    True tejano is shrinking .San Anto self proclaimed capitol of Tejano I beg to differ my Raza being from the valley .no longer has a mainstream radio station dedicated to tejano. While the valley still does.AJ,s new groove got it going on his idea of sharing the spotlight is right on bring new old classic tejano to the mainstream.

    Hats off to AJ and the show he puts on. He has truly invested in himself to give the audience his best. In my opinion i do believe today's struggle for the artist in the industry is the same as in the past with not enough radio stations do too media giants taking up radio wave frequencies and millions of dollars in licensing to obtain a station. There will always be a tejano music industry regardless of radio but the financial success of the artist depends on the amount of listeners reached thru public air waves. If the tune is catchy and played over and over you will remember it and chances are will be interested in the artist regardless if it was a hit or not. Hang in there AJ and thanks James for the media platform.

    Not being a hater and for the record I listen to all genres of music and AJ’s music is not palatable. He claims to be humble, but curses, thanks God, and disses the Tejano artists with proven records! 🤔 To each their own, but he comes off as arrogant. Como si fuera la gran caca. I can look past the arrogance of an artist when their material is unique and palatable to the soul. His music doesn’t make me want to get crunk and lit.
    This is a cycle that management, marketers and producers in the music industry has produced. Every 10 years the artists are recycled. Al rato (2027) vas estar en las sidelines con los Tex Mex artists and some other kid will be talking to James about AJ was over pushing the envelope and didn’t focus on the details of Tejano music and not focusing on the template set by the original Tejano artist. It’s a never ending discussion.
    My advice to AJ and any up and coming artist is to do their own thing and don’t bring anyone’s career or opinions into it. Just do your own thing and be the trend setter in your own without taking swipes at previous artists that reigned the stages and airwaves. AJ make note that Ram, Gary Hobbs, La Mafia, Elida y A, HTB and little Joe are still out performing and you could share the stage with them. Keep it hush hush brah! You do, you. Show me and the other critics wrong. Stay blessed, AJ.

    • @Rocknrolljamesband
      @Rocknrolljamesband  5 лет назад +5

      Notarivs Anonymvs if in your opinion it’s not palatable then why is he having success doing it? He has quite the following in many states not just Texas. Also I don’t see his opinion as dissing anyone as much as being against the dissing and becoming more united to help the Tejano scene make somewhat of a resurgence from where it’s been lately. On another note I like the realness and transparency he brings. What you see is what you get. I like that. I am the same way. No candy coating.

    Si bien lo Tejano cada día es menos, el pedo es que esta nueva oleada de "Tejano" quiere cambiar la Onda a su estilo, AJ es uno de ellos, Zavala es otro y Stefania Montiel. A los que disfrutamos de lo Conjunto y Tejano no compartimos con ese estilo que quieren manejar ellos. AJ tiene muy buenas rolas Tejanas con la esencia vieja, sin duda, pero quizás es todo ese sonidero alternativo lo que lo mantiene alejado de ser llamativo en Monterrey.

    All genres of music do change somewhat with time ,its called evolution of music....but every genre has ITS AUDIENCE...tejano music has its audience, just like country ,hip hop, rock,etc....in life there is what we called respect to the ones who have paid their dues and and set a road for others than are coming up with Different Ideas whether its musically or any other aspect....social media is the only extra push that many bands or artists have now that old school artists never really had....its not right for an artist to judge or say who or what style of music is outdated or no longer as popular now like back in time....Some artists need or choose a style towards "PUTTING ON A SHOW".lights, dancing, smoke ,etc....thats how big rockbands and top notch artists go about their crowds that attend big concerts...old just depended on their talent and the beauty of the MUSIC doing all the talking for their audiences..My parents at 70 years could care less bout how many speakers or lights or if u did cartwheels while playing your instrument...they love old school....couples that dance for enjoyment love old school....have to respect that. BOTTOM LINE....

Even if his music sounds like it's from another country, it's ok. He is making money on all sides of the spectrum. Tejano, cojunto, and international etc.etc. Folks gotta support your Raza no matter what style of music they play. @@efrainbeltran4678 I don't think AJ is trying to be a conjunto musico nor change it. (No money in it) No offence, Cojunto music is a very simple style of music to learn and play. If you're in a cojunto band that's the only style you play all night for the most part. For me, I like it, but I also like Joe Posada, Mazz, Jay Perez, etc.etc. All I know is AJ found his own music niche, and he is his own boss making all his own money. People envy younger musicos who make it big time, because they didn't make it, or they are still playing that same style of music, not trying to evolve as a musician. (Boxed into one style). Then they don't wanna hire him cause he will take over the show. They know that. It's like a regular local band opening up for the headliner. They are not going to make the opening band sound just as good as the headliner. In fact I've been to lots of gigs where they make the really good local bands sound like crap. Why? That's not cool. I will continue to support all spanish genres of music. Raza!

    Man I moved to Nashville, Tennessee from Fresno, Texas (Fort Bend County) in late 2006. When iHeart radio came out in app format on smart phones the first thing I did was look for my old Tejano and Texas radio stations. I had KSAB and 107.5 Tejano and Estéreo Latino from Houston. Honestly Tejano stations and artists are just coming out with that Cumbia/Tribal sounding trash shitt and AJ Castillo is one of the biggest pushers of this shitt. I can’t stand that cumbia tribal shitt. But whatever.....

  • @Ahmad-sg2yu

    I guess it changed from the days off Pio Treviño, Flaco Jimenez, Agustin Ramirez and Tony De La Rosa in the 70's to the electric sound of the 80's with Mazz, Ram Herrera, La Sombra etc. Then again in the 90's with a more modern sound like Selena and Emilio but I don't think it can be changed anymore...I like it the way it is.
    Rap changed to mumble rap, rock changed to screamo and country turned all poppy. Some things don't turn out better just because you changed it. I'll forever love Tejano and hope my kids do to one day.

    I think tejano music is not death just record labels are not interested neither promoters are, sponsors are not interested like they were in the 90's, tejano artists have not any fresh ideas just they are redoing biggest hits of latin artists for example Jesse Turner made Despacito of Luis Fonsi, Shelly Lares made Devuelveme el corazon of Sebastían Yatra. People wants new music, not covers. In México tejano music is not played like in the 90's was. Barely you can hear in the radio stations songs like Como la flor and Bidi bidi bom bom of Selena and Como le hare of Emilio. If some people listen tejano music another ask "why are you listening that? That sounds pretty old" sadly that is the reality of tejano music!

    First off, Rock, I love the PVT show and the different interviews you bring us is greatly appreciated.
    Now listen,
    I don't mean to come off like a hard ass but I've tried listening to this guys music and quite frankly, it's nauseating. I'm not dismissing his "style" but Tejano music has it' own original flare that is unique in and of itself. To hear this guy say that "Everybody thinks their a star" he needs to take a look in the mirror. Part of what happened to La Onda Tejana has nothing to do with changing the style but more to do with technology making it easier for people to "network", record themselves, shoot a video, upload it etc. then think their as good as our old schoolers. Gone are the days of busting your ass, getting paid peanuts to do shows and sleeping in a van. This young generation of today, although they say and think otherwise, really do think they have more talent than the original "old schoolers". Back then you needed to sign with a record label, back then you had to take the last minute gig. Pete Astudillo did wonders with the vocals for quite a few artist and for that I am eternally grateful but people with that gift aren't easy to come by. Most of what I hear of these new up and coming artist is literally junk. With the exception of a few artist here and there, I will gladly hold on to my old school stars and dance the night away to a DJ playing those sounds then to spend money watching this guy. Showboating is not tejano, Lights and all that pizazz don't make you tejano, Being able to blend a melody with great lyrics that captures ones heart and soul and makes them forget about everything else, well that is the recipe for success! When I hear that type of song, everyone wants to dance. Don't believe me, go to one of this guys shows. Everyone is in front with a cell phone but nobody is really dancing, but at the intermission, DJ plays a David Lee Garza or MAZZ mix and olvidate, all the gordies are on the dance floor shaking the manteca! Asustame 1 time rock!

      I hear you guys , I was the same way until I went to San Antonio on vacation and saw him live and saw the young people and full venue, I’m an 80s man who witnessed just how big tejano was and witnessed how it died or actually not died but lessened in popularity big time, here’s an example I went to Naples Florida to see Gary Hobbs and Stephanie montiel all of 25 people were there and that’s including security and bartenders and it sucked to see that, then aj Castillo came a little after and packed the place capacity which only siggno could do , I feel you his music isn’t appealing to big time tejano heads like us who witnessed how big tejano music was, but this evolution with of music fusioned with accordion sound and horns is a mash up and it inspired jr Ramos who is more traditional and could be a new player in the scene that’s what I meant by he is the future, cuz honestly I personally think tejano is gone for good and will never come back unless someone becomes mainstream and opens doors that have been shut in their faces
