I must give it to you, I find your topics really refreshing. I really enjoy the fact that they're not always exclusively about games themselves. keep doing what you're doing.
I can relate to this! When I first started dating my wife, she came to visit me at my apartment. I nervously told her I needed to show her something. She was very relieved to see my 500+ board game collection. She was afraid it was a massive pornography collection or something. We still laugh about this...she still rarely plays board games but she is a keeper as my collection has grown to over 1000.
I married my husband many years before I got into the board game hobby. We celebrated 40 years together, but over the years I’ve learned I need to find other people to do most of my gaming with. I’ve bought many games hoping he would like them, and mostly they didn’t land well. At this point I have a monthly game group, I play certain games with my daughter( she likes coop narrative driven games) and do lots of soloing. And it’s all good.
I totally agree! My now wife hadn’t played any games when we started not even classic games and standard card games. She considers beating me a win even if she’s not in first place! It’s been great to see her evolve and glad I’m not the only one with the same story
Hey Shane, this is such a sweet story, so glad you and Amy are having a lot of fun making memories. My hubby is not a gamer, but over the years there are some he definitely enjoys more. It's not his favourite hobby, but it's fun when he will sit and with me.❤
Really love this Content Shane. You are doing a really good job of really makinghg extremely relatable content. My experience has been that one of my friends who has been the person who I play most of my board games with. And the person I am dating now we've only really been dating for about maybe 6 months. She isn't a super avid board gamer but she comes to board game nights pretty regularly and did so even before we started dating. Which is great. I enjoy playing simple to medium weight games with her and she is really smart 🤓. My previous girlfriend was much less enthusiastic. Happy as to where i am now
I'm a gamer in a family of nots. At Christmas I presented a fun Christmas theme roll and write, and we all had a great time playing it I had hope that would be the start of maybe a few more games played together.....? Alas, no deal, they are back to being boring, I'm back to my solo games 😁
I love your comment at (5:46): "Hey do you want to play a board game? And I'm (pfft) it's me! Of course I want to play a board game, yeah. I'd love to play a board game"
My partner does play board games, but he is rather on the other end of the minimalist - collector scale than I am. I love my collection - he doesn't and keeps urging me to cull it down drastically. So dating someone who has the same hobby isn't necessarily easier either...
Most of my partners have been non-gamers and I have introduced them to the hobby. I try to introduce them to games based on interests and their gaming level. If they enjoy them, I have them try other games. I respect if gaming isn't their vibe.
I consider myself a regularnie gamer, I tend to play a few times a month (cant do more due to how life works ;p), have my collection, watch videos etc. Now, when I hear a collection of 500 games or more i woupd react like this girl did! Wtf why would you have more thsn a 100 games at a time in your house, when do you have the time to play all of them? I feel like even if I could play a game a day, anything more than a hundred gsmes would feel like a bit much... idk i want to play the games I love more often than 1 a year
My wife admires board games - they're not video games! - and we've had some really great times with our 10-year-old son. We had a spectacular game of Pandemic recently and The Crew is definitely a winner. Still, she doesn't love them the way I do and I'm not sure she ever will. I'm hoping it will 'click' some day soon. Until then, that's what the boy is for 😁
I can relate with Amy... YOU are the target to beat, Game Commander 😜 My other half would play if I ask him, but not all day boardgaming and DEFINITELY not more than 2 days in a row 😝👎🏽 Soo, I've been choosing board game themes that he would be interested in, like Fallout, The Witcher, TMNT, and Game of Thrones - anything videogame related. Unfortunately, they're medium to heavy games, so 1 "learning" game play a day is all I can fish out of him 😅👎🏽👎🏽

Appreciate it!

Congrats on 40 years!
You're a lucky man! My wife HATES board games. Thank goodness that's her only flaw. 😂
That I am!
