Sebastian wrote about Kathryn in his diary and he describes how he noticed that while Kathryn looks very beautiful, she is unbelievably heartless and lacks a conscience - whereas Sebastian still had a conscience, despite being evil himself.
What they did to Cecile will never sit well with me not only because of age but the fact that people actually do things like this because they have ruined themselves are missing marbles and need to be examined
Thank god you posted this, Kathryn deserves more attention even though she is listed as the ultimate mean girl, she was also the original Blair Waldorf before Upper East Side teen dramas were a thing (also, her outfits were fire even though it's a small amount)>
Kathryn Merteuil walked so that Blair Waldorf could run! 😂 Just found this channel on my recommended page and fell into a black hole watching your videos! Well-thoroughly researched, entertaining, and aesthetically pleasing content-love it 🥰
The line she said that always stuck out to me was "I'm the Marcia fucking Brady of the Upper East Side, and sometimes I want to kill myself". She was a deeply troubled person, and all that scheming couldn't fill the void.
"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned". The explanation of this is a woman who has been rejected by a man can be ferociously angry and vindictive. When Sebastian fell in love with Annette, Kathryn knew his perverse love for her was over. That meant her lifetime plans in manipulating and controlling Sebastian as they would both eventually run the Valmont Empire and the Upper East Side of NYC, were over. She had always thought that while both would get married to obviously other people, she believed that both their marriages would be for the purposes of transactional conveniences. She really thought that their perverse and incestuous love for each other would bond them for life. Obviously Sebastian's falling in love with Annette changed all that. When Kathryn was spurned by Sebastian, she just had to get revenge against him. He sent Ronald, without Ronald even knowing, to violently brawl against Sebastian. While obviously Kathryn had no idea that the altercation would lead to Sebastian's death, she certainly expressed no remorse over his death. Kathryn wanted Sebastian to be a degenerate. She knew that his true love for Annette changed all that. In lieu of that, Sebastian would no longer find Kathryn's degeneracy to be appealing. Kathryn finally acknowledged this by saying "Good Bye Sebastian" well after he had left her bedroom and had closed her door. She was saying good bye to the old Sebastian she earlier was convinced that she could control for a lifetime. She really wanted to make Sebastian pay for scorning and spurning her. His change for the better in terms of morals was what spurned Kathryn.
I'm glad you did this video because her character was not to be glamorized and I've seen some videos with people excusing her behavior and we all know why... Kathryn didn't meet the right one
It’s like the same thing with Joe from “You”, now Penn may be fine, but his character is horrible! (although he has some redeeming qualities unlike Kathryn) he is not a character to be glamorized
People who like this character are not to be trusted idc what excuses they try to make for her, her being a teenager is NOT an excuse at all, idk where some people come from where it's acceptable for this sort of behavior, it's not normal teen stuff. she's like those people who come from money and their kids are bullies, do eff'd up things and get away with it even in the "justice" system because of their privilege. she had not one redeeming quality NOT ONE
I just rewatched this movie, and the fact that Kathryn was vindictive towards Cecilie over an ex boyfriend who was a literal Nazi was what made me hate her. Among other things. Like... how are we gonna just disregard that information? It was the 90s, so I guess that's why it wasn't that big a deal.
Kathryn is based on la Marquise de Merteuil in Les Liaisons Dangereuses a French novel written in 1792. There are 3 American adaptations (including cruel Intentions) 4 French 1 Korean and 1 Chinese of the novel. Seek them out and read the novel if you love this character and film. Oh there are 2 stage plays as well
1:45 About that. I haven’t seen this movie in decades , but how did Cecile NOT know Kathryn was her boyfriend’s ex?? She was the most popular girl at their school. How did that not reach Cecile like five seconds after she and this dude hooked up?
Cecile was a freshman she was going into HS that year which is why her mother wanted Kathryn to "guide" her, Kathryn was 17 and Cecile was 14. Regardless though of how popular she was, people break up all the time no one has ownership over people that girl was un h!ng3d
This may be a movie but there are actually people out there like this and make every excuse for why they are the way they are , I even side eye people who love her character because there is nothing outside of her clothing to love. she was a pr3d@+or!
This is the truth! unfortunately some women get away with that type of behavior and usually tend to sit back and let others do their dirty work for them
I love how the 90s was able to take books and movies from the old days and update them but still connect them to the past like this movie for instance was based on the book dangerous liaisons, Romeo and Juliet,o, Hamlet, and amid summers night dream also
She played villain Kendall Hart on AMC and complicated Sydney Rutledge on Swan's Crossing before Buffy. Cordelia was closer to those characters in both looks and attitude.
There was a girl at my job like this a few years ago who lied on this guy and said he was h/ /\ssing her and HR and everything was involved and it was a major invstgation come to find out SHE was the one h/ /\ssing him and he wasn't interested in her at all. thank God he kept all of his receipts of her pratically st/\lk ing him on IG, but she was one of those people like you said couldn't handle not getting theire way and rejection and I believe sometimes women react to rejection worse than some men.
What's so crazy is that it's even worse with people who have money and are attractive it's like people can't comprehend that they can be evil and will make all kinds of excuses for them
Man, She makes Regina George look like a Saint.

God*
Kathryn was not all there and the fact that she saw no wrong in any of her behavior is scary
Very scary. there was just no limit to what she did and she refused to take any accountability

You are right I didn't realize that 🤔
8:49 Still gushing over her grey sheer top over that lace bra and metallic leather skirt combo, it's the best outfit of Kathryn in IMO 🥰
This outfit and her picnic outfit with Cecile are just 🤌🏽 *chefs kiss*

Girlllll she was my favorite mean girl but she was so wicked and manipulative 😩😩😩😭😍😍

I can understand why Sarah auditioned for Cordelia before Buffy, she's actually quite good at being mean
She played villain Kendall Hart on AMC and complicated Sydney Rutledge on Swan's Crossing before Buffy. Cordelia was closer to those characters in both looks and attitude.
Happy Women's History Month and International Women's Day ♀️
👩🏽
I hope you do a style of Monica the singer she has always dressed fashionable
0:41 well duh she like a anoraxic Abby from Dance Moms (and I mean the character)
Power ranger (yellow,2nd )girl style was awesome also
They were 17 in the movie
Cecile was younger than them in the movie she’s 14. she’s just entering high school as a freshman

Yes
No
Sarah Michelle Geller waa brilliant as Kathryn at that point she had already played a bad girl she was the original kendall hart on all my children
I LOVE this movie. Omg I had the biggest crush on Ryan Phillipe (who didn't). This movie is just so naughty, defintely was an awakening 😅🥵
