Scotland, Yorkshire to Cornwall. It has its bad points but everywhere does. I would rather have water than be cooked. Wishing your daughters recovery & hope one day you can return.
I just knew that advent tea calendar was destined for the bin before Christmas eve . please don't give the remaining tea bags to your guests unless you want your Christmas card list shortened next year.
Sean when I bake potatoes, I eat the skins.Have you ever tried stuffed Potato skins, it's a little sour cream and chives A little bacon bits crumbled up on top delicioso.😊
Good evening Sean At least your soup maker didn't do a jig round the kitchen like your processor/juicer from the London house did in one of your shorts! 😂🤣 You were getting a bit steamy Sean! Nice that your homegrown leeks tasted dare i say it..... Pukka! Take care Sean 💜
I was surprised you cut off all the leeks leaves, we only cut off the root end, but what do we know in Australia? I only leave the tea bag in boiling water for two minutes maximum, otherwise it’ll taste bitter, unless it’s herbal ofcourse.

Julia Child called it Potage soup--a favorite for her

We eat leeks almost everyday and use most of the green leaf too.
Me too, lots of flavour in the green part of the leek. 😊
Yep, I use as much as I can from any vegetable. Got to get your money's worth too😀 I would have been eating bits as I was slicing it too😋😀
@Angel-002 me too. Always snacking on the veggies when I'm prepping them
Agreed on leek tops. I hate wasting even a smidgen if what I grow - after all the work and the wait 😉
Great on the soup. Nothing like homemade soup and fresh baked, buttery bread❤️⛄😌
Butternut & carrot with green beans is a good winter soup.
who remembers Windsor Davies and Don Estelle's marvellous rendition of Whispering Grass back in the 1970s (I think - could have been early 80s) 🙂
Yes I remember the little guy singing most of the song
They were both in Ain't half hot Mom !
Yes, and now I've got Whispering Grass as an earworm! 🤣🪱
Remember it well

Great vid Sean see you tomorrow .
You could have left those teas in Tenerife (by mistake!!) when you did your packing.
You could gather the rain off the shed roof into a water-butt, set up on a base & have an old bowl or bucket for washing veg'
Love a soup maker, you don't need to pre-boil the water, it does that when making the soup for you.
